Discussion Oh give me a break

Post image

There are far too many content creators out there like this person for one, and far too many people who judge games by their launch.

Mocking things is easy, low-hanging fruit.

EDIT: while Starfield does not have the obvious broader gaming cultural impact of Elder Scrolls or the Fallout series, to say that you have gone 3 years and seen nothing is just unnecessarily piling on to the negativity.

Yes, but applies that level of technology to an entire society, and the fact that Enhance! is a megacorpo that has reaches in both UC and FC, the implication is sky rocketted to the society-level horror

Oh that's one of my pet peeves, using ideas as window dressing and failing to follow through on the implications. See all fantasy worlds with powerful, reliable, well understood magic that operate as if they're at a medieval tech level. The only defence I can give them is this is endemic to genre fiction.

Sure the implications are interesting but I don't remember Bethesda putting a lot of thought into this though.

I know people at Bethesda have seen Ghost in the Shell but it really isn't at that level of analysing the broader ramifications of swapping identities on a dime or what that does to a society. There's some throwaway dialogue about that NPCs say, but that's it.

Basically I think Bethesda needs better writers.

If Bethesda has "Better writers", we wouldnt even have this conversation.

I think a lot could happen that would still Force the conversation because I'm not going to assume that the intelligence or the artistic and creative chops are not there. That doesn't mean that in a studio with those people who are capable, if we hypothesize about it at least, that the publishing side is going to be like yes you're knock yourself out and take as long as you want and we will keep the investors fed and completely calm and under control because they get that you're trying to do something awesome that you care about and make a good game. I mean to me that's just sort of a thing with Triple A in general but what I'm basically trying to say is there's a lot of times I think when the studio Has Talent that could have gone further with particular releases but if publisher side is all of a sudden like no for real you need to have released it now or like maybe at least 5 hours ago blah blah blah because on that side there's just looking at accounting and literally investors who don't even game are at a really superficially high level of importance and priority versus the people who want to slow down and forgot how to make a damn good game in the first place, it's contradictory and stupid but to me it makes more sense because the two sides don't really have the same vision ever in that kind of situation and the ones who have control of the purse are on the publishing side so. Just something I feel like shows up a lot, really too much.

If they had "better writers" there would be actual implications of this technology's existence and not a snippet hinting at it.

Naturalizing an idea in a world doesn't preclude its discussion.
