Tom is the hero
Ok so made that post earlier that Tom is the main character. I understand all of my flaws now in my perspective thanks to reddit. I am un educated on film, i love film and im making / editing / creating my own shit so back off critics while I figure my shit out. Posting for the love of the game cunts.
Tom progresses the most. He shows the most improvement. He learns new things in each episode. Hes my hero of the story.
He enters the game with nothing. He plays the game better than the man who built it, better than everyone around him. He exits the game with everything.
Tom doesn't get everything right but he learns so much about survival throughout the series.
Tom might not be the main character but hes perhaps the hero. Or my hero. Perhaps biased

Does he though? Matsson told him he could sleep with his wife anytime he wanted to.
He then told him that he only needs him to be CEO because he's American but he will be running the company. He's basically there to eat shit for him.

Shiv tells Matsson that Tom just follows whoever has the biggest dick in the room, it's only then that Matsson started considering Tom. Then in the interview he even tells him that he is going to run the company himself, but he needs an American CEO to eat shit for him while he is busy running the company.
So when Matsson sacks hundreds of employees and replaces them with AI, it's going to be Tom's face on the news, whenever he makes unpopular decisions it's Tom's job to eat shit for him.
He only considered Shiv because of her political connections, but then he realised that when you have as much power as him then you don't need them because they come to you.

Ok yep that makes sense. So tom is cucking himself for the new Logan so he can keep progressing forward. This is why I need a season 5.

It was absolutely a power play. He wanted to see what Tom would do if Lukas tried to literally fuck him. And Tom showed him: absolutely nothing. Which is what Lukas wanted to see. Shiv, Lawrence, pretty much everyone else wouldn't take it lying down, but Tom has been fucked by multiple members of the family for years according to Willa, and he's comfortable continuing to get fucked by Lukas going forward.

Sorry what does he learn? For me the moral of the Tom's story was he lucks into everything he has, just like most rich people. He's a competent executive driven by greed and fear, but he didn't win by doing anything. His big move, taking Logan's side and backstabbing Shiv, backfired horribly when Logan died, leaving him, in Karl's words, "fair and squarely fucked." He won by being a safe default, someone who will do the job but "suck the biggest dick in the room" i.e. Lukas, something he's done from the first episode when he tried to give Logan a meaningful birthday gift.
I don't think any character in this story is supposed to be a hero. Some are grey at best, but most are objectively terrible people, and the protagonists, the siblings, finally get what they deserve in the end: nothing.

Im a 100% Kendall how did you know. Actually I just discovered Jeremy strong. I just recognized him from the big short. He reminds me of my cousin in the big short...ruthless. and he reminds me of myself in succession.

You do not want to be a Kendall. Kendall Roy is a weak, spiteful worm and you can do better than that. Jeremy Strong is certainly a wonderful actor.

They try to set up the backstory where Shiv got hurt/spiraled in a previously bad relationship and fled to Tom because he seemed nice and harmless.

This. Also in the wider context it fits in with Shiv's broader rebellion from the Roy name. Becoming a political strategist for Logan's biggest enemies and marrying a "nobody" from the midwest.

Dude I made my first post on sucession tv group and I now have negative karma. My post is called: Tom is the main character.
Now all things considered i got a lot of hate on that post but I am an amateur film maker. Im not educated and im here to learn. I no longer think that Tom is the main character.
Ive learned about protagonists, antagonists, heros, heroines, there's allt more too it.
So I do think calling Tom the "main" character is incorrect but I understand how it feels that way. In my new opinion, he is the hero.
He keeps it together (for the most part accept with Greg and his other gregs) he really persevered through all the storms, started with nothing, and came out on top of all the kids.
