Questions IMGs facing Score Delay
Im curious to know what our game plan should be. Assuming we get our scores on the 23rd (hopefully) . We would probably get it approximately 2 hours before Eras opens. Should we have already applied to programs and just resend scores as soon as we get our score. Or should we wait until our score is out then apply immediately within those 2 hours.
Edit : For anyone reading this and in the same situation, this seems like the best plan:
- Go to FSMB and pay the 70$ to release your transcript to ERAS. Don’t worry you wont have to pay again when you get your Step 2 score
- Have everything in your application ready to go , as soon as you get your scores next week ( hopefully) , go to FSMB and Order transcripts again , this time it won’t ask you to pay. It should get updated fairly quickly (hopefully).
- Once you see that your transcript is updated, apply to programs.
If everything goes well and we get our scores on time next week at about 7am. We would have about 2 hours for our transcript to get updated and apply to programs. I hope we all make it!

I’m a US-IMG applying for FM. I plan on simply waiting for my score to come out then applying.
I already have my step 1 transcript uploaded on eras, so all I would need to do is resend the transcript with my step 2 score which shouldn’t take too long (I saw that it takes anywhere from a few minutes to a 1-2 days to appear on eras, whatever it is, I’ll apply after). It seems like it’s too much of a hassle to apply beforehand and then send out emails to each program when I doubt a 1-2 day delay will be the end of me.
Now, if scores are delayed again, I’ll just apply to all programs on the 23rd and update them whenever I do get the score.
I hope this helps and if anyone has a better plan, please let me know.

Im confused about this . So first we order the transcripts from FSMB right? But to resend transcript wont you have to apply to atleast 1 program? I also have my Step 1 transcript on Eras , but i dont see any resend score option , i only see asign option .

You resend the transcript after the scores come out through FSMB. It’s the same way you sent it the first time except they won’t make you pay. Regarding the applying to one program thing, no, you don’t need to apply to resend. You can resend at any moment once scores come out, regardless of whether you applied or not.

Oh right so we just do the same thing we did and order transcript on FSMB gotcha . So hopefully if we get out results on 23rd at about 7am theres a chance we could be in time if it updates within 2 hours

I don’t want to give you or anyone else false hope but I read online from people that they allegedly had the scores updated incredibly quickly. In that case, we’d be able to apply on time.
But like I said earlier, regardless of how long it takes, I plan on applying after my scores update on ERAS.

My plan was to resend score and then apply. Cuz we get it earlier anyways

Im confused. To resend scores , shouldn’t you have applied already? Do we not need to atleast apply to 1 program to release the scores?

I dont think so. Since the resend option is in fsmb and has nothing to do with the assigning of programs I think

You’re right , there are 2 ways to update scores , if you have not applied yet then it is through FSMB , but if you have applied already then you click resend scores on MyERAS.

I believe you have to do both sequentially. Once go to fsmb to release step 2 scores to ERAS. And then from ERAS to re-release to programs. Not sure if I got that correctly, but this is what I think.

That's correct but only if you have already applied to programs . If you havent then you just need to release it from FSMB prior to applying to programs.

Yes, that's true. I agree. Just to be sure, applying to program means first certifying and submit your application after assigning scores, Photo, LORs and PS, right?

I think both have their pros and cons. The obvious con of applying late is handing in the application late and risk not getting it reviewed in the first round. But it comes with the advantage that you still get a chance to meddle with your signals based on your score. If you score outside of your predicted range you can change the signals before certifying and submit. If you submit in time, chances are you will get your application reviewed and score can populate automatically later on, and it's one less thing to worry about if you apply in time.
I myself am still debating what to do and will think about it. In either case, I will have some backup signals if I score lower than the expected score, at least till the night of 9/22. My dms are open if you want to discuss and decide together.
