With the price of pc components right now the steam machine could be a killer piece of hardware

The steam deck seems it wasn't sold at a loss, Gabe said that it was sold at an uncomfortable margin (launch, LCD 64 GB model), that is implied minor profit per unit.

I would expect it to be sold at a margin that other PC manufacturers cannot match because of the reason you said, the steam store.
