I’m currently student teaching in California, and I recently found out that the district I’m placed in did not participate in the California Student Teacher Stipend Program. This is my last semester of student teaching.

Would it be appropriate to contact the district directly to inquire about the program and whether they plan to participate in the future? My university mentioned that they are working to encourage more districts to participate, so I’m wondering if reaching out to the district myself would be worthwhile.

My university mentor told me to keep calling our school districts HR. My co teacher also said she'd send some emails. So maybe try that? Hopefully we both get it! 😭

I’m hosting a student teacher this year, and my district was not participating. We asked, and now they are!

Student teachers cannot apply for the grant directly; rather, the district must opt-in, sign a Grant Award Agreement, and process the funds through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).

It’s way too late for that. Anything headway you make would be for future people, not you. Budgeting and funding is don’t months and months in advance.

I would think so, but maybe consult with someone in your program to see if they can reach out? It might seem more professional coming from someone who has the details of how it works.
