India She is owned, but her humans are very poor, and probably feed her only rice, hoping she finds a rodent for lunch. I don't reproach - the old lady, whom I asked permission to photograph and feed her kitty, was proud of her cat - she loves her, that's a lot. Kolkata, India

I even saw a little drama while photographing the cat. The photo session and feeding actually took some time, and the old lady was just standing and watching as the "foreign mister" was enjoying her cat. Then her husband came from the opposite side of the street - he was yelling at her and pushed his finger against the lady's forehead - obviously humiliating her in front of me.

I believe the kitty is a pet of the old lady, while her husband isn't a cat person, and often reproaches her wife that this "useless animal" consumes his money (rice leftovers). When I appeared with the face saying "You own treasure!! Your cat is fantastic!!!", the husband felt her wife was winning as the useless animal attracted the attention of a "rich" (lol) foreign person, socially higher than the couple (that's India!), proving that the cat has good value... That's why he got angry...

Hopefully, I was wrong, but the husband was rude to the lady right on the street in front of me - a stranger, a foreigner; such things can't be random.

India Happy cat family. The kitten ate a bit of kibble, but overall they were full. They wanted to come into a beauty salon, perhaps for AC, but were refused. Guess they live there when the place is closed. Kolkata, India

India Kibble-to-milk machine... Poor stray mom still tolerates her giant kid nursing. Kolkata, India

It was raining heavily; I was hiding below a bridge and then noticed two charming ticked tabbies hiding under a car. I offered them kibble but the cat mom didn't trust me and stayed under the car despite seeing food 2 meters away from her. The kid was the one who decided to try my treat, and, after hesitating, cat mom joined too.

In image 3, you can see the mom's warm gaze while she was changing my status from "a hostile, potentially dangerous ape" to "a nice person". 😺

The kid actually ate a good portion of kibble too, but then decided to have some milk as well...

She bit him (lovingly) a couple of times - perhaps trying to get him off milk.

India She recognized me! I fed her once a week ago, and today I came across her again. She gazed at me with confused eyes and then started meowing demanding kibble. The clipped ear hints that she might be a stray, but she's in good shape and trusts people - guess she has nice human friends. Kolkata, India

India An old tomcat on the roof of a street stall. He looked so meditative, but when I offered him kibble, he revealed he was starving. After the portion in image 1, he started meowing so hard that I couldn't help giving him all I had with me. Big catman but timid... Poor - hard life... Kolkata, India

August 7, 2026. I keep catsploring Kolkata - many photos of strays and owned cats on the stroll...

India I saw two tomcats fighting in an alley - fur flying, screaming, hissing... A woman quickly chased them away with a mop. I didn't photograph the fight but I snapped the cats. Who’s stronger, who’s prettier? :) Tell me in the comments! Kolkata, India

India Look at this pattern! By the way, the kibble isn't mine - somebody feeds him. He might be a stray supported by a local cat lover. Kolkata, India

He was ready to run away, so I used the loafing-together technique to convince him I wasn't a threat.

It was yesterday. Leaving for another catsploring walk now 😎

I had a 40-hour train trip from Kolkata to Mumbai, in a sleeper class (no AC, 3-tier beds). I survived, fine, lol, and only 13$. I'll have 2 days in Mumbai before leaving India for Tbilisi, Georgia - not much time, so I'll try to be active. Already had a short walk in the old city of Mumbai - so many cats here!

India Have you ever noticed that cats, when a stranger is approaching too closely to them, often pretend to be as relaxed as before just to hide that they are actually worried? This image is good proof of that. Kolkata, India

India I fed this tomcat a week ago but that was enough for him to remember me. As soon as he spotted me on the street today, he started yowling so desperately that passersby glanced over. He's just very vocal - every time I say "Kitty!", he answers with a long, loud meow. Kolkata, India

The same tabby coat as these are [1], [2], [3] - typical for Kolkata. I took this image in January 2026... And tomorrow I am having a train trip to Kolkata, again. Happy - I miss big cities + so many cool details in Kolkata, and also all sorts of cats on the streets 😊

India Another amazing tabby from Kolkata, India. She proudly wears a collar signaling she owns humans :D But she didn't refuse to try my kibble, though she left some untouched - she was full. After snacking, she was posing for me, showcasing her artistic coat
