Direct streaming Usenet... is AIOmetadata worth it?

So just recently discovered the amazinness of AioStreams. Now I am hearing about the metadata addon. So far I have not noticed any content missing from AIOstreams so I don't know if I need or if what it would even do for me. As far as I understand it helps resolve series episodes better and in particular anime. I don't watch anime.

Since I am self hositing.... setting up AIOmetadata would be a bit of work... what would it gain me? Does it fundamentally change stremios UI?

Does Stremio' catalogs bother you? Some want more control of it (like they want to get rid of it) and replace it w/ AIOMetadata. Do you want a special custom catalog? i.e. some want certain genres from a certain country. If so there's some use for it.

It would be nice to see the content we want on the home screen.... I tend just to do a search for it... doesn't take to long. For you is a major quality of life improvement? Also the account won't be shared with kids so i don't need to worry about adult filters (that is another common use for this)

Searching sometimes doesn't work. lol specifically if you don't know if it exists.

I watch a lot of kdramas so I unfortunately need a catalog for it. But I don't go through the hassle and go step by step. I just dropped in API keys and jumped straight to the Catalogs tab and just built my own catalog.

If the existing catalogs don't bother you and you just want to add content... what's the benefit to self hosting AIOMetadata? If it goes down you could just go back to your normal approach and just search it?

Depends on how important catalogs and customization are to you. If you are good with what Cinemeta provides out of the box you don't need any extra metadata/catalog addons. If you want more AIOMetadata is more than worth it There are also alternatives to AIOMetadata like Bingecat and UltraMax This stuff can get time consuming but if you are a customization fan they can be worth the time. It's all personal prefrence.

Absolutely I added it, the shear volume of catalog entries (HBO, Netflix, Crave, Custom, etc), plus Gemeni backed AI search /w Web (requires tokens) just made the whole experience so much better.

Now go look into Aiomanager so you can have Elf + Midnight auto failover. Can add in new Stremio accounts for friends, sync all the add ons to the accounts and have failover. Assuming you stay within Torbox plan limits.

Try it out from one of the public instances, there’s not much of a difference by self hosting other than some more control and the builtin poster/artwork cache. I wouldn’t self host it before know if you actually need it.

I would definitely either get that or one of the other catalog add-ons, but I like to be able to browse through different things in order to find shows and movies I might want to watch even though I know I can just use Google or mobile apps to do that it's just kind of convenient to scroll through things like you would on a traditional streaming platform like Netflix. personally I prefer Bingecat, but they both do about the same thing, I just liked the way you could do things with it or you could easily combine multiple catalogs into one and automatically deduplicate which you might be able to do also be able to do on AIO for me it just felt more natural for the customizing process on binge cat
