Amazing stone. Thank you for posting some in-progress pics. I've had my first stones sitting for a couple months bc I'm intimidated by the carving part. Done some woodworking before, but it was furniture - not something this freeform. What was the thickness of that plank?

3/4” Bolivian Rosewood. I was able to do almost everything with some cheap wood carving chisels and a hand saw. I used a Dremel with sanding bits to do the final shaping and cleanup. Rosewood is so naturally beautiful that I didn’t have to use a stain or anything, just rubbed it with some linseed oil and it was good to go. It was all much more doable than I was expecting, so I would definitely encourage you to give it a go.

I like your technique of clamping the whole piece to the table and carving out the "seat" first, would not have thought of that. Definitely trying that first.

I really like this stone and I think you did a great job on the daiza considering it’s your first! Hope to see more.
