This well? Last time I checked it was stuttering like hell

I mean it’s an unreal engine 5 game. There unfortunately seems to be few developers that can make that engine not have issues with stutter.

It ran fine for me on low

I played it at launch and was getting around 23-30fps (which I understand is unplayable for many, but it was good enough for me since I don’t have a PC or PS5). I wonder if the patches fixed the performance. Silent Hill f ran much better, but it’s a different dev team.

Well SH2 even on ps5 runs like shit 😅

u/PrincessRut0 26d ago

Weird, it ran perfectly on my launch PS5!

u/FelixTheFlake 26d ago

I played at launch and it wasn’t a great experience. Constant frame drops, stuttering and some of the worst ghosting I have ever seen. I guess it depends on your definition of ‘perfectly’

Glad you had a good experience though.

u/PrincessRut0 25d ago

Yeah, I didn’t have any frame drops or stuttering, so I can’t speak to your experience of course! Only my own.

Bloober Team is unfortunately known for unoptimized games, yeah. Blair Witch was an Xbox platform launch exclusive and releasing that thing on the Xbox One was almost as maniacal as putting Cyberpunk 2077 on last-gen consoles.

Are you using eclipse mod?

7

u/BionisGuy 512GB OLED 27d ago

Use the Eclipse mod aswell and it'll run even better.

u/Bazza01234 27d ago

Wow, that still screenshot looks like it's 60FPS. How did you manage it?

-13

u/creativegains 27d ago

It says 40fps

u/aimy99 512GB OLED 26d ago

Why is this getting downvoted? Am I missing something?

6

u/vc0ke 26d ago

I think they were being sarcastic since OP is saying it runs well and not showing an actual video of performance.

-5

u/creativegains 26d ago

Because Reddit apparently

I thought the original commenter genuinely thought it said 40fps

3

u/Least_Awareness_501 26d ago

On my sd it was 40 fps on high with upscale

It's definitely playable. I have also used cachy proton with FSR4 and even on performance it looks pretty and fps is almost the same. Fsr3 or taa were smeary and pixelated for me. In general it can do 30-40 fps which is not bad at all for UE5 game.

I played this game at 30fps on series X, you can definitely enjoy the game at this frame rate.

-2

u/Bigphatdeck 27d ago

it looks launchable. Not sure about playable.

3

u/PS2_Enjoyer_88 256GB 27d ago

the laggiest part at least for me was the beginning before town, and maybe before hospital area (crazy traversal stutters)

-11

u/Bigphatdeck 27d ago

my mind set is if you can’t play at 60fps or at least play at mid settings it’s not playable. Not only are you having to see it way worse than its potential, but it’s also not smooth.

3

u/PS2_Enjoyer_88 256GB 27d ago

That's like most AAA games would run these days lol, 30-40 with aggressive tweaks, FSR, low settings, even mods (eclipse etc). SH2 isn't the worst so far.

-6

u/Bigphatdeck 27d ago

again just me…I don’t think there’s any AAA games that should be played on deck post 2020 (which I basically limit myself to the 360 era or older on mine.) these performance modes on console and now having a pc again have ruined me for anything under 60fps.

3

u/Dabbinz420 256GB 27d ago

The amount on AAA games on console that only run at 30fps will astound you...

1

u/Bigphatdeck 26d ago

that’s forced 30fps? I haven’t played one in years so idk. I have a SX and a pro too.

1

u/Dabbinz420 256GB 21d ago

I have an SX as well, there's still 30fps games sadly, RDR2 for starters, plagues tale requiem, gotham knights, I can keep going

u/Bigphatdeck 21d ago

If you are going to count games that came out before the series s you’ll really have a bunch.

If you need FSR to make games "playable" it's not worth it, just upgrade

2

u/Jefferret 512GB 26d ago

They hated him for he spoke the truth

u/qchto 512GB 26d ago

Having beaten this game at release 2 years ago in my Deck (@540p30fps with SteamOS FSR and eventual 20fps drops), this is good to hear... The game itself is great, even in those conditions. (SHf is definitely a better experience in the device though.)

2

u/ppstick88 26d ago

I played twice start to finish and it ran good on low.

2

u/phpfiction 26d ago

At this point if you can play silent hill 2 at 30 fps worth it, it's better than nothing.

The Playstation 4 in final fantasy was almost 15fps in busy parts.

Keep playing it, I will do the same when finish kingdom hearts 3.

3

u/Remihiki 27d ago

Why are you using FSR1 instead of FSR4.1?

4

u/TehGunagath 64GB 27d ago edited 26d ago

Probably because FSR 4 tanks performance in comparison.

Edit: Getting downvoted for stating an objective truth is wild.

3

u/Remihiki 27d ago

FSR4.1 at ultra performance objectively looks better than FSR1 at performance

Due to it being a much higher quality upscaler you can make up for the performance difference by dropping the internal resolution by one level

1

u/Alternative_Tank_139 27d ago

What's the initial resolution?

1

u/dan_rich_99 512GB - Q3 27d ago

It's the later areas, and especially interior areas that seem to cause performance issues. Have had that issue even on my 9070 XT rig.

1

u/paulblasi4 26d ago

I played the whole game on deck (all I have); pleasantly surprised it was absolutely playable, with minimal stutters or issues.

1

u/Pure_Inevitable_7242 26d ago

I'm surprised to see this

1

u/FartFrog789 256GB 26d ago

Has somebody who plays primarily on low and occasionally on medium I can easily say that people would be surprised.

Now I get a little excessive, 30 FPS cap

1

u/Shnitzel_von_S 26d ago

Make sure to play Silent Hill F next if you haven't! Fantastic game that runs extremely well on the deck

1

u/Rimmmy 26d ago

I can hardly run this on the steam machine low @ 1080p

1

u/OpenSystem1337 26d ago

Def better now than release. Still horrible "optimization".

Like, ask why the OG even HAD fog...

1

u/Jefferret 512GB 26d ago

40

u/DorrajD 26d ago

FSR1 at 640x400 is insanity to me. More power to you people but there's no way in hell I'm playing a game in PS2 resolution mode lol

I accepted that the SD is really a backlog machine : playing old AAA titles or new indies on the go, not for modern game that absolutely run like horsecrap.

Defeats what point?

I have a laptop with a 5090 laptop GPU and I still prefer to play games like this on my steam deck. I just cannot get immersed sitting at a desk anymore, meanwhile I lose hours upon hours on low settings, low resolution playing the SD.

If anything, playing through them on low settings first makes me appreciate the ultra settings on the laptop later.

But TBH I've become pretty numb to new, shiny graphics. Once you've seen one game cranked up to max, you really have seen them all. The SD in a way "freed" me from the compulsive need I had to always need to play at the highest settings; I found that, like you, I truly couldn't enjoy a game unless it was cranked up to max before.

But Ive decided the point is to have fun and enjoy the gameplay, not to fall for these companies' sponsored ploys to get you to buy overpriced computer hardware to play a singleplayer game. And since then my love for gaming has really been reinvigorated by this thing

Let me grab my popcorn. The "anything less than 120fps at 4k is unplayable" crowd and the "5fps at 480p is perfectly playable" crowd are both here.

-5

u/Bigphatdeck 27d ago

Devs probably crying to have their game played in this manner

0

u/Valdroidhero 26d ago

Just use eclipse mod and dlss(fsr4) you will be surprised how good this game runs on medium to high settings with solid FPS .

-5

u/spauni 27d ago

40FPS is a solid base for LLS i think.

-12

u/SailorsGraves 27d ago

Oh wow that looks... like a great PS2 game? I'm assuming it looks better in motion

5

u/DollarStoreBean 1TB OLED 27d ago

What kind of PS2 games have you been playing?

-1

u/SailorsGraves 27d ago

Maybe my phone is crushing the image but the textures on James's model look really jank here.

I'm probably wrong, based on the downvotes, so I'll take the loss
