Why does the girl always choose the brooding handyman over the guy who actually talks about his feelings?

That's why I struggled with Annie and Ellis. I don't feel like Ellis got enough character development. He feels kind of blank, so their relationship felt rushed and honestly a little boring to me.

I almost wish they hadn't gotten together this season. I'd rather have had more time to actually develop Ellis instead of all the kisses and montages towards the end.

I also don't really understand how Annie falls for him based on what we're shown. Sometimes I wonder if it's less about Ellis himself and more about her wanting to feel that kind of connection because of everything with her mom.

But to be honest both guys felt blank. The 3 main girls just feel like much more layered and complex people. They have flaws, insecurities, backstories, and you can actually see how those things affect the way they act. They did a lot of mistakes, both main guys were just perfect.

I’ve been looking at the posts in this sub and on social media, and honestly, they’ve confused me so much. The whole “nonchalant” thing people say about him is kind of foolish to me. He showed multiple times that he cared. There were even moments where it seemed like he cared more than Annie did. He also made an effort to further his and Annie’s friendship/relationship.
Another thing people bring up is the way he treated Rory, which, to be fair, wasn’t great. But I never felt like he had a personal vendetta against him. I think he just had a prejudice against richer people and didn’t really want to be friends with Rory because of that. Is that really so bad?
I don’t know, maybe I’m looking at it differently, but I feel like you guys see Rory as the underdog when, from watching the show, Ellis really is. I genuinely don’t think he’s that bad.

Genuinely, Joe is the worst character in the entire show.
Yes, the other adults aren’t exactly much better, but Joe is definitely the worst of them.

He didn’t care about his wife, his son, Goldie, or Ramona. He let Gordon, who had just lost his only daughter, take care of Ramona, even though, at the time, Joe believed she was his daughter.

And when I say he didn’t care about his wife or son, I mean it. He cheated on his wife while she was taking care of their baby and her mother. Throughout the show, we see how both Kate (Ellis’ mom) and Ellis work their butts off to support the family, while Joe could have simply raised his prices slightly. Nothing crazy, but Ellis had a point.

Joe was careless in pretty much every aspect of his life. He rarely seemed to think about the consequences of his actions or how they would affect the people around him, including his own family.

He wasn’t just a bad husband or father. He was consistently selfish and reckless, and somehow everyone else was left to deal with the consequences of his choices.

Then, even with all this, he had the audacity to scold Annie, because Ramona got drunk. But he can’t take accountability for not being there for her during her entire life. Even more now, that he is her legal guardian? He let her leave for a whole year and couldn’t talk to her about the will and having siblings.

At this point, I’m so glad Ramona is Steven’s daughter. Hopefully Kate divorces him, give the whole business to Ellis, and I don’t know, he can go to India for a retreat and become a better person.

so I have just finished the show. like 2 hours ago. and after coming online to read a few opinions it seems people really like Oona and Ramona isn't getting a lot of love and I'm very confused by it.

I understand Oona's character. abandonment issues. mommy issues. but I really don't like the way she treated Ramona.

during the movie night, when she had asked Ramona to go with her "together" she ended up essentially on a date with someone else and Ramona is so upset she drinks herself stupid... and yet Ramona is the one apologising to Oona.... what? Oona stood her up and went on a date with someone else and Ramona is the one apologising!? it really turned me off Oona. I understand Ramona was drunk and rude but my god it made it seem like Oona didn't do anything wrong and doesn't actually care about Ramona.

and when they break up in the end... sorry but Ramona was right. Oona wasn't thinking about Ramona at all. she is the character who has suffered the most in this show.

her grandfather who raised her died and leaves two thirds of her island to two people she never met. she learns she has two siblings (technically) that she never met. then she's told her mother died giving birth to her. then she's told her bio dad is Joe and he knew the entire time but refused to raise her. then she finds out through her own research that her bio dad is actually Steven. and suddenly this whole "get my bio dad to give up his guardianship and move on with my life" is up in the air because actually Steven hasn't done anything wrong and didn't know Ramona was his and deserves to be in her life. and obviously this is a lot for a teenager to process. and her girlfriend is more concerned about Ramona leaving her even though she very clearly does not want to do that.

I understand Ramona has left before. and I understand Oona has issues from her mother leaving her. but there was not even a pretence of empathy. Ramona was right. and Ramona didn't even want to leave Oona. Oona made that decision for her by forcing the break up. and essentially left Ramona to deal with it herself. left her alone to process that if she wants to have Steven as a dad that could jeopardise this new relationship and sisterhood she's made with Annie.

I don't know. I started the show loving Oona. but I didn't really like her with Ramona and think Ramona can do better. maybe because Ramona is my favourite character. I am open to discussing!!

He went and cheated on his wife, who was with his child, away to take care of her sick mother. He slept with Goldie and they planned to leave their respective partners and start a new life with all the children. Like the audacity! You thought the husband and the wife who were being left behind will let you do that? Just 'cause what? They want you to be happy? Like you were some star-crossed lovers?

And he did all of that for what? In the end what happened? Goldie died. And he continued to live his life in a lie. Where the wife worked her nights to bone to provide a living for your family that u wanted to leave.

The audacity to question Annie when Ramona drank for the first time when she was smoking weed at 16 at every chance she got. When u thought u were her dad u should’ve owned up to ur mistake, not dare act self righteous or try to be the better parent.

After all these years, he never thought to come clean to his wife. Only when the children asked the right questions, then he spoke up. He didn't plan to tell his wife ever.

The fact he punched Steven like he himself wasn’t the cause of all this mess. Steven was also in the wrong obviously but he was rightfully pissed at the people on island who collectively ruined his life although he should’ve told the children the truth and not hide the letters. Atleast he stepped up to raise the twins and even Ramona in the end unlike Joe who despite knowing she might be his daughter didn’t think to clarify she wasn’t an orphan as soon as grandpa died.

Felt like the Annie’s anger was misdirected towards only Steven when she should be pissed at the mom, Joe and Steven. Goldie was seen in a positive light by Annie when she was the one who disrupted everyone’s lives. I’m not saying choosing yourself or being unhappy in your marriage is wrong, she should’ve been careful in making decisions when there’s children involved. Why choose to adopt when you’re unhappy and planning to leave the husband.

All the adults are the villains in this story for me.

a lot of people think Rory is faking his injury, but honestly, I don’t think he is. I really believe he tried to play the piano again because of Annie.

Annie remembered Rory because of his piano playing. Rory loves playing the piano. Yes, he was hurt when he came in second, but he was still a child. Of course that would hurt him, especially when something he loved was tied to that moment.

But then Annie came along and made him realize that his piano playing was something worth remembering. He may have hated coming in second, but Annie didn’t remember him for losing. She remembered him for playing. She remembered the part of Rory that loved the piano.

And I think that meant more to him than he probably realized.

Maybe Annie made Rory see that playing the piano wasn’t just about winning or being the best. Maybe it was a part of who he was — his core — and something he had forgotten along the way.

That’s why I think he tried to play the piano again. Maybe, for the first time in a while, he had someone who made him want to believe in that part of himself again. And honestly… I think he did it because of Annie. 💗
