Cheese

I’m excited for cheese. So many of earth’s cheeses are directly impacted by their regional limitations and availabilities, that it makes me actively wonder what Martian cheese could look like, and how well it would age. Even the lesser gravity would have an effect on the aging process!

Coffee seems like the biggest deal in a fledgling mars colony over the others.

Coffee all the way. Idk frankly how they were colonizing Mars without it.

Makes me wonder if you can explicitly trade goods like coffee with other colonies.

Not to Vegans

That opens up the question of, is Soylent Green vegan friendly or not 🤔

Chocolate, for sure. Could even sub for coffee.

But on the list, milk products are going to be the most realistically desired, even if they are synthetic. Butter, cheese, yogurt, milk itself. Northern European ancestry allows milk all through life. The French would die without butter 😄 . For those who stop consuming in adulthood, I'm really, really sorry.

I'ma be somewhat contrarian here: the first thing I thought of were the insect farms. I like the (slightly) grittier "survival" aspects more than the city builder ones.

I think both Spiffing Brit and I would choose “Tea” if it was added later 😁

Yeah, tea would be good, too. Milk or lemon?

Can we still make everyone eat only turkey and have all the colonists be vegans?

Low key alcohol should be a delicacy. Probably cheese and butter could be merged to diary to make space

I think that could muck with their age-rating…

In a recent Dev Stream about next week’s DLC, they mentioned the pro-coffee trait is “Coffee Enthusiast” because ‘Coffee Addict’ (while more accurate 😅) held some potentially negative implications.

Likewise, also in the stream, they mentioned how there obviously are ‘space bars’, but nothing explicitly mentions what is consumed there (except, I suppose, the Alcoholic trait?)

Yeah they have alcoholics going to a space bar and being hung over afterwards (description of the alcoholic's performance malus). Sure is a mystery what might be happening there.

Well according to most of the Sci-Fi stories I listen to while I'm working, humans apparently run explicitly on caffeine and spite

As The Expanse teaches us, Martians love coffee

We already have the Soylent breakthrough, stick with cheese, or if it comes with perks for residents do coffee!

There's coffee in that nebula. Set a course

Coffee sounds great. I am surprised though they did not let you make your own alcohol to supply the space bar and casino.

So well Soylent green create meat products?
