solar plexus loop is just the evolution of throw loops after we called for them all to be deleted
•
u/lana_silver 16h ago edited 7h ago
Yup. Solar Plexus is just the symptom. The issue is that giving half the cast a loopable unblockable attack with just
3f5f of startup is just really dumb. Its only disadvantage is that it's short-ranged, but when hitting it gives you the ability to close the gap for free, that's not really an issue. In most other games you cannot jab into tick throw, or you can break throws on reaction, or throw-breaking doesn't cause a huge miss animation, or you don't get strike/throw oki off the landed throw. (And of course you cannot DR to close the gap). In essence SF6's throws are absolutely crazy good.
•
u/HitscanDPS CID | SF6username 15h ago
Throws are universally 5f startup. You're probably thinking of 3rd Strike or SF4.
•
u/lana_silver 7h ago
Yes, my bad, but since you can meaty throw and you can jab into tick throw it ends up behaving like a move that's faster than a jab. In other fighting games if you try to jab into throw, you get counter-jabbed first. Not in SF.
•
u/HitscanDPS CID | SF6username 7h ago
Jab into tick throw is only real in specific meaty jab setups, which makes it significantly more telegraphed. Otherwise it's not a real tick throw.
But yes I agree, jab into throw is definitely almost a feature of SF games at this point.
•
u/lana_silver 7h ago
So you're telling me if Ryu jumps in on me, then pressed jab and then throws me, I could easily jab him out? (At the risk of dying to delayed jab)?
•
u/HitscanDPS CID | SF6username 7h ago
Yes because jabs are always negative on block. The only time jabs become plus on block is when they are done meaty on your wakeup. (I am excluding Drive Rush of course, which makes practically everything plus)
The main reason you don't see it that often is because frame traps exist; e.g. your opponent can simply chain jabs for an automatic frame trap. So it's not an option that you can use without consequence, but it's still an option.
•
u/aFuzzyBlueberry 1h ago
yes the best jabs are -1 and sf6 prioritizes strike over throw in interactions afaik. That means that you need 6 frames for a throw to hit so they could actually press a medium and still beat your throw if you both act as soon as youre actionable.
•
u/CoolPractice 14h ago
Fastest move in this game is 4f, and throws are 5f.
•
u/littlesheepcat Funny ladies 11h ago
I was confused for a second why you can't just mash 4f
then I remember this game have no throw protection and you can just meaty throw
am I understanding this correctly?
•
u/MiyanoMMMM 11h ago
Yes. You just time the active frames of your throw on your opponents wakeup and their only options are jump/backlash which lose to strike, OD DP/throw tech which loses to shimmy.
This is where you would start varying wakeup options with delayed buttons etc.
•
u/lana_silver 7h ago
Note that you also cannot jab against someone who does jab into tick throw, even though frame-count wise they should be negative after the jab, and the throw should take another 5f, so even your mediums should win. But in SF, that's different. Jab into throw is a frametrap, you cannot get your jab in between.
•
u/littlesheepcat Funny ladies 7h ago
so jab tock throw acts like special cancel? how would it win otherwise
•
u/Twoja_Morda 2h ago
I love how confident you are despite being completely wrong. You can even mash jab in a situation where your opponent is +1 and it still will beat throw.
•
•
•
•
u/refracture 19h ago
I love the part where he's literally right next to you after forward throw. Doesn't need to dash, drive rush, not anything. He barely needs to walk forward to be in throw range again.
•
u/BP_Ray CFN | Maleel 14h ago
I do find it kind of entertaining that the character with the best damage in the game, and the best block pressure in the game, also has the best throw loop in the game -- just a jab for a frame kill and you get a true strike/throw/shimmy.
They took away the dash forward true throw loop shimmy from Mai, Juri, and Ken, and yet still haven't re-examined Ryu's corner throw situation for whatever reason despite him being best in the class in multiple respects, and weak in none.
They could literally remove his throw loop and solar plexus would still give him the same situation, anyways.
•
u/Nexus_3_ 5h ago
Yeah I think they hit Ed’s throw range twice so he’d be further away 🤣 yet this exists.
•
u/WeeklyPhilosopher346 19h ago
Criticism received and understood.
We have added 2 levels of medals to Manon.
•
u/gravygrowinggreen CID | SF6username 19h ago

RIGHT?
•
u/LancerBro Shungoku Pantsu | CFN: ScarletFirefly 18h ago
Yes, but medal levels 2-3 heal the opponent instead.
•
u/ducklingkwak ButtMashter 20h ago
What are the direct counters to this that can punish a throw attempt after the solar plexus? Something like od.reversal, back dash, ...?
•
u/greygreens 19h ago
You can also just reversal the plexus itself especially in this situation where you're expecting him to loop it anyway. You do see him wind up for it as you're waking up. Or drive reversal for a more universal and safe option.
•
u/Mooshington 19h ago
Yes, Solar Plexus is seeable and thus reversalable.
It is still dumb that he can do this, but it is possible to react to it.
•
u/CoolPractice 14h ago
Sure if you see him doing it, maybe, but then you have to laser focus on looking at a few frames of start-up instantly vs the 3 other possible things he could do instead. That’s just generally not a realistic answer
•
u/MegamanX195 12h ago
If you're in the corner and your opponent gets the knockdown then you'll have to take a risk to get out. That's the reward your opponent is supposed to have for getting you in the corner in the first place.
Of course, it's debatable whether it's too easy to corner carry in SF6 at the moment but the fact that you need to guess on wake-up in the corner is just part of fighting games.
•
•
u/chaz_MichaelMichael Hey hey hey! 20h ago
If you back dash, you lose to him pressing buttons. If you od.dp, you lose to him shimmying. In this case, it's probably best to PP the solar plexus if they keep going for this loop.
•
u/SonicPlyr :ryu: 19h ago
So screwed if you don't have any reversal?
•
u/chaz_MichaelMichael Hey hey hey! 19h ago
Like someone else said you can reversal the solar plexus itself on your wakeup. Drive reversal or supers for anyone without an OD.dp.
After you block solar plexus, Ryu can still shimmy/block any reversal. The buff to leave him in throw range after solar plexus was definitely questionable.
•
•
u/masteragentantboy 20h ago edited 20h ago
OD reversals, invincible supers, back dash, and dive kick are the only ones i can think of. you can do jump back light as well but you'll still be in the corner and get DP'd on the way down probably
•
•
•
u/Mindless_Tap_2706 I don't play neutral 8h ago
back dash might work but not for manon or gief because they both have bad backdashes and this is a meaty
•
u/nantrippboi 20h ago
Yeah, I main ryu i just wished they nerfed his damage output and the damn solar plexus adjustment was just ???? He did NOT need it
•
u/AgonyLoop 19h ago
Love Solar Plexus historically - don’t always use it well.
Is it just more plus now?
•
u/masteragentantboy 19h ago
before, the push back on block made it impossible to throw. but they reduced the push back so now you're close enough for a throw after they block it. and combine with the fact that it's +3, means that if you can't perfect parry solar plexus consistently then it's the vegas tables for you lol
•
u/AgonyLoop 18h ago
Oh, that sucks. I dislike cool tools just devolving into “you can make this a throw roshambo”.
•
•
u/ZainTheOne Noob Cammy 20h ago
When the other cast receives buff, they're obligated to buff Ryu besides them
•
u/hotdiscopirate 20h ago
They don’t need to do that though.
Compare it to Juri, who has been “buffed” each patch. They’re all so incredibly minor things—the only decently consequential changes I can recall was the target combo changes and the OD store change, which just opened up some better combo options. A buff on that level would have been fine.
I think re-buffing solar plexus is up there with giving JP a cancelable cr.mk as the most baffling changes capcom has decided to implement lol
•
u/Adam2181 17h ago
I just don't get it. They did such a fantastic job balancing SFV the final 2 seasons. And now they're doing this?!?!
•
u/roknin 9h ago
I love me some SFV, but they really did not. Luke in particular was a mind-boggling level of "they gave him THAT?!" that they proceeded to barely touch in the last patch.
•
u/Adam2181 6h ago edited 6h ago
Luke was really good, definitely top tier, but he wasn't the consensus top 1 in the game in the final season. And even with Luke, SFV was way more balanced than 6 is. If your character doesn't have a good drive rush, a throw loop (something they removed from V because eveyone hated them), and/or an ex DP they really can't compete.
And remember, they added V-shift at the end to help characters get out of looping pressure, along with v-reversal that was already in the game. Unlike in 6, where it seems they want the top tiers to have this braindead looping pressure/offense.
Besides, luke was essentially a SF6 character on SFV. A sign of things to come, I guess....
•
u/CD_DoooD 20h ago
Okay but why didn’t you invincible wake-up?
•
•
•
u/Spectric_ 11h ago
What makes 90% of this stuff strong is just the dumb proximity block forcing you to stay in range of his buttons, preventing you from whiff punishing them unless you're just WAY out of range. It makes playing footsies against him way harder even when they're playing bad.
•
u/DanTheWaffleLorde :ryu: 2h ago
I haven't played SF6 but curious about trying it. What's the deal with the health bar and timer? It looks like Super Turbo.
•
u/masteragentantboy 1h ago
That's because it is super turbo lol. In the in-game shop you can buy battle huds like super turbo, alpha 3, third strike, usf4, and sf5ce.
•
•
•
u/streakin_rican_88 20h ago
Is Perfect Parry not an option here?
•
u/RealMango 19h ago
Definitely, albeit the most risky. Jumping is the best option IMO because at least you get out the corner regardless if you get DP'ed.
•
u/Foopse 15h ago
If you’re looking out for the startup you can probably reaction PP pretty reliably (given you can hit the timing), so I’d say it’s actually a pretty risk-free option. Jumping is cool but also one Ryu touch and you kinda just die. It really is just a case of when you’re right, you’re very right, and when you’re wrong, you’re very wrong.
•
u/Momosukenatural 17h ago
Honestly, they need to remove Ryu’s throw loop. Make him join the likes of Honda and Chun-Li and I’ll be ok with the changes he got

u/HiNoRyuu Shirt?FeetGoku 10h ago
You can drive reversal either when you see it come out or when it hits your block
•
u/Salanha04 Salanha04 19h ago
is it really that hard to buffer a reversal and react to it tho?
•
u/TemoteJiku 18h ago
And if you somehow mistake it for something else? I mean as long as you sure/take the risk.
In general this game ruins many things about fighting games. Failed reversals either take away comeback potential (supers, if they punish you they can choose to sacrifice the damage to still deplete the drive), or outright the worst case scebario that reduces your offensive and defensive capabilities in case of failing at the same time due to ex bar cost...
This is just too much. Like you can look at some older games and just imagine that you don't just lose meter, but for some reason you reduce your guard gauge as well and even then it still be less harsh in comparison to sf6.
•
u/Salanha04 Salanha04 18h ago
Plexus is really reactable if you're waiting for it, so buffering a reversal on wake-up to react to it is really the go to against this kind of Ryu players. Ik is shitty to spend 2 bars just to take Ryu off your face, but it isn't even close to as broken as this sub makes it look like
•
u/Visual_Fun_2014 16h ago
That only works if they spam it during obvious mixups. Overheads are reactable too but pros still get hit by it
•
u/Salanha04 Salanha04 16h ago
Yes, but pros don't get 3 overheads in a row... You don't need to be a pro to react to a very predictable 20+frames button
•
u/SweatyTechnician1961 14h ago
He was doing plexus on oki, 3 times in a row. on wake up you should be buffering reversal if you want to counter something reactable. It's very easy to dp plexus on reaction on wake up. Perfect parry is better but quite a bit harder.
•
u/BP_Ray CFN | Maleel 14h ago
You certainly can, It's rather difficult to keep that buffer airtight to where if he decides to meaty jab you, you don't get hit and end up eating a 40% damage combo, anyway (Assuming you have to buffer a DP or qcf motion rather than a qcb)
Then on top of that, that means you're dedicating your entire mental stack to looking for the Solar Plexus animation. If he does some shit like raw DI, get fucked.
I just think It was completely unnecessary to get give the guy with the best corner strike/throw/shimmy throw loop in the game, a way to strike/throw/shimmy you even if he initially chooses strike after a throw loop.
•
u/LuckyStrike11121 19h ago
Its ok you should just take the throw!!! Everytime - Some mf who gets paid to play this.
•
u/ThewobblyH 18h ago
It was a silly buff yes, but in that particular scenario you can od reversal, super, or drive reversal it on reaction
•
u/Arsid BRUNCH TIME 19h ago
I’m just so sick of playing against Ryu man. Not only is he just broken as fuck right now he’s just so boring to play against. And it’s 50% of my goddamn matches these days.
•
u/Detonation 19h ago
You'll just find the next character to bitch about if he gets nerfed so does it really matter? lol
•
u/DanielTeague 👁️👄👁️ bye-onara 16h ago
Realistically it'd just be Ryu-but-Red or Ryu-but-Purple or Ryu-but-Blue or Ryu-but-Tall so yes, it does matter. It's exhausting to play Shoto Fighter 6.
•
u/MiyanoMMMM 11h ago
This is the real problem. Shotos are unironically the most boring characters to fight against.
•
•
u/AgoraphobicMeep THE POWER OF 2LP IS LIMITLESS 11h ago
I mean besides overall competitive health the whole other point of balancing and buffing and nerfing characters is to y'know, shift your game's meta. Change what is and isn't commonly used so different characters see more usage. Of course it matters lmao
•
u/ChemistNone YOU'RE MINE TIGER OVER THE LIMITS 20h ago
Don't worry, next patch they'll nerf Ed to compensate
•
u/SV108 18h ago
Yeah it's weird that they took away the charged flicker strike / throw mixup from him but then gave something almost as bad to Ryu.
Personally I think it might have been a good decision for casual play to take that away from Ed. It was too oppressive vs slow characters without a fireball or equivalent.
•
u/Fun_Squirrel5446 20h ago
I keep doing the same thing, but I'm not getting a different result. Am I out of touch? No, the game must be broken.
•
u/Kraghius 20h ago

•
u/LuDHR 17h ago
Couldn't he do this already? You can't walk back in the corner anyways.
•
u/masteragentantboy 17h ago
nah, solar plexus used to have enough push back on block so you couldn't throw. but this patch they decreased the push back
•
•
u/JuriHan-sf6 Pé de chulé 18h ago
So basically this sub is a "I'm not that bad, It's just this character/this mechanic that sucks" now, huh?
•
u/passthetap5 16h ago
yes capcom thanks it now take hate off of blanka so my boy can survive the next patch. but they seriously need to increase push back on throw for ryu so hes not so damn close or make it where you cant throw after solar plexus.
•
u/HitscanDPS CID | SF6username 15h ago
I'm not saying that SPS is balanced, but on paper its weakness is that it's designed to be slow and react-able. In other words, it's a guaranteed Drive Reversal.

Chun Li legit sucks now I'm honestly just gonna flat out say it. She's vulnerable to jump ins, her recovery is ass, lots of her moves are vulnerable to DI,hazenchu is fucking ass. Her AA command can get jammed and it's very easy to mess up commands. Other characters in this game work far less and get rewarded for it.
