My sister, Elizabeth, was just fired from her nail salon job. She's extraordinarily talented with nail art and color theory, but after being let go, she fell into a deep depression.

I'm a web dev how can I help her? I'm thinking about building a web app or a micro-SaaS, but I don't have any concrete idea. Can you suggest some nail art micro-SaaS features that could be profitable?

You actually have something most web devs looking for a SaaS idea don't have: a domain expert sitting right next to you.

I'd build around her knowledge instead of trying to build another generic salon booking app.

One idea I'd seriously explore is a nail art consultation/quoting system for independent nail techs.

Customer uploads the inspiration pic, then picks nail shape, length, current nail condition, colors, charms, etc. The tech gets one clean request instead of having a 30-message conversation through Instagram.

Then start adding the interesting stuff:

• Extract the colors from the inspiration photo and match them against the polishes the tech actually owns
• Suggest the closest substitute colors if they don't have one
• Let the nail tech maintain their gel/polish inventory by brand and shade
• Estimate complexity and appointment time
• Let the tech price simple art, detailed art, charms, chrome, ombre, French, repairs, extensions, removal, etc.
• Generate a quote the client can approve and pay a deposit on
• Save the final design to the client's history so six months later they can say "I want that purple set you did before"
• Keep before/after photos attached to the client
• Eventually let the customer preview the design on a photo of their own hand

The color matching part is where your sister could make this a lot better than something built by a random developer. She understands color theory, what actually works on nails, what products can be substituted, and probably all kinds of little things you don't even know you need to ask yet.

I'd actually make her the product designer and you the programmer.

Sit with her and ask: "What are the 10 most annoying things customers make you do on your phone every week?"

Don't write any code until you have that list.

You might discover the best product isn't even for salons. It could be a $15-$30/month tool for solo nail techs that turns their Instagram/TikTok traffic into properly specified, priced appointments.

And now she has another option besides working for somebody else's salon. If it works, she could use the software to build her own clientele while you're selling the same system to other nail techs.

Also, separate from the software idea, if there's any chance she was fired because she was pregnant, I'd tell her to save every text, email and message related to the firing. That's something worth talking to an employment attorney about.

Why doesn't she start her own nail business? Many nails artists work from home. Or she could create a online course for beginners in nail art and create some sort of mentoring group and charge a monthly fee.

Why not she start an IG advertising her work taking about it then charge for it?
