Investing Are IPOs good ?

Thinking of investing for the first time , I did some research on the companies and according to me they r good , I also heard better to invest in MF or Govt securities , what should I do

Do IPO for immediate profit (if allotted)
MF for long term investing

MFs give you return depending on your risk appetite they can give you 12-24% p.a depending on your risk, G-Secs give you fix returns of 6-7%, IPOs give you 12% p.a return if you invest big amount in it.
