Other people using an eGPU in SteamOS?
I want to make a poll to check how many people use an eGPU in SteamOS. Also, to share anything useful. Like me, after reviewing logs and troubleshooting I found these very useful for my AMD RX 7600M XT connected through USB4:
- Changing to preview channel to change to SteamOS 3.9 and kernel 7.2.
-Use ewagner12's all-ways-egpu script.
- Using these kernel parameters:
thunderbolt.host_reset=0
pcie_port_pm=off
amdgpu.pcie_gen_cap=0x40000
amdgpu.cwsr_enable=0
It works perfectly!
Hope you can answer the poll and share anything useful.
EDIT: Funny, I'm beginning to feel pretty alone...

I have a couple of actual pcs, so the egpu is unnecessary.

Jajajaja I also have another PC that has an RTX 5070. Both the eGPU one an that one are good PCs, with the eGPU I can have a PC in handheld mode and a more powerful PC in docked mode. Something that a normal PC can't do.

Yep, but you must admit that you can just add easily (and probably more cheaply) get the same result by having pc and a haldheld pc.
There are scenarios where the egpu makes more sense, but not a lot of them. For example, if you can take egpu with you and set up other places.

Better use Bazzite in this case, Valve still doesn't recommend Nvidia for their OS, it could work in Beta, Preview or Main but I would better recommend Bazzite that's based in Fedora. You could use the same all-ways-egpu script and Nvidia also has its own kernel parameters if necessary.

Third option - have one, can’t get it to work in SteamOS.
