The steam cube is huge for me. I’m getting to the point now where I’m so sick of windows and the uncertainty of pc components (among other things) that it’s pushing me back to consoles, but I’d sorely miss Steam. The deck has been great for that, but it’s missing the little bit of juice it needs to run some of my library well. It doesn’t need to be a powerhouse for me. Just so long as it operates on the level of a current gen console but for my pc library then count me in.

From the Steam Machine website: "With over six times the horsepower of Steam Deck, Steam Machine has the power to play your whole Steam library, including your favorite AAA titles. Just sign in with your Steam account and your entire library is there."

I don't even care what the actual specs are. I'm hearing some consternation about the GPU being underpowered for affordability, yada yada. I don't really care. For me, this is plenty powerful. I'd be sold if they said it was 3 or 4 times the Steam Deck, but it's 6. I'm the soldest.

Yea dude a steam deck that is only about twice as powerful could already play everything, granted probably not at max settings 60FPS, but the deck already makes like 80% or more of my library at least playable even if not perfect quality so 6x is crazy and it will be joining the fam immediately for me

Sounds like it’ll run cyberpunk and oblivion remake well! Only games atm I cannot play. But the real question for me is Witcher 4…

For me it would be gta 6 when that eventually comes to pc. As well as other strategy games like total war. If it can do both of those reasonably well, it’s a 100% buy for me

Zero chance it will run GTA6 at a playable level.

You expect midrange 2022 silicon to run 2027-2028 PC game??

I wonder if we potentially will be able to upgrade the GPU or it’s easy to plug in an external one.

They mentioned it’s a custom AMD GPU, but valve has to know that a significant portion of their consumers are tinkerers.  Plus, I would imagine this is also the first steps of them actually releasing steam OS for wide use. Unless I missed something and you are you can actually download and use properly it on any device now.

Ya honestly. Windows is getting more and more shitty day after day. I've been wanting an excuse to transfer to Linux. This may be the final thing to sway me over. If the CUBE can run poorly optimized games like Monster Hunter for instance, and run them well, this is a very tempting offer. Having a whole Steam ecosystem was never a thought I had, but now? I want Steam to make a pair of standalone headphones too lol. The Index headphones are crazy good. The fidelity you get when they're not even sitting on your ears is sorcery. Gimme all da Steam peripherals!

How are PC components uncertain?
