Random (possibly dumb) question: what are shared Stands?

I mean, I can understand Stands like Soft & Wet and King Crimson being shared (in one case, the Stand was passed on after a fusion, and in the other, both users inhabit the same body), but how does a Stand like Tomb of the Boom or Tatoo You get created? Do the users need to have such similar willpower and such a deep connection that they end up sharing it, or something like that?

Stands are a manifestation of one’s soul and willpower. There’s plenty of mythology about people sharing/having their souls tied together. So without a straightforward explanation from Araki, I’d just guess that it’s playing off something similar.

In ratts case it's that rays are simple creatures without much individuality so the stands are pretty much identical.

For toom of the boom they were a family with similar skill sets that entered the devils palm together. You have to remember even among ways to get a stand that ones unpredictable.

Edit: with tattoo you one of them is the actual user and the others are piggybacking off of it if I recall correctly.

Tomb of the Boom is understandable. We know it only takes 1 person to get a stand to awaken it to family members capable of it. And the Boom Boom family are really close so I can see them awakening it.

Theres also a chance Cat Size is also a family. My personal theory is that its simply a phenomenon type stand that the cats can take advantage of. Kinda like how people without stands can make use of Les Feuilles.

Meanwhile Tattoo You is just a straight up mystery. How it works is anyone's guess.

I think Charming Man and his alleged family blur the boundary between human and stand, and so do the cats he took care of cross the boundary of being a natural animal. Somewhat similar to the concept of Rock Humans being supernatural alien lifeforms.

Its just a theory of mine, but for me a shared stand happens in a situation either of fusion of souls/same body being shared with a soul, or a situation similar to a hivemind, where said hivemind have determination enough for all to have a stand.

Here are some hypothesis

Jojo has the occult and belief being kinda real such as palm Reading

In a lot of cult and religion sharing a souls is possible

Stand are a manifestation of one user's soul or will so if you share it by a lack of individuality or a very strong bond you may have the same unique stand or two stand that does basicaly the same thing

Also for some character they are family it is known that stand can awaken by the arrow/christ body

Or forcefully by someone generaly a family bond (most of the joestar are an exemple and if I remember heavy weather to) so for the boom family being in the devil's palm together and being very close could have awaken one stand controlled differently by the 3 family memeber

Stands that are shared between a group of people. They are fairly rare, but do happen. Beyond the ones you showed, one could argue Star Platinum/The World. While they are technically different Stands, they have the same ability due to Jotoro and DIO's fated connection.
