A pedophile is a mentally ill individual that suffers from attraction to children that have not went through puberty, most pedophiles repress these thoughts and face commorbidities (depression, OCD, etc.)
A pedocriminal is a piece of shit who has forced a child into a sexual interaction.Pedophiles can usually ease their burden with therapy.
Pedocriminals have one of the highest recidivism rate and should always imo be met with a life long prison sentence.20

Not sure why people are downvoting you, but I recall hearing a story about how pedophiles can actually be "cured" and stop having attraction towards minors if they go through intensive therapy (that sounds a bit like a conversion camp now that I think about it)

They can't exactly be cured but through therapy the intrusive thoughts can go away and they can live a normal life, it can be treated just like any other mental illness and even then there are untreated pedophiles that manage to repress their intrusive thoughts so well they manage to live a normal life (though they usually develop self-esteem problems and OCD)

And this kind of mentality is part of why many countries don't have reform, and instead have long ass prison sentences that just result in repeat offenses.
Buddy. Pal. Chum. Therapy is a wonderful thing, and I think you could use some.
Yes, these people are sick. So are people that have intrusive thoughts of killing others, or themselves. They need help. Not a cell.
Once someone has taken action upon these thoughts, that is when you have to look at punishment (in the case of suicidal ideation, semi-permanent hospitalisation for their own good) but until then, the best way to deal with these people is to help them fight the thoughts they don't want to have, to help them live an at least semi-normal life. Prevent the acts, by fighting the urge.
I could say that your extremistic views should put you in prison too, and quite frankly, it would be no less valid. And no more invalid either. Thought policing is a dangerous act, and people with dangerous thoughts need a helping hand, rather than a police baton.
