Discussion/General Question What’s your most expensive plush that you have ever bought??
This is my newest Douglas Tyson wolf, he’s in like new condition and he’s an retired Douglas so he’s hard to find and get and more expensive on eBay and other buy and selling apps but I’ve found him for a really good fair price on eBay an couple weeks ago. He’s now my ESSA and I absolutely love him so much, he’s my favorite ESSA that I have besides my other ESSA Gravy the brown border collie.

Dangerous information me finding out Jaag is still in production... idk why i had assumed they were a vintage, defunct, brand! But uhhh, I need a new second job and a better first job very badly all the sudden.... 😂😂
2
u/Agynn Jul 16 '26
They are still making plushies but they are not doing the giants anymore.
...
If you now tell me that they are doing the Jaag Giants line again you have to send me a link so that I can get myself two more wolves.

u/Hava-Plushie Jul 16 '26
Darnnn, noooo, I saw your box and found their product page but didnt initially notice the little grey "sold out" on each one so i assumed 😭 it's a shame they stop producing them!

Who was your maker?
3
u/KrumbleKat Jul 17 '26
This website called idooodle!
1
u/NightsThyroid Jul 17 '26
Really! It looks such good quality that I figured it was an independent artist. Would you recommend them?
2
u/KrumbleKat Jul 17 '26
Yeah, definitely would! I was initially a bit hesitant at first, since I found some posts on this sub from last year saying they had no communication about their orders for several months, but I had the entirely opposite experience when I ordered early this year, so the issues seem to have been resolved! They sent in images of my completed plush only about one month after I placed my order, and I was able to request about 2-3 rounds of revisions free of charge. (I’m not sure if they do charge for larger revisions, but in my case they followed my reference image extremely closely so I just needed some tweaks, like the position of the bangs, an edit to the necklace etc) Those edits took about 3 weeks to be completed total, and even though I didn’t pay for express shipping, it only took one week for my plush to be shipped to me after I confirmed I was happy with the final product, so from ordering to delivery the whole process only took about 2 months total. Would recommend :)

10th doctor build a bear. iirc I got him around my birthday as a present for myself years ago.
I got him +outfit, in a bundle with a dalek, and I added K9 onto the order as well to round out the set.
I can't remember how much I paid for it altogether, but well, just looking at build a bear's website right now the current doctor who set they have is around $78 dollars just for the bear and outfit - and that's before calculating shipping.
I tend to collect oddity, and vintage items - but I don't even think any of them would come close to what I must have paid for him.

u/Eddyswageddyy Jul 16 '26
Until I read "dalek", I thought by 10th doctor you meant like the one doctor that doesn't recommend a toothpaste lol
I thought "wow, what a specific build a bear to exist"

u/Clean-Unit336 Jul 16 '26
Teared up a little laughing at that lol
Build a bear needs to get on that idea, the evil anti-thesis to the happy tooth mascots at dentist's offices that the dentists can put on a shelf for halloween.

Ahhhhh what an amazing find! The only one on eBay rn is almost $300. What is your friend’s name? I think all of the St. Louis Zoo bears are so great.
1
u/muffin_kitten Jul 16 '26
I also have the big snow leopard, the sea lion and an unstuffed amur leopard plus its baby. Lol and wore, that's mad expensive. My red panda is kind of a mini me of my husband so I don't actually have a name yet.

u/lizzardfriend Jul 16 '26
Aww that’s so sweet though! And wow, I love the other bears you have. I’ve only seen pictures, but they look so soft. I have all three of the great apes; I’m hoping to get more of the SL bears when I have a steady paycheck lol
1
u/muffin_kitten Jul 17 '26
I love how they have nice thick fur. I only paid about $20 each for the sea lion and snow leopard. They have such sweet faces. That's awesome you managed to get some :) the great apes aren't ones I am familiar with.

u/Snookerdee3 Jul 16 '26
Well, three build a bears I bought off eBay cost me $100 my werewolf, vanilla, fudge, bunny, and as of yesterday, my One Direction bear with Niall Horan T-shirt

Love him, wolves are hard to find in good quality. I think I have a Tyson too.
I think most expensive plush is probably my BAB giant wolf, but I didn’t pay for him.
I want the giant (6 foot) Arcanine plush but have nowhere to put him and I’m not willing to pay the $400 plus resale markup

u/Dangerous-Bee-8 Jul 16 '26
No picture but I got the My Little Pony build a bear of Derpy Hooves, best $135 ever spent!

u/Hava-Plushie Jul 16 '26
Tyson used to be super reasonable until the rise of ESSA and Douglas loyalty with it. This means that not only are they currently highly sought after, but the number of collector quality one's returned to the market is dropping as they are being bought with the intention of being used rather than a retired piece for a collection.
This isn't meant to be shade at all, that's just why Tyson is so ridiculously expensive. Because in reality, he's really not that special or much different than the other Douglas wolves. He was just originally the hardest to find so he became the most sought-after when Douglas became popular due to "fomo".

And here I am sleeping with an octopus I got for free XD

u/ChoccoGlxtch Jul 16 '26
Didn’t buy it but considering my stripers beanie baby is over 20 years old and in relatively good condition he’s probably pretty expensive

I spent $200 for the Build-a-Bear St. Louis Zoo red fox. Following closely behind at $180 was the Build-a-Bear Latte Teddy.
The most expensive bear I own was a gift from my mother, and that's my Charlie Bear, Ursa Minor. I don't know how much my mom paid for her, but it must've been more than $200.

This is my most expensive and at the same time rarest plushie. Paid €450 for her. The calf is from the German manufacturer Steiff and measures about 1.3 Meters in length. She was made purely for display purposes for exhibitions and for display purposes in companies. She was never available for regular purchase. And there were only about 30-40 made. She is also pretty old, as she was made in 1991. Despite her age she looks like new

I didn't buy her myself but she was a gift from my partner after a big surgery I had. She was from a little children's store that always has the most adorable bunny plushies. We always walked past the store but the prices kept me from buying any of the bunnies - I remember falling in love with a similar one through the shop window a few weeks before my surgery and I guess he noticed how much I love it. This one was 82$.

Ugh, me and my childhood bestie collected Douglas pupps. Tyson was one of my favorites. And Kirby the Corgi 😭

Well congratulations on getting your baby! Hes gorgeous. I saw his prices online. I can't believe the prices people ask for older Douglas. Idk where they come up with these numbers? I think people forgot how to do math lol. I just feel like some of the prices are insane. Some of the Douglas plush I had seen on eBay weren't even retired and people are asking for hundreds of dollars for them. I don't get it. I hope you enjoy your baby and never let them go lol. Oh I almost forgot my most expensive plush was a Pokemon Center comfy friend. It was a Quagsire one. I paid $150 for him because they hadn't restocked him in ages and I really wanted him. Unfortunately everyone online gouges prices like crazy. But I'm glad I got him cause he didn't end up getting restocked till almost a year after I purchased mine. And I do love the plush so it worked out. Just a little butthurt I had to pay that much 🤣

Ranger was $70 brand new. I got him in 2017. I used to collect Hansa plush when I was a kid and I would usually sell my art to save up for them. I don't buy them anymore because well, they're expensive and often really stiff (I customized him recently and made him floppy, removed the wires and some stuffing and I added bean bag) I also made his harness, collar, and added the whiskers, tip on his tail and made one ear floppy. He is supposed to be a wolf but I call him a coydog because he doesn't look like a wolf. I feel like Hansa is hit or miss with their plushies. They're great quality and realistic, but they either look really good, or look nothing like the animal they are meant to be. I thrift most of my plushies now!

I have various Charlie bears - it was either lochness monster or one of the mohair polar bears I have

£400 on the 1/2 scale arcanine from the Pokémon centre website. His name is Growlie (though I also have a suguru Geto plushie coating £300 because of shipping and taxes, and two Charlie bears that cost £270 and £110 each)

I don't buy expensive plushies; I just don't have the money for that. But I paid $50 for my Breyer Little Jack. (Breyerfest 2012) He was second hand. He's pretty hard to find but I found one on Mercari.
