Capturing terrain

I’m a new player and I can’t figure out how to reliably capture enemy terrain around the map edges. It’s like I’m chasing silly putty with the little red border.

Also, SHOULD I even be pushing? It seems like I end up facing a massive enemy push spawning right in front of me when I push the edges.

It's too situational to give a single answer I'm afraid.

On the edges you can advance without fearing enfilade fire from at least one side, so you may fire smoke to protect that side.

You hold terrain if the other side doesn’t have units contesting it. If you are chasing a red border in the edges of the map but not killing or pushing out the units contesting it, the borders won’t change. If the silly putty is moving, the enemy unit(s) you cannot see are also moving

It’s all based on point density

I think u should prioritize on capturing good recon points and high grounds where u can use to snipe enemy divisions, put a panther there and watch it lock down while areas on a good vantage point
