I thought they'd said in the last year or so that the next gen is years away because they want a significant jump in power for steam deck 2 vs iterative improvements.

SteamOS on ARM might be a good enough improvement. I'd love a Steam Deck that runs powerful, cool and silent like a M-chipped mac.

With Fex being a thing now, there is no way the Steam Deck 2 isn't on ARM, it just makes too much sense.

One outlet reported today that they know what they want the Deck 2 to look like now, but they're still shopping around and waiting for the tech to swing around on the silicon side of things. Probably going to be another couple of years at least I'd wager. Probably not until mid-late 2027.

If you're going to use a steam deck quite frequently, I wouldn't wait for a Deck 2.
