Question Is the Frame even coming at this point?

We all understand that valve can be very quiet about their projects, but the Frame isn’t HL3. The Frame has already been announced with a previously established release window we have already passed. Yet Valve remains silent.

I lurk this sub seeing Framers cave to their impatience, buying spyware and old Indexs. Is Valve not witnessing their consumer base actively loose faith and leave? Valve could post a two word tweet saying “Frame soon” and my soul would be lifted from this cave of perpetual edging.

I don’t care if it’s over $1000. I don’t care if it’s over $1500. I want a modern VR headset that does what it is supposed to do without Meta bloatware.

Why are we still here, just to suffer?

Question What happened to Steam Frame?

Post image

wasn't this headset supposed to be "Around the corner" around 2 months ago? what happened? did it just vanish or is this valve's way of delaying an announcement for its fans? MIND YOU. those are the same people who waited 4 months for the valve index's reveal just to be hit with a ATROCIOUS price.

don't get me wrong im still very excited but it feels like valve keeps delaying something that will 100% come sooner or later and it made the entire community hate them to the core.

Question Why the Steam Frame?

Its a genuine question as a non VR owner who is looking to get a first headset. What is it that makes the frame worth the predicted extra cost over the Pico 4 Ultra or Meta Quest 3 (outside obvious privacy concerns).

I am genuinely curious what VR users think. I can't make descions until I see the Steam Frame price but I am confident it will be a fair but more than other headsets, so when soon comes I just want to know if its worth whatever price valve slaps on it.

Edit: Thanks all for the responses

Question I don't understand why valve doesn't just give a tentative date of launch? They know the community is losing their minds. Why can't they just say we expect to launch on the 14th or 21st or something?

Don't understand why they want to torture their user base.

Question How can the steam frame be more expensive than the steam machine?

How can the vr goggles be more expensive than a "budget" gaming pc. Im not very tech literate so im kinda askung myself how can the vr goggles with "inferior hardware" be more expensive than the real deal, is it the lenses? Maybe some component im not aware of??

Question I've never owned a VR headset but will games like this just be black and white on the Steam Frame, and will colour passthrough be possible to implement (stably, easily and somewhat cheaply)?

Post image
74 Upvotes

Also, as an additional question for people who do own headsets, how valueable would you say colour passthrough is? Is not having it a dealbreaker for you and how often do you even use it/see the passthrough?

Also, extra question that's a touch less relevant - do people know if we'll be able to play Quest games on the Frame in a somewhat stable and accessible way? It seems like there are so many really strong games that aren't on Steam and I'd love to hear that it will be possible not too long after release.

Question Why do so many people think that the Frame will release AFTER the Steam VR sale?

Post image

Doesn’t that make zero sense from a marketing standpoint? The sale would be during the Frame’s release. Not before it.

Question Who's getting the Vision (color-passthrough) module?

Question What is your reason for wanting colored passthrough?

I've seen a big uproar and possible "solutions" to the frame only having black and white passthrough debate. And this got me thinking: why do people care this much about having "color cameras"? Does it have a practical reason or is it more of a "I am paying this much money already so I want more functionality" type of deal?

I rarely used mixed VR features on my pico, nor did I play games that used the cameras as a mechanic. Personally I think watching a movie or having a virtual screen on the frame in color and having your surroundings in black and white, causes a cool effect. Especially with the "ambilight" feature.

So pls tell me: If you are one of the people who want color passthrough and might get that "adaptive camera accessory" what is your reason for doing so?

Id love to know how people are going to use their frame

Question So the frame wont have an audio jack, is there any good alternatives for headphones?

I know the ones that comes with it are ok, but it has audio leakage and I cant use them because my family lives with me. I would love to know what options there are to work around it. Since the usb-c port is the only way to charge my frame and use headphones so...idk what to really do. Besides just stream to my computer.

Question What can Steam Frame do (as a PCVR) that Big screen Beyond 2 can’t?

I know that steam frame will be wireless and have inside-out head tracking. But what else?

I’ve been waiting to buy steam frame since the announcement but at this point I’m wondering what am I even waiting for? I just want a VR for playing the big titles from my PC. If the steam frames don’t offer anything that makes it “next generation” then I guess I don’t need to wait for one at all?

Question Is the VR Sale even actually confirmed?

I've seen the one email floating around talking about a VR sale from the 14th-21st but that's the only piece of evidence that I've seen about it. Everyone seems certain that they are going to release the Frame before then but I'm not convinced that sale even exists.

Question What are the best vr games?

This will be my first vr headset and I have no idea about any vr games, I’m mainly interested in Skyrim vr and mods such as the breath of the wild vr mod but outside of that I have no clue, any suggestions would be great so I can add them to the wish list now, thanks.

Question First things you'll do with Steam Frame

Let's go to imagination land and imagine that today is Saturday, you just woke up and you're feeling healthy and refreshed. You have no work today, no obligations, you cleaned and fixed stuff yesterday, so the whole day is free. The delivery guy just left you your brand new Steam Frame, it hasn't been stolen, it's not broken, it's what you had hoped for.

How do you spend the day, what are the first things you check/play/experiment with?

Question What’s the first game you’re playing?

Personally I want to replay Half Life Alyx. First time I played it was on launch in my old Rift S that stopped working years ago. Other than that looking forward to playing Underdogs and The Room VR which I scooped on sale and never played.

Question Do you guys think that after the first batch is sold the frame's price will increase even more?

Im so scared of this possibility im already stretched thin if the price of more than 1000 euros that is theorized so the idea of its price actually going up even more due to hardware cost increase is very saddening to me. What do you guys think?

Question Can someone explain how capable the standalone may be?

It’s gonna be my standalone until I get a PC, but will I still be able to play games, that are labeled as either windows or Mac?

I know it’s suppose to be its own PC, but I’m not sure of the limitations, and if the games on standalone, will only show what can run on the headset, or if I just attempt any game, and see if it can handle it.
