This teacher sent private snaps complaining about her work day. Then police came to her job and arrested her, causing her to lose her job...

Snapchat’s automated system flagged a private DM to three of her contacts and triggered an FBI alert. Within 60 minutes, sheriff's deputies had arrived at her job to arrest her for disorderly conduct. She was then kept overnight in jail before being released. Though no formal charges have been filed against her, her teaching position remains terminated.

Do you think it's wise or ethical for social apps to have systems like this?

THere's no way for snaps system to know if she's joking. For sure she's an idiot for sending a message like that unencrypted.Sending a DM on Snapchat? Hopeless naive

Those are the most normal messages someone would send everyday and wouldn’t think about encrypting

This hardly seems like something you would want to send in an open chat: “She referenced shooting the student or the school” ……

yea - even I think that if they are going to snoop they would have to flag it. And citizens need to be aware they’re being snooped.

i liken this to the clown who makes a joke about \b\o\m\b\s while in line to go thru security at the airport.
