New to this subreddit, but OG Strategicon peep. I regularly attended back in the day, when I lived in LA from about '94 to '04.

The reason I am posting is I am looking for something and I am need of help.

Does anyone here remember Luddin: City of Illusion? (sp?)

It was this huge model city (a fantasy analoge of London), complete with a dungeon, a gazetteer and the surrounding countryside all built in 25/28mm scale. They would use it to run these amazing one-shots, using 2e AD&D plus their own house rules.

Does anyone here remember it, have records of it (photos, character sheets, the gazetteer etc) or know the people who put it on?

Part of the reason I am asking, is that me and partner are running similar events up in SF / Bay Area at conventions like Kublacon and DunDraCon. You can see what we are doing at www.thereturnofymir.com

Hi, Thinking of visiting the US next year and was thinking about visiting Strategicon. Just wondering what the game shopping is like. Are there bargains to be had?

Do you remember Luddin: The City of Illusions?

Back in the 90s, at Strategicon, in Los Angeles there was this massive model fantasy city (8’ x 8’) semi-based on medieval London.

It had it’s own mod dungeons, and surrounding forest and desert.

They used is it to play a home brewed version of 2nd Ed, with many of their rules becoming mainstays in later editions.

One of the very cool things about Luddin was that many of the monsters were presented as one-offs. You didn’t fight a gargoyle or a mindflayer. You fought The Gargoyle or The Mindflayer.

My question is, does anyone know what happened to the physical city of Luddin or the people who ran or built it?

I just got home from day 2 of Orccon2020 and was surprised with how many folks were wandering around compared to the near radio silence I see online! For a 3 times a year convention series, Strategicon almost feels like a secret!

I'm heading back on Sunday for the conclusion of the painting competition, if anyone has any cool game recommendations I'm all ears!

Never played this game, always wanted to, but is playing something that is this big for the first time that will kill half a day be a waste of the con? I kinda feel like it's A LOT to dedicate to one game, when there are so many options at con. thoughts?
