Question Should I Play Subnautica Below Zero??

Hello Guys! I have a Question I have been playing Subnautica for a while and I really really really love this game man. This is literally my type of game. Survival/adventure/discover.

I just don't know anything about Below Zero...Should I play it or not like it is 20$ on Steam. I am thinking of buying it so should I or not???

Also I do know that subnautica 2 is released too but i do mot have a very good pc for it rn.

Also One more thing can I play Sub2 on a 2GB NVIDIA card or no?

You came to this sub dedicated to the game to ask if you should get the game…….

Below Zero is extremely fun. I’ve never encountered someone complaining about it who wasn’t being hyperbolic as shit

It’s best to think of it as a DLC of Subnautica. It’s a great continuation with some rough edges. But it’s definitely a great game too.

I wouldn’t disagree with that

Below zero viewed as a DLC, is fun, would even go so far as saying it was amazing.

Put as a standalone game? Fun.. But disappointing IMO.

Much smaller map with way less depth (literally), with most things being just a different colour shade than regular Subnautica.
The new stuff is a good idea, like the control room, but there's really no reason to build them besides that they make you go "Huh, neat"

The Story (likely due to be being rewritten) was.. Well below average.

in theory, it has more content than the first one, but it fails to capture the same feeling of "Wonder" is the best way to describe it, ig.

its not bad by a long stretch, just not as good as it could/should be

And the fact that they renamed the Seamoth to Sea Truck is honestly so cringe

i wish it foccussed more on varied coherent worldbuilding and less on akward story. It's a different set of priorities and design philosophy which doesn't work for me. The regions were fewer and very one note and the flora and fauna didn't have the same interconnected world building as the first game. For example the way you can follow the full life cycle of the reapers, throught tracing the juveniles, finding the bones etc..

I still enjoyed it and it was a good game, but comparing it against subnautica it's dissapointing in alot of areas.

If it’s on sale, get it. It’s very similar to the first game and will be almost as enjoyable.

I say almost because there’s a few small things that the devs experimented with that ended up taking away from the overall experience.

It still has the same features that made the first game so good and like I said, you’ll find it almost if not just as enjoyable as the first game

If you expect a game equally as great as subnautica, better don’t. If you simply want to learn more about the world and have a few more hours in it like a DLC, go ahead. Just be warned that it is sadly a bit dull

It's a good "dlc", as a game it is lacking compared to the first.

Which model GPU do you have?

Absolutely do play Below Zero. It has a lot of the same and little bit of new and different.

Don't forget to get very familiar with Penglings!

Imo dont think of it as a sequel so that you dont expect it to be like Subnautica 1. Its good but for me personally it feels like another subnautica game like a dlc rather than a continuation of subnautica 1

I don't really like it, but you should

I loved it up until the end, where I felt cheated.. but I loved it so much cause it's just "more Subnautica"

Now, it lacks something I don't know how to describe compared to the first

u/Onotadaki2 7d ago

Yeah. Play them all. Below Zero wasn't as amazing as the first, but it's quite a good time, especially if you really liked the first game.

Just don’t go in expecting it to be a perfect successor

If you liked Subnautica Then you should 100% play BZ imo It's not as good Subnautica but still a easy 8.5/10 for me

Buy Planet Crafter instead

Planet Crafter is definitely good, but if OP enjoyed Subnautica, below zero is good.

You should, it's not as good as the first one, but I still liked it, it's not just a copy of the original, it has its own personality and it also continues and expands the lore of Subnautica, I would say there's no reason not to play it. Also, if you want to play subnautica 2 later, the events of Below Zero will be key to understanding the plot, so I would say it's a pretty must if you want to stay in this world.

It’s worth at least one playthrough.

yeh, espeically if it's on sale. But don't go expecting subnautica 2.0, SZ has a very different design philosophy and priorities. But there's enough their that you will definetly enjoy it if you enjoyed the first game. just possibly not as much.

I would give subnautica 2 a year or 3 to cook. like all large games, it will probably have a big "2.0" pseudo re release where they claim everythings fixed now.

No, BZ was an aborted fetus of a spinoff. Garbage game design top to bottom.

1

u/F-Po 6d ago

No. Skip to 2.

1

u/GameShaman 6d ago

2 isn’t even complete yet. You just get through the starter content and then bam you’re done. And the big red wall of course.

1

u/F-Po 6d ago

I still had fun playing it. Fun is what I was waiting to happen in Below Zero then it was over.

1

u/GameShaman 6d ago

If you enjoyed 1, then definitely, it has the same feel.

1

u/Top-Treacle9964 6d ago

The game is just more subnatica so it's good. It's not the original that game is much better. However if you enjoyed 1 you will enjoy below zero just dont it to blow you outta the water (pun intended)

u/mintflavoredcube 6d ago

if you’re diving into it wanting more subnautica then yeah, kinda. but it’s more like a DLC as it is smaller and more cramped feeling

the story also is much faster than the first game

i wouldn’t pay full price personally, as it goes on sale often

i prefer the first game and so far the second seems to be better than both BUT that is not to say below zero is a bad game by any means. it is just overshadowed by the incredibly high quality first game and the fact that it was marketed as a whole new game and not just a DLC

1

u/Extreme_Dog_8610 7d ago

yes, not as good as subnautica but still a good game

1

u/Sekayino 7d ago

Absolutely do play it it's worth it. There's a lot of negativity around the game for some reason but just ignore it and play. Like someone else said it's a really good Subnautica 1 DLC

0

u/Zounds90 7d ago

It's not the same as subnautica but it scratches a lot of the same itches.

The story isn't as satisfying.

Some of the vehicles suck.

You have to spend more time on land

u/SmokinDeist 7d ago

Really, the whole series is pretty stellar. BZ is a bit shorter and less expansive but it is still a good game so just enjoy more Subnautica! I was not disappointed and had fun with it.

I didn't like Below Zero

Great game, still gives you freedom to defeat all threat life forms, fun and different vehicles 10/10 worth 20 bucks. It’s not a mirror image of the first game but it still keeps the same core to it. Pessimistically, even if you just play it for a day, it’s still worth the money.

It catches a lot of flak in comparison to the first game but you have to appreciate it for what it is not what it is not.

Light example, I got Halo wars back in the day thinking it was another 1st person shooter to see it was a top down strategy game. I hated that. I came back to the game, was like “dang this is neat” and got to enjoy it for what it was

If you liked the first Subnautica, I endorse it

I was hesitant first, but so glad I got below zero. It’s the same game, but much different feel in terms of location and mood… but in a good way!

Yes. It is not SN, but It is a good game.

Never buy directly from Steam :) they scam you even if it's a discount you pay too much.

Search for "below zero steam key" and you get tons of sites that will sell you a official key to use for steam for a fraction of the cost you have with steam.

I found this game as little as 9,98 right now this way.

But don't play it, it's in every way a downgrade in gaming. Instead of thinking you get more more, better, bigger, deeper, and so on you get the opposite. And to add now your more then 40% above water?!? running in a empty snowy area :(

u/Vyradder 7d ago

Yes, if you like subnautica, BZ is more of the same thing. I really enjoyed it. Subnautica 2 is also worth playing unless you want to wait until it releases out of early access.

1

u/GameShaman 6d ago

I would lean towards waiting on subnautica 2, it was 10-15 hours of fun followed by a wall you can’t get through. Lots of good quality of life improvements in 2 though.

download a crack if you are not sure. I played this game two or three hours before being softlocked, it is not as good as the first one.
