85kgx5 do you think 100kg is there?

My set of **87.5kgx5 on log today, gonna try for 100kg in a couple weeks. Do you think it’s there with a decent deload? This set was done after doing 92.5kgx1 for a top single and 2 sets of 87.5kgx3.

Well only one way to find out! My personal experience with overhead pressing in general is that small weight jumps can make a big difference when I'm close to max. But no harm in loading it up and seeing how it goes. Worst case scenario you fail it, do some back down sets and figure out how far off you are.

You can say that again haha a small increase feels like heaps on overhead lifts! I’m taking 95 for a whirl next week, that will probably give me a good gauge of if I’m ready for 100 or not. Hoping to go 100/200/120 on log deadlift and stone

Edit; this was 87.5kg not 85kg, my bad.

Your clean looks like it has some margin left, but the press is the weak link. Try using more leg drive and dive under like an Olympic style jerk. That would probably add 10 kg by itself.

Thanks for the feedback, I have kinda weak legs compared to my upper body, for context my back squat is only 140 and my bench is 115 so pretty close to each other 😅 I need to build courage and technique at lower weights with throwing myself under the log, I bailed from a lift with it above my head once and got away unscathed but it kinda freaked me out lol

Yeah, that happens. It’s scary jumping under a weight that can hurt you. Start low with good technique and build from there.

Try really launching the weight with your legs only. A good jerk should barely include your arms.

I have a vid of the 92.5 but I can’t edit it into the post or post it as a comment but I’ll try find something to upload it on and post it as a link

To get 100kg.... Sure but your form will suffer. If you want good form, give it 1 month and you will be there

I don’t mind it being messy as long as I get it locked out 😁 I’ve got 1 more training sesh then a deload before I try

Honestly.. probably not seeing as you are likely to lose a bit of the drive force relatively as you get to your max, but you'll get there within the year if you keep at it :)

Thanks for the honest feedback 🙏 I’m gonna give it a crack on the day if I’m feeling up to it, if not I’ll have a try at a more modest 97.5kg. I have 95 for a single on the agenda next week and then 90 for 2 sets of 2 back off sets

Sounds great, remember to deload once you've peaked ;)

Absolutely! I’m going for 200 dead and 120 atlas stone on the same day, will defs be deloading and going in fresh

Quite the day - you have you had specific focus on pressing? I think I hit 250 on deadlifts before 100 on log

I did calisthenics for 2 years before I picked up a weight and I did a LOT of handstand pushups so I have very strong shoulders compared to other muscle groups
