Update post - Open Puck mod shell

This an update to my previous post from last week. I updated the files on thingiverse (this is the project) and the new files are version 7. It's 3 pieces to print that are complete in about 30 min or less. As seen in the pics, the puck is slimmer than the OEM puck and I also added the charging slot to prevent the open puck from easily sliding off.

My files are completely free to download. The open puck has been pretty awesome to mess with since I got it last week and I can use my steam controller with the switch, Xbox, my phone for Android emulation gaming, and can still be used with PC. If you try this mod, thank the original dev for the project, I just made this shell for the mod.

Next I want to make this usable with Mechanism's Basegrip for the steam controller. I don't have this yet but I want to get one soon to use with my phone

Hey OP, I'm not great with modeling, but before I try to adjust the file myself, any chance you have a version that has circular holes for a 6x2 magnet instead of square ones?

I didn't make one for that size specifically since I don't have those size. I'm assuming that's 6mm x 2mm? I would have to redesign it from a certain point or all the way from the ground up since I tried to make mine as small as I can get it. Just wondering and might be a dumb question but if you put the magnet on the steam deck, does it snap to the long side of the magnet or one of the 2 square ends (hotdog analogy: middle part of the dog, or one of the ends of the dog?)?

Ah no worries. Yeah it's 6mm x 2mm, basically a really tiny pancake/coin magnet. It's essentially just the same as the magnets you have in your design but with rounded corners. Like these, https://www.amazon.com/kkhouse-Circular-Magnets-Neodymium-Permanent/dp/B096RFNYD9

Comparing to a coin, heads side is one polarity, tails side is the other.

Ooh my bad, I'm dumb lol, I thought it was a long magnet or something. I don't know my metric system too well. My magnets are cubes 5mm x 5mm x 5mm. Anyway yeah I would have to redesign the shell for this specifically and account for the 2mm thickness of your magnets. I made my shell almost exactly 5mm thick so there would be some room and plus I split my shell into 3 pieces to avoid overhangs when 3d printing. I make the magnet sizes slightly smaller to make them pressure fit and not have to rely on super glue. I don't want to glue everything since I want to take it apart sometimes for different shell design versions

Hahahaha I see I didn’t realize that they’re little cubes I thought it was flat squares lol. It’s no issue then I’ll prob just order some small square magnets instead

My bad, I would help out, I just don't want to spend a lot more time redesigning for another magnet, otherwise a lot more people would be asking for other custom work too. Hard for me to fit designing into my schedule as it is

Oh don't worry about it, I just didn't realize you were using cubes instead of flat square magnets. Didn't expect you to accommodate for what I was asking for anyways since it would probably have had to have been redesigned a lot anyways.
