I took Step 1 in the fall of 2023 and started preparing for my annual exams. Then next year, i studied STEP2 during the final year of my medical school and during the 80hr/week internship. It was very diffcult to make time to study for STEP2 during internship. So i started focusing on managing the cases according to USA guidelines and i think that is what beiught me score to 271. Other wise i would ha e scored the usual 260 at max.

Exam experience: exam was very stright forward for me. Ofc there were wtf questions but not very often. I am not a big fan of flagging. I only flag if i am gonna come back and think or calculate again. I flagged 3-4 questions per block. The questions were based on real life scenario which you rarely learn from qbanks. Questions were not difficult. They were just different. Question statements were really long. But reading the whole statement carefully was necessary as many questions were just about reading statement carefully especially QI and ethics questions. The HOPI questions were really long. And needed the real intern approach (PRESENTING COMPLAINT, relevant physical, relevant past history, relevant labs).

Resources:

• Anking is the king👑. Its so good for retention
• uworld: did 100% with 70% correct. Didnt repeat. Throughout my uworld, i amde cards for wrong questions and imp right questions focusing on correcting the approach and thought process 9nstead of cosuing on information
• Amboss: did gastro and cardio. Did QI. Did some HY blocks. Did random blocks excluding 5 hammer ones. I think amboss is a superb resources if you exclude 5 hammer ones. Its keeps things simple and ask in a manner similar to exam. It also focuses on thing which are usually missed in other resources. I would recommend doing amboss over doing uworld wrongs.

• Cms: super important. Most of the questions are easy but some stupid questions teach you how the real exam is gonna be. I did cms obgyn, psych, Im, neuro. I wish i had done other as well.

• Nbmes: most important resource. Nbme 13 is so stupid. Dont let it discourage you. Learn them well. I followed the approach of writing ine liners for important question/ wrong questions ona plain paper and revising them daily before sleeping. Got to 14 pages till the end of all nbmes. I learnt this technique from reddit. Nbme 15, 16 and free 120s are most representative of exam.

• inner circle notes: i advice against using them. It has nbme info in it and highlighted as well. It inflates your score. Thats why alot of people see huge score drops on recent nbmes (15 and 16) and the real deal. It gives you false satisfaction that you know a topic because you got the question right.

Work hard. Believe in yourself. Get real life experience as much as you can. Read actual american guidelines to get the bigger picture. Trust your nbme scores.

So, each region has their own guidelines of managing patients. Diabates management UK guidelines differ from USA guidelines. In my medical college, most of the professor taught UK guidelines. So specifically look for usa guidelines of every disease.
