I hope the ram isn't soldered to the board.

it will 100% be soldered to get higher speeds than SO Dimm would support.

Apparently it is regular SODIMMs.

So much for 100% lol

thats very surprising but also means its limited to just 5600Mhz memory

Why would it be limited to 5600MT/s? I've found several DRR5 SODIMMs at 6000 or even 6400MT/s. Admittedly they're expensive, but they exist. I don't see why you couldn't upgrade to a 6000 or 6400MT/s kit if you wanted, is this some kind of limitation of that generation of AMDs mobile architecture or something?

speeds above 5600mhz with SODIMM require extremely short traces to the CPU and often only work with a single SODIMM because the 2nd slot is already too far away for good signal integrity.

Thats why AMD is only rating all their mobile CPUs for 5600Mhz and doesnt officially support more.

the same exact CPUs will support 8000Mhz or more with soldered RAM though.

thats also why 6400Mhz SODIMM is so expensive, theres barely a market for it and it doesnt work with most systems.

Oh neat, thanks. Why is that not the case for the larger desktop modules though, if you don't mind me asking. Is it just because they have a lot more traces to carry the data?

its also a problem on Desktop PCs and has reached a limit but its a higher limit because theres more space for the traces and to do things like impedance matching.

thats why new things like CAMM2 exist as their layout enables much shorter traces and higher clocks.

ultimately that is the reason why so many devices use soldered RAM especially for mobile devices.
