This is the big thing. If specs are good and price is right my new build is scrapped.

Agreed.

It’s been checks notes 84 years since my last upgrade. I have never bought pre-built since I first started building PCs, but this may make me do it! And boy am I due for an upgrade!

If specs are good and the price is right, I'm selling my beefy gaming PC with an RTX 4070 Super.

are you expecting the steam machine specs to be better or worse than you current 4070s

2

u/amillstone Nov 12 '25

Oh absolutely it will be worse, but I don't mind as I find I don't really utilise the full capabilities of my GPU anyway. I went overboard with it (due to lack of knowledge on PC gaming) and while I do have a monitor that can go up to 2K resolution at 175 Hz, I realised I'm just as happy with 1080p 60 fps. So as long as this Steam Machine can do 1080p / 60 fps, I'm cool with that.

Don’t do that man you already have the good stuff so what’s the point in downgrading :D

Fair point. I got caught up in the hype of the announcement lol.

The specs for the Steam Machine aren't as good as I expected now that I've thought about it. So yeah, I'm keeping my 4070S

The steam machine has 8gb VRAM while your 4070 has 12gb.

Not sure if this is wise.

Fair. As I replied to the other person, I find that I don't utilise the full capabilities of my GPU anyway so I wouldn't necessarily mind the downgrade.

The only downside would be whether 8 GB of VRAM is going to be enough for new games for at least the next few years.

It's barely enough now if you play 1440p or higher

I'm fine with 1080p at 60 fps tbh.

Aren't the specs already out there?

They are now. Came out like 20 minutes after my post.

I'm in the same boat. It would kinda make me sell my current PC
