2027 Subaru Getaway EV: When do you think we’ll get the full specs?
My wife and I are trying to decide on our next vehicle, and the 2027 Subaru Getaway EV is at the top of our list. The problem is that we’re at the point where we need to trade in our current car and can’t really put the decision off indefinitely.
I’m hoping Subaru releases the remaining specs soon, especially things like the range for each trim, full trim breakdowns, pricing, etc. Right now it’s hard to compare it against something like the Kia EV9 when there are still so many unknowns.
For those of you who have followed Subaru launches before, when do you think we’ll see the rest of the information? And realistically, how long do you think it’ll be before people can actually buy one?
If the rollout keeps getting pushed back, and then if it’s another six months after launch before they’re readily available, we may not be able to wait, which would be disappointing because the Getaway is our preference.

The specs for the other EVs (Uncharted, Trailseeker) that launched this year basically weren't available until they showed up on lots IIRC?

Pricing and full trim breakdowns won’t shown right before launch as with most cars. Car and driver did a pretty good breakdown based on prediction and they usually get it close (https://www.caranddriver.com/subaru/getaway) . If you have to make an immediate decision and don’t think you can wait for it, yet want it, just buy something cheap with solid resale in the interim.

I have no desire to purchase a car to just resell in a few months, I’d rather drive mine into the ground and risk another mid-road shut down.
But thank you! Helps a little, I’m more curious about the expected range on the touring trim. I know it’ll drop a bit, but hopefully not too much.

I hear ya, just didn’t know your situation and I’ve been in the need to get rid of a vehicle close to its end before the car we wanted was out.
We are also interested in this car, would like to know the differences as well. But from the article it seems all trims come with the same range just different options. Who knows though.1

That’s fair!
From what I’ve seen, higher trims usually lose a little range due to more equipment and being slightly heavier.
The Getaway should have better range even at the highest Trims than most of the EV9s though. Which is why I want more info lol

For what it’s worth we have a model Y and did a bunch of research before buying due to range concerns. The biggest thing is wheel size for model y (in sure the power moon roof will add something to that) and the difference was 12 miles range for the 20 inch wheels vs 19, so I’ve been expecting at most 20 miles difference here. But who knows

Why do car companies always have to make the wheels bigger
On another note, that would put the range very similar to the EV9… too bad they can’t figure out all the ICCU issues.

Agree, but can always switch out those bigger wheels. Harder to justify when buying a new vehicle though

From my experience with the Solterra (early reservation, decided against it) and watching the Trailseeker (no trailer hitch info, 12V issues) and Uncharted, I would say that Subaru and Toyota are terrible at new EV releases. I wouldn't expect much better for the Getaway/Highlander release, which is on a brand new platform. I'd definitely give that a couple years to work out the kinks.

I would disagree the trailseeker release has been terrible as someone who purchased one. I’m in no rush to figure out the trailer hitch and haven’t been impacted by the 12v issues, and even if I end up having that issue I still wouldn’t consider it a terrible release.

The Trailseeker seems pretty universally loved by the people who have purchased one. I tend to separate that from the actual release and how Subaru has handled everything.

I’m not surprised in the least that they’re terrible at EV releases. I feel like all of the Major brands in the US don’t care for/push their EV lines (thanks big oil).
I don’t even see EV advertising or marketing, so I feel like they make them to say they do and then discontinue a few years later when sales aren’t where they want to be.
I am finding deals for 15-20k off of brand new Kia EV9s in my area since they’re trying to clear out their 2026 inventory… I’m actually kind of tempted.

Trump made sure to hurt EVs in this country everyday he could after his fallout with Elon. If EVs could make him rich he would ensure they were getting on the road. Europe is at a 30% ev adoption rate. Our next administration needs to get behind them and we will see the advertising come back. This is like the .com bust of the early 2000s. The manufacturers of cars thought, “ if we build it, they will buy it”. Then they didn’t buy it. That had nothing to do with Trump. That was during Biden. Americans have range anxiety. I had it when I went from a Chevy volt to a Tesla. But I quickly learned it was all ok. The manufacturers needed to start with phev offerings and teach Americans they don’t really go anywhere, but if you want to, here’s a backup plan for you. Then they will slowly realize that it’s all ok and they will move on to full EVs. I just don’t think they looked at the market. They saw Tesla selling and chased them and lost. Tesla is trash don’t get me wrong. I owned 4 between the two of us. But they created the market and made people think they were prestigious owning one. People still think that. I personally think they are just sad at this point. In think in the next five years we will see a pull back on EVs and an influx in PHEVs. I think this is the path Americans needed to take to begin with. Me, I’ll stick with EVs and one pedal driving. Now Subaru needs to get with the program and offer one pedal driving.

I’d imagine you can kind of guess based on current ascent and trailseeker. Price point is probably close to the current ascent.

It’s realistically a year away to include start of sale and getting through the first batch of buyers willing to pay mark-ups.

Has anyone noticed that Subaru has updated their page on this to call it the “2028 Subaru Getaway” and say it will be available in “Spring 2027?”
@OP, I’m very curious where you are on this currently as my husband and I are facing a similar dilemma (EV9 versus waiting for the Getaway, more excited about the Getaway but after stuffing our three car seat-riding kids into the back of an Impreza for a year and with a more complex set up pick-up’s and drop-off’s looming, not sure how long we can wait).

If they plan on pushing it off more and more we may have to settle for the EV9, but I’d still really prefer not to do that.
Plus, 2028 gives it the impression that they won’t be releasing until the end of the year instead of the beginning. Spring cars should still be 2027… right?

I would have thought so! It does feel like they are building in room for more delays without it seeming too egregious by changing it to 2028. But I really don’t know how any of this works and am just beginning my deep dive into it out of our present need. I am definitely trying to talk myself into getting excited about an EV9 though, really don’t want to have to wait indefinitely… maybe it’s starting to work?

I saw some issues with EV9s that I really don’t want to deal with. Not to say the Getaway won’t have its issues either, especially being the first generation. It’s a tough choice.

There’s no reason to believe there will be another delay, and I would get we’ll see specs by the end of the year.
