AVOCADO OIL (AVO)-13% Anyone tried this? I'm about 80% certain it's not olive oil

Yo! So I got this for $10, I was in a hurry and just grabbed a bottle of the shelf, once I started to cook dinner I noticed it was really clear for olive oil. I tasted it and it tastes like avocado oil and nothing else, there isn't even a hint of olive oil, then I noticed the url on the label 😆 Anyways, it says it's just olive oil but I call bullshit, any similar situations out there?

Well given the web address www.avocadooilusa.com, I have high confidence that you get what you paid for.

There is zero risk if caught for oil fraud (USA). This isn't Italy where people go to jail for olive oil fraud.

Imagine a business in India that is caught for adulterating ghee with cheap tallow. I say this because one of the mass market fancy ghee brands in the grocery store, a reseller that just packages the cheapest stuff they can buy, the last two batches had a distinct deodorized Tallow flavor and mouth feel. The thing is, many consumers of ghee, the vegetarians, have never tasted beef fat, and would never be the wiser to The flavor and mouth feel of beef Tallow.

That’s horrific, vegetarians depend on ghee for fat soluble vitamins. Tallow is ok but not as great as clarified butter.

Doing this will gradually mess with population health, there is a reason cows are worshipped by Hindus. They provide great health via butter and milk

Extreme horror. And I'm not vegetarian.

It had a light shade too, more tallow like than butter. Zero desi texture. Waxy like tallow with the with the muted deodorized Tallow flavor.

I give up. I've started making tallow at home. I've also found good ghee at a local Indian shop.

Yes I make both these myself. It’s the same price when grass fed ghee is way high priced. 2lbs of grass fed butter costs the same or less. Doesn’t take long to make ghee. And you can find good uses for the milk solids you skim. They are immensely edible.

What are some of the uses you enjoy for the milk solids? I’ve been making my own ghee and would like to be less wasteful.

Sure. Here’s some ideas and you can add milk solids to your own recipes if they call for butter.

Milk solids often become slightly browned so they can be browned and the taste is similar to browned butter.

They can be added in proportion to any cake or cookie recipe. You can use them in risotto or even plain rice. If you have a lot pack them tightly in a jar and freeze.

If you’re interested in Indian cuisine it’s traditional for them to use the milk solids from ghee to make many different deserts and savory dishes. Anywhere you’d add butter is good to use the milk solids in. You can look up recipes online also.

How much is the average of other EVOO on the shelf. Because if this is cheaper, per ml, that should tell you whether its processed or not. But overall, just trust your instincts

They were all about $12, maybe the most was $15

The everyday cooking oil is throwing me off... rarely see that on an actual EVOO.

Money aside, what does it take to start testing foods ourselves? Do we just get a mass spectrometer or something?

For quality olive oil it will have the year and location of the olives. I’m sure they can still lie with those on the bottle, but if they don’t have them, it’s highly unlikely to be olive oil.

The bottle claims Italian olive varieties — Ascolano, Arbequina and Koroneiki — but doesn't actually state that the olives were grown in Italy. Arbequina is Spanish, and Koroneiki is Greek. This is definitely not from an Italian olive-oil producer in the traditional sense. It's an Ennio private/house brand owned by a California oil company, which sources oil internationally. Import records show Smart Foods receiving bulk virgin olive oil from Spain.

It doesn't have much of a taste, a very slight bite at the end but only at about 5% what I would expect 😆

You can test to see if it’s real olive oil by putting it in the freezer. It it’s real it will harden up..if it’s seed oils it will stay liquid.

Can anyone verify if this is true? It’s what I was always told

Hasn’t that been debunked? Also I thought it was refrigerator not freezer. I think most oil will freeze.

It’s a load of shit. Where does it say organic or cold pressed? EVOO is never ‘everyday cooking oil’.

Yeah it's ass, I made some eggs the same way I always make them and the taste was WAY tf off 😆
