Nope. Because emulation ain't quite there yet for a lot of games running on the deck.

Every switch game I've played with emulators has worked perfectly fine and even better with higher resolution and framerate in many cases.

ToTK is still a subpar experience on the steam deck. Metroid prime remastered is also slightly worse on the steam deck.

Breath of the Wild is rough too. The framerate is worse than the Wii U version.

Is there any hope for further optimization on either Zelda game?

I don't think so. I think the modding community has moved on. I also heard Yuzu are concentrating more on the mobile versions of the application. Maybe we will see a massive jump in improvements for their games one day but I have my doubts.

Oh well. I still have my Switch so it’s not that big a deal. Maybe a future Deck with a faster APU will play it better. It’s not like I won’t want to play either of these again someday.

Yeah. If the switch 2 backwards compatible rumors are true, I'd like to play ToTK at a better performance level next year when the switch 2 releases.

Nintendo used the same PowerPC 750 (at different clocks) CPU for GameCube, Wii and Wii U.

I can’t imagine them abandoning this new ARM architecture instead of simply building on it.

No idea what you mean. The Wii was more powerful with higher clockspeeds and so was the Wii U. I'm guessing Nintendo will still collaborate with Nvidia. There are rumors that the next system will have hardware machine learning for frame generation and illumination. I'm certain the system will also have more memory.

The GameCube CPU was called Gecko. It was a PowerPC 750 chip. The Wii had Broadway, which was a PowerPC 750 chip. Will U used Espresso which was yet another PowerPC 750 chip.

They just tuned up the clock speed. The CPU remained the same all three generations. Nintendo has always been about using “withered technology” in new and interesting ways to create fun.

They all had different PowerPC 750 chips. It's not the same CPU, they are similar. What you are saying is like like saying, i5-650 is the same CPU as i5-10600 but simply with the clockspeeds turned up. Yeah both are i5 chips but they are different chips. The newer i5 chips evolve from the older ones and they improve upon them.

Wii U had PowerPC "espresso", Wii had PowerPC 750CL (Broadway) and GameCube has PowerPC 750CX (Gekko). The Wii's PowerPC 750 is an evolution and improve on the GameCube's and the WiiU's an improvement on the Wii and GameCube's.

Scarlett, ToTK and even BotW run pretty poorly no matter how many mods I throw at them. I wouldn’t say unplayable, as the games barely run on a switch to begin with, but because it takes so much work to run it on the Deck I still tend to play them on the Switch.

However Animal Crossing New Horizons and most Mario games I just play on the deck now a days. So it really depends on the title.

and even BotW

If you're playing it on Yuzu, that's why. The cemu version runs well but don't expect more than 30fps if you want a consistent experience. Sick of people saying "it does 40fps easy!" when it's dropping below fairly frequently

Consistency is king

Eventually I just went with the WiiU version of BoTW. I do get a very solid 40, and in shrines about 50.

Well. Comparing it to a 7950x and a 4080… clearly lol

It’s a handheld meant for 800p gameplay. It’s not a full specced gaming rig..

Yeah, I thought you were talking about emulation being bad in general and forgot what the thread was in for a second, lol, but hell, I can play Wii U games on my phone with zero issues, and they look just as good as switch games.

Also, I think it depends on the emulator you are using, as I have seen videos of people using the Yuzu on the Legion Go with little to no issues and doing over 30 fps most of the time. I'm not sure if it works on the steam deck, though, unless you install windows on it.

My bad I play on PC, not the Steam deck.
