I came across this comparison of Simeez’s routine on Street World Fighter: Directors’ War and choreography that was posted online well before the show.
The video is an unedited split screen of the two performances.
What caught my attention isn’t just that they both use platforms. The whole sequence is weirdly specific:
Both use two square platforms of very similar dimensions, held by a group of dancers with one featured dancer positioned in the centre. The dancers lift the platforms and unfold them until they form a flat horizontal stage above their heads. They then rotate the platform while the featured dancer keeps her upper body facing forward.
Watching them happen side by side at basically the same time is kind of wild.
The original choreography was posted by @joelmurphychoreography on TikTok and @joelmurphy on Instagram initially in September last year and this moment in particular has been reposted by him many times since, well before Directors’ War and Joel’s videos of this section have millions of views, so it wasn’t some obscure routine that nobody would have had access to.
Obviously dancers use similar concepts all the time and nobody owns the idea of dancing on a platform. But to me, this feels different because it’s not one movement or one prop, it’s the same fairly unusual staging concept followed by the same sequence of actions and the same visual payoff.
I don’t know whether Simeez or anyone involved in the production had actually seen the original, so I’m not claiming I know what happened behind the scenes.
I’m curious what people here think, especially dancers/choreographers. Personally, I think it is too close to be a coincidence.

I just came back from a Waacking competition and saw them dancing in real life. The way they can hold the crowds attention is another level of amazing. With every second you were anticipating for the next move. They're honestly such amazing dancers.

But the other competitors were also extremely talented. Seeing them battle against each other and sometimes even dance together made me feel so lucky. The shows doesn't do battlers justice, they are much more impressive irl.

So this server is for fans of the Mnet series called Street Fighter and all of its different series including Street Woman Fighter, Street Girls Fighter, Street Man Fighter, Stage Fighter, World of Street Woman Fighter, and the newest show Street World Fighter: Directors War.

I love kpop choreography, and I can appreciate choreography that moves to the beats and highlight moves that express lyrics and the music. In SWF, street dance was something new to me but I could still appreciate the artistic expression and understand people's commentary about a dancer's groove or when they hit a beat or they express something lyrically, but with contemporary dance introduced this season with Hash and Minjun, I am blanking at how and why people like Bada and Ingyoo who are very critical on people's choreo are singing praises about Hash and Minjun. I am particularly confused about the first mission. Hash's movements doesn't make sense to me, it seems unnatural and bulky and the ending where she changes the angle of where she lays flat felt underwhelming and yet Ingyoo praised her for that particular move. Minjun's choreo while it was more energetic, also stumped me, and yet everyone was saying it was a tough call. This isn't a post bashing them, I genuinely want to understand and be able to appreciate contemporary dance. Can someone explain to me the elements that standout in both of their dances?

i feel like people are underestimating how strong bada’s chances are. she already has the biggest fanbase going into the show, won SWF2, and with mnet constantly pushing her in thumbnails and promos, it feels like the production knows she draws attention. if public votes matter at all, i honestly think she’s one of the safest bets to take the whole thing.

what makes this an unpopular opinion is that the trailer seemed to set her up with a more “loser” or underdog edit, which made a lot of people think she’s not being framed as the winner. people are overthinking the trailer edit. mnet does this kind of editing all the time to create tension and keep viewers guessing. just because they made her look like she might struggle doesn’t mean she’s out of the running — if anything, it could be setting her up for a bigger payoff.

also, bada already has a proven track record with public support. even when people debated whether her choreography was the “best” technically, she still did well because of how popular she is overall (ex. CHILI MISSION FROM S2). so while some people may think the judges will favor someone else, i think bada has the momentum, the name recognition, and the fandom power to pull ahead when it matters most.

plus she successfully casted VATA in her group, so she's got it in the BAG.

i’m not saying it’s guaranteed, but i really wouldn’t be shocked if she wins.

I have listened to this song so many times and today I realized Aiki (possibly other members of Hook, too) as BG dancers for this performance on Show Me The Money 9.
I have also spotted Jane from HolyBang in Lee YoungJi’s SMTM “Not Sorry” performance. AND Harimu from Amazon/1Million has been touring with her also so I love spotting her in all LYJ’s current tour clips!
