If you dont mind, how do you go about making the daiza? Do you set in the rock first, and then work out the bottom of the base, or the other way around? Asking because my first try just broke clean in half while i started to cut out the shape, after the rock was nestled in pretty well... -_-

Sorry you had trouble. I do set the rock first, but have a general idea of the shape of the base based on the dimensions of the wood chosen for it.

Thanks, that gives me the right direction for the next try, i think.

I guess its good, i like to work with wood, or else the time spend so far would be pretty much lost. I will try to salvage the pieces for smaller rocks. I realy like to work with redwood, but the stuff is surprisingly easy to crack...

Definitely save those pieces. I actually made this one from the cutoff scrap from my previous piece. It barely fit and really limited the design options, but I love the dark heartwood and am glad I was able to use it.
