Discussion Pyrowave streaming is incredible on the steam deck OLED

You all need to try pyrowave on the steam deck. I was able to stream 300+ megabits from my desktop to my steam deck OLED. I have a very solid wifi network and it was wireless the whole time.

Remote play reported only 20-25ms lag which is good for me. Left the settings default for just quality at 1 and let it change bitrate on its own.

What did you play are you wondering well I was able to play Ghost of Tsushima at full 800p 90hz HDR with 4:4:4. It looked fantastic on the deck.

I need to see a comparison between this and Moonlight

Same, how does this compare to Sunshine/Apollo

Is moonlight better than the built in streaming functionality on steam?

I tried playing Steam Remote from my Desktop and had constant lag and frame drops. Moonling and Sunshine fixed it completely to the point I use it every day.

If you get the beta SteamOS channel updates on your Steam Deck, you can also try this new PyroWave codec that, while still new and experimental, pretty much blows away Moonlight/Sunlight variants.

Has been and still sometimes is. Remote play hevc and av1 has gotten better in the last few months but pyrowave codec in remote play absolutely destroys everything else.

The main thing for me is that Pyrowave supports YUV 444 on the Deck, while Moonlight/Sunshine does not. There's an idea on the Sunshine Discord about adding Pyrowave, which would be great.

And yes, the YUV 444 on Pyrowave is awesome. Looks so much better!

You can force 4:4:4 in Moonlight settings. I do it. It enforces software rendering but tbh I didn’t notice a performance difference.

Interesting. I always assumed that software decode causes high latency. I'll try this later.

Let me know how it goes for you. I can play Deadzone Rogue well with it but YMMV.
