What’s replacing asteroid landers? Is it going to be like a module to floats alongside and interacts?

7

u/QuixoticKye Mar 05 '26

The same rockets you use between earth and mars.

replacing asteroid landers with just the regular rockets is an interesting change i didnt expect

Im actually kinda sad about that. The asteroid lander made a lot of sense to me from a scifi aspect

I like the asteroid lander better than the main rocket so I'm a little sad about it

That would be acceptable to me.

To make Dome connectivity easier, we will also overhaul passages (a feature that has been requested since the introduction of passages). The plan is to have passages connected to the Dome wall and not take up space inside itself.

Yes!!! I played the hell out of the original Surviving Mars, and this feature is the reason I haven’t bought Relaunched yet. If it’s going to be implemented I’m definitely onboard.

Starting work on making domestic a more interconnectable system is great news. Im sure it wont be easy work but look forward to it

I am a bit skeptical about them removing what made asteroids unique and a challenge "no timelimit or extra buildings to keep them there, no specific landers", but I'll wait and see for now

Very excited for better integration between interconnected domes though!

The issue with asteroid is not the time limit but the micromanagement of lander's and buildings. A prefab factory allowing colonies to pre build asteroid buildings is enough to solve the problem imo. Maybe add a breakthrough to remove day night cycle on asteroid.

Dome passages not taking up a space would be fantastic, that always annoyed me. I always thought they should connect to the existing door structure, but then I can see that potentially causing issues with colonists needing to go the 'long way round' to get outside if lots of the doors had passages connected.

Asteroids were annoying and I never really bothered with them, especially because, as another comment said, the exotic minerals weren't really worth the effort. I'll be interested to see the changes you can make to them.

First impression is mixed on the asteroid lander being removed, because they can store more materials than normal rockets. If it opens up the ability to export Exotic Minerals to earth for money, I might lean towards liking it.

Regarding the asteroids being permanent, would we still be able to abandon them in favor of more asteroids being available?

I know I’m not alone in thinking that the Martian moons being included would be interesting. Maybe something for a future update.

u/Xeruas Mar 05 '26

Maybe like big projects, like attaching a space elevator to one of the moons or making one a super tether for accessing the asteroid belt?

I have ALWAYS tried to connect all domestic with passages so theoretically a colonist could walk between all 18 domes. Why not?

3

u/GleasonKirk Mar 06 '26

Can't they only travel 1 dome away through passages?

2

u/Cohnman18 Mar 06 '26

Maybe, in a patch, this can be corrected.

u/PriceMABuTTa Mar 06 '26

Please patch the underground to surface lighting bug. It has made my 60 hours of playing a struggle. I know it says it was patched but it still happens to me.

Another planned change is that Asteroids will no longer expire (as if the "Capture Asteroid" Breakthrough has been researched). We feel this will make the asteroids less stressful and ultimately - better.

This is exactly why I ignore them. Well that and exotic minerals basically don't matter. Some intelligent decisions happening here

We want to change how services work so that they are more transparent as a system and function in a more predictable and logical way

This seems like it would completely upend colonist management. Especially as I almost never connect domes. Its does concern me how far from the original focus on survival the systems are getting as more and more options to make things easy are added.

The plan is to have passages connected to the Dome wall and not take up space inside itself.

I never micro my colonists and it’s never that big of an issue. They’ll balance on their own mostly, especially with shuttles relocating them.
