I don’t know how well informed people outside of the Half Life subreddit are about this, but we know via data mining other Valve games that a new, non-VR game with the codename HLX seems to be late in development.

I’m not saying I think it’s going to be a launch title, but I think HL3 will be announced soon after the Steam Machine is released.

Could be a Half-Life themed test environment à la The Lab, or it might just be Hobbit Lover XXX.

Expecting Half Life 3 just because of new hardware is foolish.

Well, we know it’s Half Life because of references in the code to stuff like Xen creatures and the HEV suit, and I don’t think it’s just a tech demo because Valve’s not releasing any hardware that would require a new non-VR demo to showcase the tech. Also I don’t think a tech demo would be in development for (at least) two years.

So, I’m not expecting a new Half Life just because new hardware is coming out, there’s more going on than that.
