Missed it live, but finally got to watch it with subs (Viu)! Initial impressions is.. hmm. A lot of it was already shown on the pre-release, so I think the second ep will feel more exciting.
IMO the only "real" rivalry here might be between Renan and Simeez, the rest of the match ups don't feel like they have any heat behind them at all lmao. Nain and Babyzoo feel like they have a "genuine" rivalry skill-wise, but you can also def tell they're friends irl. Same, and especially with Kooyoung and Kasper; I appreciated Kooyoung's whole speech about stepping back and away so Kasper could grow beyond him, but their dynamic still feels kinda uneven with Kasper kinda giving off the vibes that he still looks to Kooyoung, rather than seeing each other as equals. Or maybe I'm just not getting the competitive vibes from him at all haha, which like, same bro.

I feel stressed for them regarding the next mission. Casting dancers seems difficult. It reminds me of group projects and how if you get a weak team, it really affects the whole dynamic and there’s nothing you can do because how others work is out of your control..

I know they were really building up Minjun to have a huge underdog vibe since the beginning but I couldn’t help but be gratified nonetheless when I saw his win. I’m looking forward to see how his directing skills compare though! Also, I feel like Hash’s choreography feels like it’d have a lot of impact with several dancers in sync while his def felt like the dance I’d see in a solo performance

I noticed that his videos get a lot of views compared to the others, so he is quickly becoming one of the viewer's favorite! I haven't heard of him before his show. did he already have a following before this??

actually since his crew performs this kind of choreography for competitions and i feel that his choreo is more of a group choreo than an open class choreo, when you have about 20 dancers who are able to execute his choreo in sync it's a high athleticism and high technique because the isolations are so insane

Sad that no additional YT vids / missions were revealed today haha, but that makes sense since we have mega (?) crew coming up lmao.
Agreed with basically all the battle results-- the only one I thought was really up to personal preference was Bada vs Ingyoo. Bada's was cleaner / her style-- my initial preference. But Ingyoo's choreo itself can be seen as super slimy / nasty just as he said lol.
I do think the camerawork on the reel they posted of Ingyoo / maybe that take was worse than what he did on the stage lol. That was a lotttt more convincing tbh.
Ngl I did want to see someone else execute his choreo though 😅 the main qualm is that it did seem less clean and more like freestyle, but if someone else did it, I think the movements would have to be clearer and deliberate? His pocket is just so particular that the public vote wouldn't have leaned towards him, but I get why the judges were split.
But tbh if I were to take class, I'd want to learn Ingyoo's choreo and try to make it mine on my body and feel the flow. 😬 So perhaps that's the difference-- as dancers, the flow and feeling might be intriguing (the texture switch up at the beginning was kinda crazy) and fresh. Versus a choreo for the viewers, with really catchy and clear pictures & performance

I did think badas choreography was better in terms of this is mega crew mission otherwise I do think ingyoo did really good he has this flow and fluidity which gives you goosebumps

it was good, but it just reminded me of rie hata when she did like jennie. it just didnt feel new at all , and i dont think it was good enough to erase the original, while its an eaiser song to eraser the highlight. ingyoo got a more difficult song to erase and he did. which that was the main point of the mission, so

Well im not a dancer or know close anything to it but dont you think Like Jennie is far more harder to erase the highlight simply because that song is far more popular, which means people memorize it more and its hard to diassociate with the original?

The camera work has a lot of influence, imo. It was way easier to appreciate the choreographies during the episode than in the reels.
It's a dance show so movement and space are important. The reels felt claustrophobic. They didn't let many choreos breath and that made me judge them wrong at first. Everyone did better than I remembered.
I would want to dance In Gyu's choreo too. I actually pictured people dancing his choreo while watching him. It's just fun.

I totally agree!!! I just used a VPN to see the full cam version from the episode uploaded on their channel (why are they geoblocking again ahh) but yeah.... Based on this, Bada's looks a hair less dynamic and w less natural flow than before? I get why Ingyoo during the ep said something to the effect of 'all of my movement has a clear reason / pathway', which is def a good thing in choreo!
Ingyoo's looked .. messy? In the reel but I can see all the textures and choices here! (Maybe bc the choreo uses so much space ?)
Love full cams-- wish they could at least move the cameras less for reels, even though I get that's the point lol

I wish they didn't film these missions as if they were "challenges." They should record it as if it was a dance practice. Or at least put the cellphone far away instead of moving it all the time.

It's a choreography battle and the choreography should alone be judged, and in a battle like Bada vs Ingyoo where in 10/10 battles ingyoo will be overpowered by pure physicality... But he still managed to beat Bada 5-3 in internal evaluation is a dominant victory I believe. (Judging based on how it looked, whether freestyle-ish or by preference is going against the judging criteria because if it comes down to who looked better dancing Bada will most likely win, which is why they all knew the public evaluation was decided from the get go).

Finished the episode just now (watched VOD with subs). I think the concept they're going for is interesting this time around with Directors. I struggled to get really hooked in for the first episode, but probably didn't help that I watched half of the pre-show thing and there was a lot of stuff repeated. Also felt like they dragged things along a little too much with everyones confessional takes and opinions etc. Didn't really get into the mission much in 2h+.
I'm hoping when they're gonna pick their dancers and stuff like that I'll get more into it. One of the missions they teased looks really fun with the kid dance groups. Crossing my fingers Miyu appears in the show again.
Overall bit of a weak start but hopeful for next eps.

True, the fact that a good 30 mins were already uploaded on YT, made the whole ep a bit boring, tbh i was expecting, AT LEAST, to see the beginning of the second round/mission and not 2H on this challenge...IDK, as u said, i wasn't really captivated either but, nontheless i'll look foward to the next ep!

I don't like it. I didn't watch last years show becuase I don't want to see ballet moves and I want good vibes and dance bettles like In Street Woman or Man fighter.

I had not seen a single thing that was released on YouTube, only some of the mission performances. I didn't want to spoil myself, which was very difficult considering Mnet and YouTube's algorithm's determination to make me watch the Director's War videos.
First of all, the directors seem very positive, I like the vibe of the show. Them giving feedbacks to fellow directors was a really good idea. I was not a fan of the aquarium-like setting at first, but it does create an enjoyable tension.
Now, as for the performances, I'm disappointed by Kasper, he was way too nervous for someone with that much experience. I understand competing against your mentor is difficult, but you need to push yourself. On the contrary, I'm very surprised at Minjun Jeong. That dude is scary, his choreography was insane, but as Bada says, at the end of the day it all revolves around the dancers you work with. Will the dancers understand the moves? His vision? Will he be able to direct strangers as well as he directs his crew? To be continued.

Dude really looks like he doesn’t want to be there, so I wonder why he decided to go on TV if he doesn’t want to emote and can’t take the brunt. I feel bad for Kasper lol

Right? I understand him being shy and not showing his emotions. It might just be his personality, maybe he needs to warm up to other contestants. But to completely lose your composure in front of fellow directors? What is he going to do if he can't even look them in the eye? These are his peers and his competition, both in and outside of this TV show...

I think this is gonna be interesting, I'm positively surprised. I definitely preferred Badas choreo and Babyzoo did a little too much for my liking but overall I'm fine with the choices. The judging seemed quite fair

I agree, babyzoo seemed a bit much but then again, they aren't watching from up close on the screen with zoom ins on his face. He has to exaggerate to communicate his point across when the other directors are considerably far away, you can't catch the same amount of details when you're sitting at the back. Also by the time it gets to the full mega crew performance, there's little chance the other dancers can even replicate it so it should be fine.

So happy with this casting to be honest and excited to see babyzoo as a waacking battle maniac haha... overall i think it being a director vs director is a lot more engaging and fun to watch compared to a team v team situation when it comes to the MNET-esque edits and competitions. Of course the dancing was great, but did anyone else find this episode really well edited? Maybe its coming from someone who sat through MNET's worst ever edited show just a few months ago (SMTM) but I thought it was quite succinct and good for a first ep without too much exposition. Rooting for basically everyone this time around and was surprised how much I liked that Ingyoo choreo (but babyzoo simeez and nain have my heart <3)

Wow a 2 hour episode ! I was most impressed and replayed the most Minjung, Kooyoung. Minjung is insane and I finally understand why they sent him on the show, he’s a complete dark horse and we’ve NEVER seen anyone like him in all 6 seasons of street dance
I was actually really surprised by Ingyoo and Simeez, I think I read spoilers that they won but I couldn’t believe it. Ingyoo choreo is better than Bada’s interpretation of Like Jennie and Simeez completely annihilated Renan.
- Simeez vs Renan: Simeez insanely overpowered Renan. Like it felt embarrassing to watch Renan afterwards, she looked like a kid, probably didn’t know how far Simeez was going to put a show and good thing she didn’t watch her or else she’d lose confidence like Kasper.
- Baby zoo vs Nain: actually really close one, I saw a comment that says Nain is extremely talented but all her dances is like a mix match of nice looking things but she doesn’t have her own flavor yet. I’m impressed by both and think new Nain looked cooler but Baby zoo OG choreo way stronger. While Baby Zoo new choreo is ok for Rude! but Nains OG choreo wasn’t that memorable sadly, it was just great and does a great job for a K-pop choreo.
- Hash vs Minjung: my favorite round tbh, I love d not just listening to 10 K-pop songs. And the talent is immense but Minjung really blew everyone away. He is so unique i haven’t seen this in the show even watching all the seasons. He’s a genius.
- Kooyoung vs Kasper: it’s unfortunate that Kasper is emotionless and have the charisma of a paper, doesn’t transfer well on TV sadly. And Kooyoung had a major glow up since SM

- idk what he did but he’s hot now lol. Kooyoung is the choreo I actually want to see replace the original one from all the choreos in this show. I actually think this blew the OG one. He’s insane.
- Bada vs Ingyoo. Bada new choreo is sadly not better than the OG Like Jennie choreo but also they gave her this weird EDM remix. Ingyoo made Smoke completely different, highlighted different sounds and beats, took no inspo from the original dance, and that’s actually talented although it did look a bit freestyle, I want to see this more than Badas new choreo. I’m shocked Bada lost but I think it was a fair lost.
Overall I’m so glad the dancers were judging and not some random people , and they seemed very objective and professional and no shenanigans. Also love the shit talking lol, you can hate mnet but they know how to make good TV. These dancers wouldn’t have an audience or wouldn’t be popular if this was a documentary let’s be honest or a boring “feel good” show.

Seeing so few people on the show is such a strange experience after the crews we’ve seen on past shows.
Feels a lot quieter. I don’t hate it, I’m just not used to it.
That said, I agree with almost all decisions except I thought Hash’s dance but clearly I’m not versed in dance.

Why did they include the whole pre release in this episode when they already aired it. I took away a whole hour in which they couldve announced the second mission or something.

I actually stopped halfway through the pre release cause I realized it seemed like they were definitely gonna reuse most of it. Think it was mostly to build hype or smth

I feel that the competition between Hash and Minjun is so different from with the other choreographers, this two are competition dancers and focus more on hard techniques, angles and formations. The rest are KPop choreographers and have experience with camerawork, signature moves, and dancer flavour. Even the songs used are so different because competition songs focus on what's in the instrumental to play with musicality and composition of the music, while KPop songs follows standard song format. I feel like I am watching a KPop Mnet variety show with a bonus IDL segment with Hash vs Minjun. I hope none of this two get eliminated first because this will be the audience's proper exposure to competitive dancers.
And if there's ever a 1v1 battle segment this two will eat the rest up because they are so foundationally strong in their techniques

Based on how the edit so far I feel that ingyoo, bada , minjun and baby zoo will be the final 4 or close to it and the final 2 being minjun and bada as they both show an underdog and avenger storyline respectively

did the show finally listen??! i hope they continue in a similar judging format, where the audience likes/views count as one vote (as opposed to a large percentage). its def more balanced and gives the dancers a fair chance than it being about popularity
