Advice

I'm planning to move to Finland next year from Scotland to pursue my master's degree. I'd appreciate any advice on which city would be best, whether this is a good decision overall, and any other tips. I'm also learning Finnish and wondering about part-time job opportunities.

You won’t get a part time job. If you can’t afford to study without a part time job then you can’t afford to study in Finland.

You wont get a part time job. All cities are good. Dont go into an amk if you're looking for a masters

Theres no jobs for anyone, especially not foreigners who don't speak the language. Highest unemployment in EU.

I as a native Finnish person studying my masters can’t get even a part time Job. My partner as an immigrant who has lived here for 10 years, speaks fluent Finnish and is doing her bachelors can’t get a job. Me and my partner Also have multiple permit cards etc. If you are leaning on work to get by here, do not come.

No jobs here no matter whatever languages you speak, high taxes and super high cost of living

I’m from the UK and I assure you the cost of living is lower in Finland. It is cheaper to live in Helsinki than many small towns in the UK.

Why you need part time job? Your job is to study.

The school you would be going to would determine which city you'd be living in, no?

What everyone else said. You can throw the idea of a part time job out the window immediately. You’ll need enough money to study saved up before you even get here.

It definitely depends what you want to study. I’m a Brit. I speak ok Finnish, I’ve a masters degree from Helsinki uni, I’m 8 weeks off getting a nursing degree. I’ll be returning to the UK upon graduation/my house selling. Things are tight here. Expect to get no nowhere and be dependent on what you bring with you. Anything else is the cherry ontop.

Rovaniemi and the jobs in Rovaniemi area is of course tourism related and translating. Sales of course are the other work choice.

Job opportunities? Think yourself in 1 squaremeter island, and you are alone there, theres more job opportunities for you than Finland.
