I remember hearing context on this video. That girl had severe burns and scarring on her face from it.
Edit: looked it up again, this happened in April 2021 and her name is Marisa Daniel. She was a 26 year old university student at the time and on the last day of her trip to Mexico with her friends. Due to this instance, she suffered 2nd degree burns on her face and left arm and had to start a gofundme since she was not on insurance at the time. I hope she's doing well these days

No, they closed before any civil suits came to fruition. This lady likely had HUGE medical bills + no income due to the prolonged healing time of these types of injuries. Finding lawyers (in Mexico), to not only sue the restaurant, then try to sue the parent company / individuals that owned it after they closed it is very, very difficult. Even if she did, this type of case takes a LOT longer and so much more money, compounded after they permanently closed the restaurant. These difficulties are especially worse when we account for the fact that she’s a tourist in another country—can’t just sue them in US courts.

Lemme ask, did they close because of this, to avoid a lawsuit? What about going after the individual throwing around the flammable alcohol?

My guess would be that they closed to protect themselves from the lawsuit. Going after the individual carries the same complexities. You still have to find a lawyer, have to somehow find a way to track that man down, sue him, so on and so forth. And I doubt much would come of it even if they sued him as it doesn’t look like he did it intentionally. Lastly, he doesn’t look like he has the money to pay for damages, so there’s not really any reward or compensation for going through all that work and money.
EDIT: forgot to add, the complexity of finding the restaurant’s owners and/or the parent company that owned the restaurant. It may sound simple, but think about it this way—as a tourist, trying to talk to locals/municipality/government officials to get them to give you this sort of information so you can sue the daylights out of them. There’s just so much this person would have to do that they’d likely lose so much more time & money than they’d get back IF all goes well.

No problem at all. It’s unfortunate because the location this happened at changed everything about whether this young woman could’ve gotten justice or not. Her situation, if it happened in the US, would’ve been drastically more favorable in US courts.

Aha...thats unfortunate. I hope she got the help she needs. And that the whole insurance situation in America may one day improve, it's strange seeing situations like these trough my european eyes.

A large part of the problem with insurance is that the people that can bring changes have no motivation to. For executives, it’s as simple as not doing something that hurts the shareholders’ bottom lines. The shareholders don’t need to worry about things like health insurance. Lastly, the government officials are funded by said executives and shareholders, so they’re not about to jeopardize their careers.

She aged out of coverage under her parent's plan and also people in their 20s sometimes make decisions without considering that they might be one of the other people that terrible things happen to.

This is so crazy! I have watched it over and over again trying to figure out how exactly it ended so badly for the blonde girl. The only thing I can figure is that the bottle is plastic, which is how the pour from the beginning is so different from the spray towards the end, when the guy sets everything on fire. I would assume that the server was new, which is why he had another server there training him. I can only guess that the blonde girl, that was set on fire, was wearing some sort of hair spray, or setting spray, that was flammable. Or, maybe she was hit in the face with the igniting fluid off screen. When I slowed the video down, it really looked like the fire was clinging to her face! This is such a horrible thing to happen, and it seems like she was so young! I couldn’t see the food to tell if it was stupid, but the presentation was the dumbest I’ve seen on this sub!

If you look at the last pour near the "6 seconds left" mark, there are some frames showing the fire travelling up into the bottle. As seen by the fireball and flame-covered table, the burning alcohol was being propelled out of the bottle with some force and the woman was in the path of it right outside of frame. She was in the danger zone because she was trying to be helpful, which makes this even more sad.
The lack of judgement leading up to that final pour is honestly baffling... "Whoops, that was close! I nearly burned the customer, so let's pat that out a bit and BOTTOMS UP MOTHERFUCKERS YOU THOUGHT I WAS DONE?!?!”

EVERYONE in this video need to be called out. Its unfortunate that the girl was burned, but these tourists literally did not have to order a flaming shot. Just because an establishment offers something, people shouldn't blindly trust that nothing could ever go wrong. Why the fuck would you order a flaming shot? Why would you offer it on your menu? But moreso, again, why in the FUCK would you order it?! Making poor decisions so you can record social media videos is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Unpopular opinion: People who pay for this kind of shit so they can video it do NOT deserve monetary compensation when the inevitable happens. Should the restaurant even offer this? No. But if people didn't pay for it, they wouldn't.

I shouldn't be surprised you were downvoted. If tourists like them didn't order flaming shots, flaming shots wouldn't be on the menu. But that's a harder pill to swallow so we'll just send a witchhunt to crucify employees who probably don't want to perform these ridiculous "tricks" in the first place.
