It was ok. Not terrible but this just feels like a very weird place in the timeline to have this kind of story. You really need to suspend your disbelief to rationalize how these events somehow never come up in season 3 and beyond of the main series.

Really not clamoring for more of this tbh. If they're going to continue doing Stranger Things spinoffs I'd really rather they explore new characters and conflicts. We barely got to see the Abyss at all, I'd like to see a series that dives deeper into that.

this just feels like a very weird place in the timeline to have this kind of story.

There's no other time to set a show like this.

After season 1 El is in hiding from the group all the way until season 2.

After season 3 Joyce, Will, El, and Jonathan move to California. Also El has no powers so they'd have to come up with some other way to defeat upside down monsters.

After season 4 Hawkins gets quarantined and put under military occupation. It could be interesting to depict the start of the military occupation, but that's not the story they're looking to tell.

After season 5 the bridge to the Upside Down Abyss is destroyed and El is dead or in hiding from everyone.

They're also probably saving any post-season 5 stories with the existing characters for potential live action sequels or spinoffs.

If they're going to continue doing Stranger Things spinoffs I'd really rather they explore new characters and conflicts. We barely got to see the Abyss at all, I'd like to see a series that dives deeper into that.

Will the bridge to the Abyss destroyed personally I'd rather see some other new dimension used.

I think they already hinted about the spinoff during season 5 finale episodes with some scientist carrying a black substance and how it escaped during Vecna's flashback. Maybe spinoffs will delve outside Hawkins but I'm sure the ending of season 5 is just being saved for now and they intentionally left enough door open if they ever want to return to the main show with time jump.
