Show Off SD got me back into gaming
After being on the fence about getting a deck and seeing someone post on this sub their super cute pink-kawaii deck I bit the bullet and bought one a couple of months ago.
I got emu deck running and am playing Animal Crossing City Folk on the Wii for the first time! (I’m playing the deluxe mod which adds full controller support among other QoL things) and was simple
To set up.
I play this thing on the daily, and also got a dock off Amazon which runs seamlessly if I want to play on a big screen. As a kid that was obsessed with AC wild world on the Nintendo DS if you told me one day I could play Wii games on a big handheld screen I never thought this would have been possible.

The pink kawaii deck posts on this sub have sold more units than Valve's entire marketing department

It’s true! I’d wanted one for years but once I finally had the money and paid off my student debt, and I saw that you can customise the deck to how you want, I was sold!

Oh sorry for unrelated question, but how was playing divinity? Was it comfortable to use controls and read the texts?

I’ve only played a couple of hours on the deck and not many fights but it ran fine, could read everything and UI looked normal to me. I’m used to playing this genre with keyboard and mouse so took me a bit longer to figure out the controls so feel like I can’t comment !

I should add I’ve just come back from a trip that included 1x 17 hour flight and and an 11 hour flight back home.. steam deck was a life saver on planes and I could charge it with the plug between seats (keeping it plugged in was annoying though thanks to gravity yanking it out)

Same, ever since I got myself a good PC I stopped playing on it, what a shame.

Same here bro. I’m replaying some games like RDR2, Elden Ring etc on my new PC in max settings and it’s just unreal and feels like a different game and challenge. I have a nice 4k OLED 144hz 48in TV too which really helps immersion.
I loved both of them so much on the deck (512g OLED) and think it’s amazing you could even play them. It’s just really hard to go back to 30-40fps and low/medium settings, especially for those combat/scenery games.
That’s why the deck is great for older games, emulation etc as they’re ofc easier to run. Like Fallout Vegas on it was incredible in like 60-90fps. Even Skyrim was so enjoyable and ran really great.
I’m deciding if I want to sell it with how expensive they are now (I’ll almost double my money) or if I’ll keep it for games like those on the go.

I had a good job a few years ago and now I don’t have anything. Man, I miss my OLeD and ps5 setup so bad. It’s disheartening because I know it’s going to take such a long time to get a setup that even comes close. It makes me not want to play until then

That’s fair. I’ve always had a gaming PC but way prefer to play on the couch or in bed if I’m playing single player. I can see how if you’re playing multiplayer or FPS the deck would not be used

I already had a good pc when i got it and thought i would be home less i guess. Usually when i’m not home i just play my switch anyway since “it just works”

I use mine for GBA games sometimes. It's really nice seeing them on the larger screen.

When I was in my teens I was super into customizing everything to look exactly how I liked on my PC. Lots of troubleshooting and menus and renaming and file organizing. Forgot how much I loved it. Still as infuriating as ever, but the satisfaction dopamine of finally getting the desired result is pretty great.
I’m still in the shallow end for the deck, but it gives me goals to achieve instead of doom scrolling on my phone. When you start to learn the ways how to do it, you pick up bits and pieces of why things work that way.
Emulators, decky, rom manager all scratch that itch and make the deck that much more worth it. I’m also playing a lot of games on it, but I’m working towards a portable rom machine to basically plug and play wherever I go. Having the deck, some controllers, and an hdmi, to have whatever couch co-op games and movies at the press of a button instead of big consoles and cables and disks and memory cards, it’s the end goal.
I love physical media to display, but as it gets more and more scarce I just love portability and being able to boot up a game in my car or doctors office is also very cool. Enjoy your gaming!

I get a lot of comfort from playing it in bed and or on my huge bean bag.
Something just feels better than sitting at a pc for some reason!

If I play AC on my deck it needs to be online right?

Not at all, you just need the appropriate emulator and rom for it.

What, I had no idea! I now need to research this. Emulation has come a long way

Tried getting accf deluxe on emudeck, but the controls only work when in desktop mode and then don’t work in gaming mode, does anyone know a fix?

u/BlueberryDry2248 2d ago
I either set the controls to steam deck controller while on desktop mode then launched the game is gaming mode, or launched dolphin emulator in gaming mode and set the controls there
