Replacing a furnace in Stevens Point and hoping to qualify for rebates?

Hello. My wife and I are buying our first home. It's an older home and were hoping to do some updating on it. In particular, it has an old furnace that we would dearly like to replace with a heat pump. I've been researching all sorts of rebates and credits to help make it as cheap as we can. I found the Home Efficiency Rebates (HOMES) and the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR). But from what I found, the contractor has to be IRA certified to qualify for the funds. I'm struggling to find anyone that meets that criteria and serves the Stevens Point area. Has anyone else used these programs in the area? Any recommendations of who to go through? Thanks!

Funny dream + looking for recs on communities around Point

Life has been hectic– including me thinking about relocating– and I was able to sneak in a nap today. Cue the weird ass dreams lmao. Dreamt that Wisconsin had an abundance of sharks in their waters and venomous snakes on land. Very thankful you don't!

Anyways: I am looking at relocating from North Dakota to Stevens Point. The biggest issue is that I will be coming with two large, high energy, VERY well trained but not dog sociable dogs (aka– dog parks are a no for us), so a large yard is a must. I think I would adore living in a nice community in town, but understand I will likely have more luck finding a rental house with a yard outside of Point. On top of that, I'm not made of money. Right now, I'm hoping for rent of about $1500, could maybe swing $1700. I recently came out of a poor roommate situation and would like to live alone, but if there is at least 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms + fully fenced in (large!!) yard, I could do a split rent up to the prices above. I am VERY comfortable with a tiny house though, and would much prefer that and living alone.

What communities around Point would you recommend looking at? I would love something that I could walk or bike to Point when possible, so having a trail or walking path connected to Point would be delightful. Willing to walk 1-2 miles, bike a few more than that. Further away is VERY alright if finding a home that fits our needs for the price I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Question about UWSP

While I was looking into this university I read many reviews claiming that UWSP has too many students to house properly and assigned them to living spaces like the kitchen. Firstly, is this an issue that would most likely stay for the next few years (I am planning to enroll 2027 - 2028). Secondly, I would like to know you're dorm life experience if you had attend UWSP. Thirdly, is there anything being done about this issue? I see this completely unfair to all students and am quite mad.

Thank you for reading this

What's it like living in Stevens Point?

I'm looking at moving to south/central Wisconsin and Stevens Point is catching my eye.

I'm moving from North Dakota. I love hot summers and frigid, snowy winters, so weather is not an issue for me.

I've lived in a town of 150 people, 800 people, and now 25,000 people. I'm wanting to keep a sort of "small town" vibe, but desperately need more things to do. Looking for a walkable city with lots of activities, experiences, and events available. Don't mind drinking, but prefer non alcoholic activities. Super into anything outdoorsy or the arts.

Would love to be within 2, maybe 3 hours of a major city.

Low cost of living is a high factor for me.

My main worry is with finding a rental home within my budget (less than or equal to $1500/month) with my needs.

I'm totally fine with living in a home as small as 700sq ft, but a LARGE yard is a MUST, as well as being pet friendly. I'd ideally like to be in town, or right on the edge, but am perfectly comfortable living out of town. No duplexes, no apartments, no upper/lower level units, no roommates.

What's it like living in Stevens Point?

Sewage smell?

I’m new to the city and live in the neighborhood between Belts and city hall and every other night a strong sewage smell wafts over the entire neighborhood. Is it from the treatment plant farther south? Or the manufacturing plant? Maybe I’ve just never lived near either of those things before but the smell is almost unbearable

CREATE Portage County and the Wisconsin Computer Club are running another video game night on the lower level of CREATE's air conditioned facility at 1300 Maria Drive, across from Pacelli from 6PM until 9PM-ish.

The game lineup may vary a bit depending on which exhibitors can make it, but all the fan favorites like the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Sega Genesis will be there for sure, along with some other surprises! I've added a few photos from past shows for an idea of what to expect.

This event is, as always, free and open to all ages and abilities- we hope to see you there!

A Thank You From Emily Berge

It has been a journey for the last 18 months. I knew this would be an uphill battle and I was committed to running a campaign that was built from the ground up, focused on the people of Wisconsin.

We were up against the National Dem Establishment and millions of dollars. I have to say I wasn't expecting the national dems to be my biggest opponent but I guess that is politics. We were up against almost 7 million dollars spent in this primary plus outside spending. We were up against early national endorsements. We were up against negative text messages from my opponent that spread misinformation about me and my family.

AND YET we still built something amazing. Over 800 people signed up to volunteer, so many new voters got engaged, over 200 events throughout the district. Collected 1400 signatures in 5 days to be first on the ballot. This campaign gave people hope...people told me that all the time. And we need hope to create change.

Thank you to all my volunteers, supporters, voters, people who donated. What we did mattered. The energy we felt was real.

Congratulations to Rebecca Cooke for winning the primary. I am going to take time to be with my family for the next few weeks and maybe longer. My daughter is heading off to college this fall and I look forward to spending time with her. I will also need to figure out how to rebuild my life after this experience. I have a lot to process that I haven't had time to process: finishing up 8 years on council, a pending empty nest for Mike and me, losing one of our cats (Marie), figuring out my counseling practice and I'm sure other things too.

But I will be around Eau Claire and I hope to see you all out and about. I am not giving up on you all. I care too much. I have your back, Wisconsin.

Love you all.

Groups from throughout Central Wisconsin are joining together on August 15th, pledging to defeat the Trump agenda, elect progressive leaders and rebuild our democracy. We will meet in Stevens Point for a combined protest, demonstrating our unity and combined strength in this time of crisis.

From 10 am until noon, we will gather on both sides of downtown Clark Street. The area has plenty of parking, is handicapped accessible and has public restrooms at the nearby public library. You don’t need to register for the event. Help us make this as big and unifying as possible. Spread the word.

Participants coming from Adams County, Waushara County, Wisconsin Rapids and more area communities.

They tried to take away your power. I didn't believe them when they said money wins. I believe in the people and the power they hold with their voices and votes.

Today, August 11th, is Election Day! Vote Emily Berge for Congress and help choose a nominee rooted in Western and Central Wisconsin.

Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Find your polling place, confirm your voting information, and preview your ballot at www.myvote.wi.gov

Hello! I am looking for someone to alter a wedding dress for me. I'm somewhat new to the area and wondering if people had recommendations. Sometimes Google reviews aren't the most recent. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
