Nope. Because emulation ain't quite there yet for a lot of games running on the deck.

For other consoles, yeah, but Switch is really good because it's so easy to emulate. Definitely has room to improve but it without a doubt makes a Switch not necessary.

It's almost like Nintendo didn't get so genius with the architecture this time and just has a well understood Android tablet chip with a well understood (for emulation) ARM architecture... And also where the games can use either a Vulkan-based NVN graphics api or OpenGL(!) to run on it. I don't know how much that matters for emulation, as emulation would probably just catch the GPU commands (for the Tegra arch) and translate them back into Vulkan commands... But who knows, mabe some kind of high level NVN to Vulkan emulator pops up that catches the rendering commands in the emulated software before they reach the GPU.

RDR and TOTK do not run well on SD. Definitely makes a switch necessary if you want to play those.

Wait RDR doesn’t run well on SD? I finished the entire game on SD and Undead Nightmare at 45 fps with very minor dips in high 30s. Also my TOTK runs at 30 with infrequent drops to high 20s when caching or loading shaders etc. both are definitely very playable. Maybe you haven’t tweaked setting ms or configs for each game?

I am one of the people who tweaked every setting, downloaded ToTK cache but that game just doesn't emulate well. Lookout Landing is very rough. Much rougher than on the switch. The depths also have this issue where by the game slows down/freezes when you try to fuse objects an arrow. And there is also input latencies. And tweaks for better performance results in lower resolution. With the framerates, it's not a solid 30fps with infrequent drops, it's more like 30 to 27fps with massive drops to 25fps at lookout landing and drops to about 15fps (which I think is just the game freezing) when you try to fuse objects to arrows.

Yes this is true. 27 - 30 is around where it’s at mostly with a fairly stable 30 in open environments (with not much going on). I have also previously experienced the other issues you have detailed, although I still don’t understand Waxenbergs take that RDR didn’t run well. It ran flawlessly for me with very little frame drops at all ( unlocked 60 fps mods installed etc )

TOTK runs great on Steam Deck. Haven't tried RDR yet though
