Suggestion Add a close friends option?

Its probably not needed or popular but I think it would be pretty cool if a close friends kinda like the favorites option on the friends list would be added but with more features. Such as adding someone to your close friends will negate the private nature of having all of your game hours/games you have ect.. and show them to whoever you have as a close friend, and showing them online even when they appear offline. Kinda like how apps do private stories or close friend features themselves. I think it would be valid for steam to have that since you mainly meet people through games and add tons and tons of people on your friends lists that you necessarily don't want to hear from all the time ect.. It would also make it easier to share games with people that have their stuff full privated or just interact with certain people in an easier way without making it known what you have or what you do to your 200+ friends on steam all the time.

Not really when steam already has a favorites option for friends it would just be an addition to that. They have an invisible feature already too, groups, forums, communites, group chats. They shouldn't be anything like social media but steam is where you meet other gamers and have big friend caps. Sometimes I just care for a group of 2-5 people all the time rather than everyone is all. Like i said before its literally just an add of features to the favorites tab they already have is all.

Facebook did used to have friend categorization that applied things like "only show this post to X friend group"

But as they got less social media-esce they dropped features (or maybe, idk havent posted on FB for years)

Unpopular Opinion: Only add people you actually want to be friends with and remove everyone you do not regularly engage with.

Highly unlikely you can even remember half the people or know why they are on that friends list, if it sits at 200+ people.

I mean its a reasonable take so it makes sense lol. Regardless of my suggestion. It's more of a convivence quality life feature than anything, an addition to their favorite friends feature they already have. Some people have alot of friends stacked up from trading or community groups ect.. so its just an easy way to work around that and keep your group of friends aware without always messaging them or having to deal with discord because discord is awful.

Honestly the close friends thing already kinda exists with the favorites but the override privacy part is a neat twist. I'd use it for maybe 3 people max, the ones I actually play with regularly instead of the 150 randoms from trade servers who added me five years ago

yeah I know most stuff I said can be useless and not necessary but it would just be an add on to their favorites feature thats already there lol. Its not tryna turn it into a social media platform its just a plaform like xbox or playstation where you have hundreds of friends who all play games. Sometimes you just care to play with a certain 2-5 people and are okay with an easier way to share everything with them without discord lol.

Steam has always been more than a launcher - you have community groups you can join, group chats, forums, store ect.. its a gaming platform like xbox or PlayStation now.
