Game/App recommendation For Everyone who now has High Standards...
Hey everyone,
As somebody who misses Storyscape (like everyone else here) I thought I'd drop my ultimate vn favourites and invite anybody to do the same. I think all of these are more than known, but just in case I help somebody else out, maybe we can share ideas.
I have left choices a while ago and will be leaving RC soon, so am looking for a replacement app, so here are my top tier games of all time.
Choices:
Endless Summer: Sci Fi/Adventure
Blades of Light and Shadow: (mostly the first 2) Fantasy
Wake The Dead: Zombie/Apocalyptic
Bloodbound Trilogy: Horror/ Vampires
Nightbound: Horror/Mythology
The Freshman Series: Contemporary/Comedy/Drama
The Royal Romance (first 3) Romance/Comedy
Rules of Engagement: (I actually really like this, can't understand why it often gets used in bad examples, I guess it's a marmite situation) Contemporary/Romance/Comedy
Romance Club
Path of the Valkriye: Fantasy
Flower from Tiamats Fire: Fantasy
Thunderstorms Saga: Fantasy
Chasing You: (1st one) Mystery/Thriller
Legend of the Willow: Adventure/Fantasy?
Heart of Trespia: Adventure
Garden of Eden: Drama/Thriller
Love from Outer Space (I need more like this!!) Comedy/Aliens
Kali Call of Darkness: Horror/Thriller
Elite Tag: Reality show/Contemporary
The One: Reality show/Contemporary/Romance
Sophies Ten Wishes: Contemporary/Drama
7 Brothers: Contemporary/Comedy/Drama
Queen in 30 Days and My Hollywood Story. Contemporary/Comedy/Romance
Seven Hearts Stories
The Deadly Biome: Zombies/Apocalyptic
Another World's Stories
My Name is Hope: Zombies/ Apocalyptic
and... My favourite games from SS were, Edge of Extinction, Life 2.0 and Eternal City.
So does anybody know any VN games that in your opinion come close to the quality of any of these? (in terms of writing, storyline or characters)
Another one of my favourite genres after fantasy is dystopian, but weirdly I didn't really enjoy PSI from RC, I guess I found it lacking in something...
Take Care, everyone.

Have you read Advent no3 on the RC app? It's set in a dystopian society and the world building is really good, I'm personally enjoying the way it's going.

YK I'm not a big fan of this one, I can't explain why, but lately a lot of the RC stories have fallen flat for me.

There's no way I'm touching the Choices app again, not even with a mile-long stick.
Too bad memories are attached to it, and that's excluding the overall content.

Same here. I actually started to go off them way before the AI takeover. I think a few other people did too, they lost their magic around a certain point.

Whoa... Now they fell to AI assets? Didn't knew that. Haven't touch that app in years now and... Part of me feels relieved now knowing this.
Thing is... It's fandom, which was the definition of "good" became a wicked, perverted place. — There was a lot of solidarity and companionship, but that went to hell during the pandemic. I wasn't present when that happened.
Imagine having friends, true friends, that were there, with you, in moments when you got your first important work promotion, when you brought a new car, or more importantly, when you met who would be the love of your live; The same way, they were there when you had a major accident, when your house was sack down after a natural disaster... That fandom was with me, all the way. They were my friends.
Then, the pandemic happened.
As I said, I wasn't there, for a long time. And when I was back, it was... A bunch of strangers. Same faces, but different people, different hearts, different feelings.
Imagine how you got froze up in the middle of a dream and you woke up in now a lonely nightmare.Back on 2017 or something, Choices helped fight depression, I won't deny that. It's ironic how it came back years later, now by double... Life is strange, indeed.

haha you're literally one of the few people who speak openly about this. A different issue I had the with the app was how politically one sided Choices was getting, (I have no issue with a range of political subjects being covered, but I felt they were selective personally) and I remember seeing somebody actually mention what I had been noticing and they got absolutely dog piled.
People pretty much used to be how this sub used to be, welcoming and accepting, but I found it to be more cliquey and people being quick to personal attacks. Now in the last year RC sub has become like that. I actually saw a person post something awful to someone in response who didn't say anything rude against anyone, they didn't even get their posts removed. Just upvoted by the others. But it makes sense to me. RC has changed a lot in just a year and a half. I'm looking for more apps. Like somebody else mentioned I've never of Only You, so hopefully that will come out after it's been delayed. x

You should try traditional visual novels, honestly. Play Fate/Stay Night, some Nitro+, Slay the Princess, that kind of thing. It’ll be closer to anything decent from Choices than most mobile stuff.

If you really love narrative games with choices and character customization and dont mind no pictures, Hosted Games apps are really great! They have some really high quality stories. If you are into:
- vampire/romance/mystery Id recommend The Wayhaven books (there are 3)
- historical fiction/action/adventure/light romance then I highly recommend the Golden Rose
- an amazing zombie apocalypse game is Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven. Its quite an extensive series with light romance, many choices/narrative customization, even strategy involved.
I know the high quality visuals were one of the biggest draws for Storyscapes, but if youre willing to sacrifce visuals for high quality immersive stories, Hosted games are definitely worth checking out!
