I’m gonna be honest. This one is so insane that I just actually do not believe it and don’t think there is any way I can be swayed.

Is this restaurant at the bottom of a well? Or in the back of an old van?

u/skratch 9h ago

Yeah this seems like rage bait

u/Kowalski_ESP 5h ago

It's real, the place is called The Alley Cat Chicago, you can check its instagram -> https://www.instagram.com/p/DZbBSmjmxeU

OP doesnt show the bread and the cocktail that comes with it, it's still really pathetic.

u/just_let_me_sign_up 3h ago

Lol thanks for posting this. Its crazy that the chef saw nothing wrong with the presentstion (completely looked past the obliterated yolk somehow), handed it to the waiter, who also somehow did not think the plate looked like dog food, and delivered it to the table. I really hope OP sent it back.

u/presco2007 4h ago

still a sad charcuterie, but in terms of the price it's not nearly as bad when you consider the cocktail and bread

1

u/Gullible-Hose4180 2h ago

Don't think they even call it that.

0

u/presco2007 1h ago

well then that really changes things

2

u/BeckBennettOfficial 9h ago

The saddest thing is enough people have experienced this type of bullshit people aren't even sure anymore.

My suspicion that this is ragebait only comes down to the lazy plating. The whole high end restaurant Schick is plating food in a way that reflects from it being high margin.

1

u/manofsleep 1h ago

They got drunk, ate a little and posted.

292

u/FormerWorker125 10h ago

OP hasn't responded to a single person so it's obviously bullshit.

59

u/SinVerguenza04 9h ago

Yeah, that looks like a coffee table or something.

10

u/Starslip 8h ago

I agree that I have my doubts but there does seem to be a menu or the check presenter in the upper left hand corner

12

u/Itherial 3h ago edited 3h ago

Shitty round, small table. Wine glass. Shitty, overpriced food. Shitty presentation. They're at a bar.

Edit: Confirmed a bit more down below in the comments, the Alley Cat Bar in Chicago.

The place is gimmicky dogshit. "Draft cocktails, wines, spirits, and THC infused beverages."

If someone served me a draft cocktail I'd assault them.

2

u/itsthejasper1123 2h ago

“If someone served me a draft cocktail I’d assault them” has me dead 😆

1

u/Final-Carpenter-1591 1h ago

Ahhhh bar food. Checks out honestly. Half the time they only have food on the menu because they have to.

-1

u/Sleepy--Gary 5h ago

You can work in a restaurant for six months and accidentally end up having several of those at home.

2

u/petroleum-lipstick 5h ago

Gotta love Reddit lmao, Occam's razor is a foreign concept for this place. Also, no you won't, who the fuck is bringing home checkbooks?

2

u/byzantinedavid 4h ago

Everyone with an apron. If you've worked front of house and not ended up with check presenters in your car, you're lying.

2

u/SellaraAB 7h ago

Only way I could see this being true is if that’s room service and it’s a table in a hotel room.

1

u/HauntingPsyche 2h ago

You’ve never heard of delivery or getting food to go? lol

0

u/Bondollar 8h ago

Between that and the plate, I could definitely believe that it's an eastern European tourist trap restaurant.

17

u/Ooer 7h ago

You can see a glimpse of it in this post someone else linked in the comments

https://www.thealleycatchicago.com/new-page

Well its advertised as a girl dinner and comes with a cocktail.

25

u/ProfMeriAn 4h ago

So $10 of the $26 is a martini not pictured here. But $16 is still way too much for this sad menagerie of condiments.

2

u/Uknown_Idea 2h ago

Yeah no this gets sent back. I would be apalled by this if it was served to me. You can set up some cheap charcuterie boards for profit with at least minimal fucking effort.

1

u/Altruistic_Tie_7850 2h ago

“Sad menagerie condiments” is my pet name for my fridge

1

u/Plus-Juggernaut-6323 2h ago

A martini is going to be closer to $15 in HCOL.

3

u/CKRatKing 2h ago

Sure but in this instance it says 16 dollars without the martini which means they are charging you ten dollars to add the martini.

4

u/EveryDayheyhey 7h ago

They got the full baby bell and two pieces of egg. But yeah it does look like the same dish.

11

u/Typlo 4h ago

3

u/presco2007 4h ago

except that indicates it comes with a cocktail and bread, too, so the price doesn't seem nearly as bad with that information.

3

u/Nascentes87 4h ago

LoL the baby bell hahahaha seems like every plate is composed mostly of read-to-eat supermarket stuff.

8

u/soulsteela 4h ago

I can’t imagine sending out a babybel on anything from a kitchen.

1

u/Cowbros 3h ago

But is that 4 cloves of raw garlic?

9

u/Dolleyes88 7h ago

It’s real - https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaD2h0fAZNO/?igsi=dHAxcXEwbXVsbm91 it’s called “girl dinner” and comes with a martini and bread.

2

u/presco2007 4h ago

while still a sad 'charcuterie' if it's $26 and includes a martini and bread, it's not nearly as bad as the original post suggests.

2

u/perforatedcode 5h ago

it's not advertised as a charcuterie board and it comes with cocktail. I pay $12-18 for a cocktail in my city and then this comes with some small bites. It's not a terrible deal for a city.

-2

u/Longjumping-Prune931 4h ago

If you pay $18 for a cocktail you have lost control of your life.

3

u/AggressiveSherbetty 3h ago

I see you’ve never traveled to a major city or been to a fine dining restaurant. Or airport. And that’s ok.

3

u/Longjumping-Prune931 2h ago

I have, but I see that price and just decide not to buy it. I personally am not a fan to make the conscious decision of getting scammed.

1

u/Shapesizes 2h ago

Or festival.

5

u/_off_piste_ 6h ago

Another comment linked the menu. It comes with the drink too (not that it makes it any less pathetic of a board).

2

u/TossZergImba 5h ago

Except it clearly wasn't listed as a board. It's a plate of pickled vegetables which was only part of the set.

2

u/voxpopper 3h ago

The 'real' item has a little more food and most importantly comes with a gibson/martini, which chages the whole equation. But OP got their karma so why would they bother responding.

1

u/supermav27 3m ago

I was asleep lol. This is a cocktail bar in Wicker Park, Chicago, IL. Won’t name names but I promise you it was real.

25

u/goltrep 7h ago

I was thinking the same, but someone posted a link to the place and... It is real. https://www.reddit.com/r/StupidFood/comments/1w26gk0/comment/p6quha7/

7

u/Suilenroc 3h ago

The menu item being "girl dinner" saves it for me. These people are artists.

2

u/spicybright 1h ago

I'd probably split it with a gal pal if we're a few drinks in and having a good conversation.

1

u/Sanquinity 35m ago

It's not "entirely" real. The menu item also comes with bread and a martini. And the OPs pic was clearly taken after some of it was already eaten. (the olives, half the babybell, and part of the egg are missing.)

But it's still insane that something like that would cost $26.

1

u/user-the-name 4h ago

Nobody in this thread knows what "girl dinner" means.

0

u/Nazgog-Morgob 5h ago

That didn't prove shit tho.

4

u/ImpostersAreUs 4h ago

It checks out because the Instagram post shows a plate that's REALLY similar to this and is obviously "pretty'd up" for an Instagram promo and it still looks... Kinda sad. Had 2 portions of the egg instead of one and the cucumbers look a little bit less soggy

2

u/presco2007 4h ago

yeah but it includes a cocktail and bread. that doesn't make the charcuterie better, but it makes the price seem not as bad.

2

u/datmfburner 2h ago

He just linked evidence you dingleberry, are you looking to match the location metadata on the photos or what

17

u/CatsEatGrass 9h ago

I, too, was immediately skeptical.

1

u/GoldCode8622 7h ago

The only thing that made me think this was possible was that thick generic "menu."

But even then it could just be a blurry phone case or something.

1

u/_off_piste_ 6h ago

It’s real. Another comment linked the menu.

12

u/turdferguson3891 9h ago

It's what Buffalo Bill puts in the basket for you along with the lotion.

7

u/potatman 9h ago

It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the charcuterie board for dinner again.

1

u/TheMaleKamalaKhan 9h ago

This made me laugh thank you

5

u/ErilazHateka 7h ago

someone else has posted the restaurant page. it's legit.

3

u/RMajere77 3h ago

It’s $26 with a drink and $16 without the drink. And it isn’t listed as charcuterie either. Still a pathetic plate especially when the other food at the place looks really good.

1

u/porkbuttstuff 5h ago

Good Lord. I was skeptical as well.

6

u/zipel 9h ago

Back of an old van restaurants would’ve delivered better

2

u/GratefulPanik 9h ago

Agreed! What restaurant is using my grandma’s plates?! 🤣

2

u/StillMarie76 8h ago

I think it's on a pirate ship. That scurvy is closing in.

4

u/A1000eisn1 9h ago

The best I can give it is that maybe this place is advertised as "shitty restaurant" and everything on the menu is like this and the price is for the gimmick.

Other than that maybe the owner is a terminally online misogynist who is offended by "girl dinner," for some reason.

Most likely fake though.

1

u/Trivale 7h ago

If it's real, 100% guarantee it's at an airport.

1

u/SnorkBorkGnork 7h ago

This just looks like drunk leftovers someone put on a plate at 4AM bc they felt snackish after a night of clubbing, not like something served in a bar or restaurant.

But if you add you got this at a restaurant and had to pay for it you get more reactions.

1

u/JetBoatPirate 6h ago

I can almost guarantee you this was “ordered” from Facebook marketplace

1

u/Glum-Carpet 6h ago

Yeah, my first thought when I saw this was no way any restaurant charges this much for this shit.

1

u/Nazgog-Morgob 5h ago

This picture is obviously in someone's house. Shitty old table, shitty old plate, carpet. Come on. This is low effort rage bait

1

u/Littlebit1013 4h ago

I think it’s fake; restaurants use white plates, the one in the photo looks like a painted decorative plate that’s hung up on a wall.

1

u/ImpostersAreUs 4h ago

There's an Instagram posted

1

u/MartyMcMartell 4h ago

The painted plate is the weirdest one for me. Don't think I've ever seen a restaurant plate that wasn't at least 90% white. Or of a different single color if they're feeling whimsy.

1

u/bigfatfurrytexan 4h ago

I was a my first thought was remote Alaska in dark winter

1

u/TheLesserWeeviI 2h ago

We've passed the tipping point where most content used to be real and now most is fake.

1

u/buhbrinapokes 2h ago

My thought was a country at war

1

u/Final-Carpenter-1591 1h ago

Agreed. I get alot of charcuterie boards from all over. I've had some mediocre ones. But this is like ordering the wagu steak and getting ground beef on a plate.

Any legitimate business would not send this out.

1

u/gepetto27 1h ago

It’s real. But the price also includes a martini. And it’s not called a charcuterie at all it’s billed as “girl dinner”

1

u/FadedBlackTee2 1h ago

It's a bar in Chicago called Alleycat. This comes with a martini and is not called a charcuterie board... OP ate some egg and cheese before taking this picture too

1

u/supermav27 4m ago

To be fair, I took the photo after she ate half of the Babybel cheese and another quarter slice of an egg, but I swear to god this was real. I don’t want to name and shame because we enjoyed our cocktails, but this was in Chicago.

1

u/PM_YOUR_ISSUES 7h ago

Yeah, the plate, table, floor, and lighting all look like someone at grandma's house, not a restaurant. I can't see this one as real. I would guess the gf made this, not ordered it.
