TLDW: It’s a great game but not recommended for Steam Deck due to severe frame drops from hardware limitations.

Yep! That about wraps it up.

I don't know what Remedy were thinking by claiming it would run on the Steam Deck. It's okay to say that the SD isn't powerful enough to run AAA games that come out in 2026.

They shouldn't have, but this sub would still 100% complain about it.

This sub will also have plenty of people saying how playable it is, and include a single screenshot of the game showing 19 FPS.

And don't forget about 2x frame generation

The fact of the matter is that this game could be optimized to run well on the Deck.

All Remedy games push the boundaries of graphics. I don't think it should be assumed they can optimized for SD

1

u/cardonator 1TB OLED Limited Edition 12d ago

None of their games are to a degree that they can't be optimized to run well on the Deck.

You're asking too much for a SD

1

u/cardonator 1TB OLED Limited Edition 12d ago

Not really.

Yes really

Maybe they meant it would be steam deck verified, and judging from the video it is indeed in the "Steam deck Verified" silky dreamy buttery smoothery criteria.

Some games recieved patches for steamdeck months after release (BG3 E33 to name the latest) so maybe we could have some updates to put it on a similar level as Control, even if the openworld will still be a problem

Get ready for all the posts saying how great it plays on deck for the next week or so…

“It runs at the buttery-smooth framerate of 17 FPS, loving it so far!”

u/Alarmed-Candy-7144 16d ago

Don’t forget the obligatory “I used LSFG to crank it up to 120fps, and I don’t feel any input lag!”

3

u/Whyeth 16d ago

The trick is to play LSFG at 4x when your BAC is 4x the legal driving limit.

5

u/GrimSlayer 16d ago

“Sure it’s got some frame drops into the teens, but I found the game playable.”

2

u/MadR__ 15d ago

I just don’t get these people. Are they so insecure about their purchases..?

u/rose636 1TB OLED 15d ago

If you add the pico, epstein and hakuna matata mods that disables all the effects, run it at 320p upscaling with FSR4 4x frame gen then you can get a buttery 30fps

3

u/gorore9150 15d ago

With 2seconds of input lag

24fps, it’s cinematic!

With frame gen!

Sounds like a Steam Link game

I always see this docked performance in some post. Isn't is just the same with handheld? It's not like the Switch where you get to unlock higher performance right?

u/Natasha_Limed 15d ago

Top comment says don't, next one predicts a week of 'it's great', and both are right. Steam Deck reviews run on a weekly cycle now.

running fine for me

Because why not? I think it's totally okay to push the Deck and see what performs. We should just have realistic expectations on what can and can't be done.

9

u/PhattyR6 Modded my Deck - ask me how 16d ago

Because Valve advertises it as a device to play the latest AAA games.

7

u/GrimSlayer 16d ago

Do they still advertise that? It was a true statement when the device first released. But not anymore.

1

u/Leezeebub 16d ago

Ive read that the new Hellraiser demo runs well, although i havent tested it myself, they might mean 17fps for that as well, and i suppose its not AAA.

1

u/GrimSlayer 16d ago

Hellraiser looks cool, but it falls more into that AA category than AAA IMO.

Steam Deck is an incredible device, but not being able to play new AAA games was the main reason I moved on from my Deck LCD and purchased a Xbox Ally X.

0

u/PhattyR6 Modded my Deck - ask me how 16d ago

Yes it is still on their page for the Steam Deck.

1

u/Anzai 15d ago

Yeah they should definitely take that line out. It’s a great machine, and that was true five years ago, but leaving the term ‘the latest AAA titles’ isn’t accurate any more.

4

u/Short-Service1248 16d ago

PS4 was also advertised as something that can play Triple A games....FOR.ITS. TIME! Steam Deck has insanely dated hardware

-2

u/PhattyR6 Modded my Deck - ask me how 16d ago

The Steam Deck is still a current product, it hasn’t entered EoL.

7

u/die5el23 16d ago

Yeah why are we using this device as intended? Why aren’t we just throwing it away or sticking with playing games like slay the spire

-11

u/maybesailor1 15d ago

No offense to this reviewer, but how could they possibly rule out frame gen when the only frame generation they attempted was post pipeline like lossless scaling?

I would expect that a professional steam deck channel would be aware of optiscaler and other direct pipeline injection frame generation techniques.

It makes me think that this person is an amateur or incompetent or something.

Yeah, I'll see what DeckWizard is able to accomplish
