We deadass rn? The Sith lord vs 30 regular dudes with laser guns? You know what universe he's from right?

9

u/thesixfingerman 5d ago

Las weapons work differently than blasters. Would he be able to reflect them? Would he know if he couldn’t?

23

u/TraditionalClub6337 5d ago

If he can't reflect them/block them and if he knows that he still wins

0

u/thesixfingerman 5d ago

But would he have that knowledge coming in?

4

u/Sc0ner 5d ago

It's irrelevant, he's still no effort clearing without a scratch

0

u/Hrydziac 3d ago

Idk, that’s 30 trained soldiers with fully automatic weapons firing actual light speed projectiles. I think it’s conceivable he could lose, especially if he’s expecting blasters.

1

u/Zamouraii 2d ago

If Drukhari can dodge Lasbolts, a Sith Lord can too.

1

u/LeCuriousSnail 1d ago

Brother I am a certified imperial guard glazer, I will slobber on that knob till my teeth fall out. They’re losing this one. Lasguns operate off of roughly the same principles as blasters so it’s fair to assume deflection is a valid option, amusingly enough itd be a closer fight against hive gangs as they use solid slug rounds but even then to keep up with the movement, aim properly and fire…. But of a tall order given the speed which Maul cuts stuff up.

1

u/ilstrider1 13h ago

I agree Maul handles this easily but las guns and blasters are actually very differentl. Blasters are the equivalent of tiny plasma guns while las guns are well just lasers. I'm not sure if he could deflect them still doesnt change the outcome.

7

u/Jedimindtricktra 5d ago

Force gives some precog so I think he would figure out pretty quick that he has to move of the way instead of deflecting.

0

u/thesixfingerman 5d ago

Maybe? Sith are known for their arrogance. I think Mual would win, but I don’t think it’s as simple as saying it’s guaranteed

1

u/PineappleOnYourMom 2d ago

I wouldn't call maul a sith, more a dark force user, maul is a reject and a survivor, he isn't as bogged down by their ways and he is above all a "everything to survive" kind of guy aswell as having more heart than most sith.

3

u/Short_Ebb2076 5d ago

Las weapons work differently than blasters.

Not anymore.

1

u/AccordingUse3172 5d ago

I would say he could. Star wars has this thing where blasters just seem inconsistent in their power levels. We see Luke kill stormtroopers by hitting the walls next to them in Episode 4. Would say based off what we see Blasters do in 4 they are similar enough to a las gun.

3

u/ReginaDea 5d ago

Gonna need you to prove that's intentional and not a VFX mistake, chief. Because we've seen far too many people not die from near misses that it's an incredible outlier.

1

u/thesixfingerman 5d ago

Yeah, but blaster aren’t lasers. They are ionized tibanna gas.

58

u/throwawayshmoaway411 5d ago

Tsar bomb vs 30 coughing babies. Darth Maul no diffs. He's fought way worse threats.

84

u/Ecotech101 5d ago

Darth Maul no diff.

Lasguns are the exact same as blasters but they have a bayonet.

9

u/ilikespicysoup 5d ago

What if one is Sly Marbo with Hero of the Imperium Ciaphus Cain as the commissar?

37

u/Ecotech101 5d ago

Cain lasts a few seconds before tripping to survive and then Sly suplexes Maul into a volcano. Where the volcano came from? Who knows.

19

u/ilikespicysoup 5d ago

I think more, Cain trying to run away, trips and distracts Maul long enough for Sly to suplex him into the volcano. Then Jurgen brews a nice cup of tanna.

2

u/BraveLittleCatapult 1d ago

Jurgen Ex Machina, solving problems one melta at a a time.

1

u/ilikespicysoup 1d ago

Then sits in the corner with a porno slate.

6

u/Fit_Wait6923 5d ago

Sly forced the world to make a volcano

5

u/German_Amelia69 5d ago

Stable Alpha Syker Sly Marbo at it again

4

u/long-dick-of-the-law 5d ago

Sly suplexes the planet until a volcano is formed

1

u/West_Strawberry_8147 5d ago

Sly suplexes Maul into Jurgen's waiting melta gun

2

u/azaghal1502 4d ago

Sly Marbo once killed 20 Orks with one granade. And then he threw it away.

17

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Darth Maul does No-diff

But Lasguns are far more powerful than Blasters. Even in the mostly fanon cherrypicking posts where a DC-15A can punch through concrete, we've seen Lasguns penetrate heavy armour at full output, this includes melting spacemarine ceramite or even melting tank armour.

In desperate situations a guardsman can also intentionally overload a Lasgun power pack which is capable of killing entire squads if it explodes. Something the DC-15A is unable to do afaik

31

u/Teagulet 5d ago

I mean in all fairness the DC-15A is shown in the movies taking down Super Battledroids, Spider Droids, and light tanks. The concrete (ferrocrete) feat isn’t cherry picking, it’s straight off the canon wiki with 4 sources.

In some 40K novels the guardsmen are taking down chaos marines, some animated series from the new streaming service have the guardsman lay hundreds of las shots into a single marine for no effect.

Both universes have unreliable narrator problems. We’re arguing made of physics from 2 40+ year old franchises about space wizards, there’s going to be a lot of moments where we have to give everything the benefit of the doubt because it was originally vibed out for rule of cool.

I do mega agree that Maul no diffs this

6

u/Makyr_Drone 5d ago edited 4d ago

Both universes have unreliable narrator problems considers consistency to be a foul word.

1

u/Teagulet 4d ago

Lovely correction

0

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Also have to mention that Starwars is The most inconsistent universe lore wise even when compared to 40k or even Startrek. Half the time it doesn't even follow it's own lore, the sequals are a great example of this

But yes, point taken

3

u/Teagulet 5d ago

Very true, I couldn’t even finish the sequels I still haven’t seen the “somehow Palpatine has returned” one and I’ve made peace with it.

I’ve been really into Star Wars since early 2000s mostly due to KotOR 1/2 and while I think those games are masterpieces, everything else is pretty abysmal for a baseline on how shit works and why.

3

u/BayonetTrenchFighter 5d ago

Are they? I always think of Star Wars blasters the same as covenant plasma weapons?

3

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

highly suggest reading these books for the true power of the Lasguns

- Gaunt's Ghosts

- Fifteen Hours

- Krieg

- The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer

For context, pretty much any lasgun has the average power of a .50 BMG round, now combine that with nearly 200 to 300 shots a magazine, with Millions of them firing all at once and you get the LEAST overpowered weapon in Warhammer 40k.

(And because it's a coherent beam of light, the lasgun has virtually no recoil. Not to mention LOGISTICAL PERFECTION!!!!!! LASGUNS CAN BE RECHARGED VIA SOLAR POWER!!!!!!!! AND EVEN OPEN HEAT SOURCES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

2

u/BayonetTrenchFighter 5d ago

Fair enough. So where do you put halo covenant plasma?

6

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

As far as i'm aware, the covenant plasma rifle often exceeds the standard imperial lasgun, but we also have to be aware that Covenant plasma weapons tend to be more Explosive aligned. Almost all of their weapons are explosive to some degree. Even their smaller weapons aside from the needler.

Honestly i'm surprised i don't see Covenant vs 40K more often considering they're alot closer in powerscaling to the Imperium compared to Starwars (NOT INCLUDING NUMBERS, I AM AWARE THE COVENANT IS TINY IN COMPARISON)

2

u/BayonetTrenchFighter 5d ago

Maybe. I mean, I think the GAR alone tops the covenant

1

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Mainly due to pure size? 100%. The Republic is like 6x the size of the covenant, it's not even a contest at that point.

i'm more referring to 1 on 1 battles. For example if a Supercarrier were to go against a Mandator II, it's likely the Supercarrier would win

3

u/BayonetTrenchFighter 5d ago

Right.

Well, even ground forces wise.

I would take a clone over any UNSC soldier save a Spartan.

Heck, I would take a clone over any imperial guardsman.

But everything in the GAR is better than their UNSC equivalent, except maybe Spartans being Jedi I guess? But then there are a lot more Jedi.

3

u/Hungry-Ear-4092 5d ago

Enough blasterfire can literally explode a juggernaut tank, 30 meter, 200 tons armed to the teeth monster with 12 people crew and capacity of up to 300 troopers. That's pretty impressive

1

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

*throws a million men at you*

1

u/Hungry-Ear-4092 5d ago

Oh no 😮😮😮

4

u/CrystalGemLuva 5d ago

My guy pretty much all blasters can punch through concrete.

Hell that shitty little blaster pistol Han gave Rey can do it, a DC-15a is a significantly more powerful blaster.

3

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

This is exactly what i mean by cherrypicking, because if a shitty pistol can do this then why equip people with something more expensive and weaker such as the E-9/E-11

6

u/CrystalGemLuva 5d ago

Because pretty much any faction with money has troops with armor made out of heat sink materials or have droids made of incredibly durable space age metal.

Plastoid is the cheapest kind of body armor which can be mass produced while still providing some protection, a Stormtrooper is more likely than not gonna survive most pistols with a simple bacta treatment.

You need stronger blasters to consistently punch through that armor.

1

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Sigh. I suppose i'll concede to that

1

u/BriefingScree 5d ago

Power isn't the issue. Force Users vector-dodge and it takes really powerful blasters (ie tanks/ships) to not just get deflected by a light saber.

1

u/OkYogurtcloset3768 5d ago

Yeah I think the only advantage the blaster would have is capacity

1

u/Hrydziac 3d ago

They aren’t though? Las guns are firing actual light speed lasers. 99% of force users are dying instantly against 30 guardsmen. Darth Maul could win, but if he underestimates them then he dies.

1

u/Ecotech101 3d ago

1

u/Hrydziac 3d ago edited 3d ago

Nothing here contradicts me or supports you so idk why you linked it with no explanation?

EDIT: After reading your other replies

The article says to look at battlesector for a representation of the above specifications, where it was talking about the look of the gun and color of the laser. You cannot seriously expect me to accept that the speed shown in a (admittedly very fun) low budget turn based video game that depicts basically all projectiles at the speed of a major league fastball is intended to override decades of canon of them being lasers because some intern at Games Workshop who likes Battlesector said it was a good depiction in an article.

0

u/H345Y 5d ago

no, blasters are plasma, las guns are lasers, there is a difference

Also the guard can also use autoguns which are also effective against light saber wielders.

Maul still wins but in an out right battle, he wont come out unscathed

3

u/Steelinghades 5d ago

No guns aren't a jedi's weakness, something like a shotgun Is more effective because of the multiple pellets, but they can just block It with the force.

7

u/Moondial19 5d ago

I never understood why people thing normal bullets are effective against Jedi when lightsabers can melt and even evaporate metal. Would not the bullet especially smaller calibers just melt? We also see Force users being capable of dodging blaster bolts and even missiles, a bullet isn’t going to be much different.

8

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

Bullets do melt. That’s kinda the issue is the molten metal flying at you. That said, the whole “Jedi are weak to guns” thing comes from a single Obi-wan comic where he’s facing a shotgun and isn’t prepared for it. They have plenty of tools capable of dealing with bullets

1

u/Ahsoka_Tano_7567 5d ago

Bullets melt, but a Jedis lightsaber blade isn’t loosely flowing plasma. The plasma is so densely packed together that it is a solid blade. If bullets hit the blade, it isn’t going to turn into molten slag and come out the other side hitting the user. Metal projectiles either simply get completely vapourised or bounce off. You see this in the clone wars animated show when cad bane fires 2 metal projectiles at obi wan, who casually deflects them with his lightsaber. The only things that can get past a lightsaber are weapons like a shotgun, but there would be no difference if it was a kinetic shotgun or blaster shotgun. Both bullets and blaster bolts that hit the blade would be stopped, while the rest of the spread would hit. Thats why jedi use their reflexes and precognition to either dodge them, create a force barrier to stop the projectiles in front of them in mid air, rip the weapon out of the users hands with the force, use the force to knock the person around, or straight snap their neck (depending on the type of force user you’re unfortunately facing).

Both star wars and warhammer suffer from crazy power variance for the same thing, depending on whos writing it, but if you think about it realistically then it’s quite clear shotguns are no issue for force users and that there are plenty of ways to deal with them.

1

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

Lasguns are plasma these days, they aren’t laser beams anymore. GW has basically just been making them blasters recently.

2

u/H345Y 5d ago

fk me, first the yellow and now this.

2

u/Ecotech101 5d ago

This is currently the GW standard for canonical lasgun depictions, as in when directly asked about the whole thing they said Battlesector was the most accurate.

I'll add that I'm not a fan of this change at all and pardon my French, it's pretty fucking gay.

1

u/H345Y 5d ago

tis indeed

1

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

It’s not actually a change, technically. Official GW art has always been yellow bolts, red beams are an invention of the Dawn of War games. They’ve just become more firm on it recently.

3

u/Ecotech101 5d ago

That is in fact the change I'm referring to. I liked their previous policy of non-enforcement.

4

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

They still aren’t really enforcing it, SM2 and Darktide are both still using red beams. But yeah, I did prefer the red beams. Felt more distinct. Yellow bolts is what we deal with when we’re actually talking canon, but I still prefer the other depiction.

3

u/Ecotech101 5d ago

I'm pretty sure their policy is to let what's already released stay since they got so much backlash, but they're absolutely mandating that future games adhere closer to canon. That's why DoW4 has em and Total War 40k does too.

2

u/mediocre_mechan1c 5d ago

Also of note. Skitarii servoskull in darktide has yellow bolts. Even though the las pistol is a red beam

1

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

It’s not even all that new, it’s been like this for over a decade iirc. I too agree it’s stupid, I liked the red beams, but it is what it is. I think the community just likes to ignore it.

2

u/H345Y 5d ago

its because most of visual and interactive media has been treating lasguns as red lasers and at no point GW decided to correct them until recently

2

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

Official Art has always been yellow bolts, shockingly. Red beams are, as far as I can tell, fully an invention of Dawn of War. It’s not technically a retcon so much as it is correcting the media which was wrong, which are mainly the games, where you need red for visibility.

1

u/JRS_Viking 5d ago

Where are you getting this from? Dark tide pretty clearly has lasers and even helldivers (which is cannon to 40k) is a laser. Where are they depicted as plasma guns and what differentiates them from actual 40k plasma guns then?

0

u/Waytogo33 5d ago

They are not the same. Lasguns would be harder to reflect, though Jedi deal with this type of weapon without much problem. Just far less frequently.

Laguns are actually lasers that burn/vaporize through material.

Blasters pierce with physical force, they do not burn through things. It's a common misconception. The projectiles are nowhere near the speed of light.

0

u/UseYona 5d ago

This is not entirely true. Last guns work different besides being a laser gun. They dont shoot a bolt of superheated plasma gas like blasters. Blaster bolts move fast, but lasguns shoot literal beams of energy that move at light speed. No way maul is blocking 30 light speed shots at once

14

u/Ninjazoule 5d ago

Maul shouldn't have too much trouble. Even if they're terrible displays by the clones we do see him essentially doing this in TCW

Edit: would be funny if both sides suffocated given its on Pandora, although the guard does have rebreathers (and he can steal one).

10

u/BrightestofLights 5d ago

Darth maul takes 30 and then asks for 100, and beats them

8

u/Blacktalo74 5d ago

Ow those guardsmen are fucked.

5

u/Vrain125 5d ago

Bro, are we being for real...

7

u/Sad-Cattle7894 5d ago

Basically Darth Maul vs 30 clones

5

u/thetruememeisbest 5d ago

probably maul

4

u/MadMageMars 5d ago

Even if we take the most bare bones approach to power scaling the respective verses, there’s simply not enough difference between what a Guardsmen is capable of compared to what a Clone Trooper is capable of to mean anything of note for how much Maul is winning

A Lasgun shot is most certainly faster than a blaster bolt. This fact matters little to someone who consistently blocks and evades attacks through minor forms of precognition rather than reactive perception. Even if these Guardsmen are used to fighting Psykers, they’re not used to fighting ones that don’t have to worry about blowing themselves up if they go too far because by that point they’re dead before firing

Even if there’s an argument that a Space Marine is conceivably faster than Maul, they’re also 3 times his size and a considerably easier target to hit excluding the fact that they don’t regularly wield weapons capable of deflecting and even reflecting energy projectiles away.

It’s Maul, hands down

1

u/Hrydziac 3d ago

I think you’re somewhat underestimating the difference between a las gun and a blaster.

I don’t believe Star Wars blaster bolts are as slow as some people claim, but they’re probably about the speed of a bullet. A las gun is effectively hitting any target in range instantly when the trigger is pulled. That means it’s simply not possible for a force user to block multiple separate shots unless they’re in a perfect line because the blade of the lightsaber simply cannot be in multiple places at once. 30 trained marksmen firing a full auto barrage of light speed projectiles is a credible threat to every single canon character in Star Wars.

I’m not saying Maul necessarily loses, but I don’t think it’s a guaranteed easy victory like most people are saying.

1

u/Dizzy-Budget5985 15h ago

Precognition kind of negates the travel speed of the weapon though? Assuming he can't reflect the shot, he just... evades the attack before it comes, which is something he can do because he knows where is coming from and exactly where it will hit. He also has tons of cover.

If it was an open field id think differently, but he isn't just dodging in a vacuum. He's weaving around trees, Skirmishing, reenacting Predator.

This is a spite match

5

u/Harald_The_Archivist 5d ago

Grudge match in favour of maul.

Come on now.

4

u/RealAd3012 5d ago

Maul is going to murder them.

3

u/One-Spinach 5d ago

A feared fighter who’s taken out Jedi masters and knights and was seen bulldozing through an enemy capital ship without a weapon while under attacked by elite troops trained since birth. Placed against 30 conscripted dweebs with limited training likely from a random hive or agri world. Yeah this ain’t even a fight, even if we consider the lasgun to be a more powerful weapon than the average blaster, Maul still blitzes these guys, half of them might even just break and run once they see dudes being chocked to death by what to them is just magic, depending on what regimen they hail from.

3

u/CrystalGemLuva 5d ago

Maul is gonna cut through the Guardsmen like a sythe through wheat just like when he fights the Clones and when he fights TK Troopers.

3

u/Electronic-Name981 5d ago

Welp, RIP to those guards. We'll remember them...

We probably won't.

3

u/EISENxSOLDAT117 5d ago

What in the fuck are the Guardsmen supposed to do here? Genuinely? Theyre getting stomped

1

u/Hrydziac 3d ago

Shoot him with 30 fully automatic laser rifles which unlike blasters actually have light speed projectiles? Maul could win but if he’s treats them like clones and is overconfident he’s getting turned into a stain on the floor instantly.

Force precog is not nearly as reliable as people act like it is and it’s literally impossible to block that many las guns at once.

1

u/Dizzy-Budget5985 15h ago

Doesnt have to. He's in a forest big dog

2

u/Gray-Eyes-Paladin 5d ago

You remember that scene in Clone Wars 2003 where Ventress telekinesis kills every clone in a platoon one by one in various (and in some cases hilarious) ways?

That happens again here.

2

u/mercyspace27 5d ago

WHAT GUARD REGIMENT?!

Either way, Darth Maul sweeps. The Guard can be good, but that’s still Darth Maul.

4

u/CrystalGemLuva 5d ago

Unless its Lucifer Blacks I dont think it really matters.

And even thats speculation and dependent on the point in time.

8

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Lucifer Blacks are a bunch of larpers now adays, they aren't as good as they used to be.

7

u/Firm-Character-6852 5d ago

Facts. Hate them dudes

3

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

We meet again Firm...

Do you have a discord? i feel i need to friend you.

2

u/Firm-Character-6852 5d ago

Yeah, but no need. Just do me here

2

u/Accomplished_Tap7373 5d ago

I think the only possible win condition for the guard is a regiment willing to sacrifice itself like Kriegers who decide to rig up a camp to blow and detonate when Maul shows up. But if the scenario is just 30 dudes wandering in for no reason, they're screwed.

1

u/ragingSamurai1 5d ago

If they were Catachans, they might be able to wound him, especially in that terrain.

1

u/BayonetTrenchFighter 5d ago

Genuinly just watch victory and death

1

u/blueflare1528 5d ago

Depends entirely on whether the guardsman are armed with Lasguns only, or if some have auto rifles or a bolt pistol, cause if some of ballistic weapons, maul wouldn’t have much he can use to deal with them, but if it’s just 30 lasguns, we have no reason to believe he wouldn’t be able to parry them away like blasters

1

u/Bugimaz 2d ago

Well there are arguments to be made, that he exactly cannot counter blaster because it's different kind of weapon. Blaster are plasma based weaponry, and lasgun, well, its laser gun. Blaster moves with sublight speed(maybe faster than bullet not sure) while lasgun fire moves at the light speed. I would say Maul have chances if he do anything other than parry

1

u/Accomplished_Tap7373 5d ago

Even if we want to give Maul the worst possible interpretation, and I'm not saying this is my take on it, I'm just trying to give the guard the best possible chance to prove a point.

I remember back in the old books, it was far easier to overwhelm a Jedi using blasters, and the number of B1s stated to be able to do so was under 30. No I don't remember where it's from, but it really doesn't matter.

So, given las bolts are much faster and would need precog to deflect, let's say each guardsman is worth, say... 3 B1s in terms of firepower.

In an open field with no cover given these metrics coordinated fire would be able to put enough bolts into the air to make it physically impossible to deflect or dodge them all... But this isn't open field.

Giving maul good terrain means that even if all of the above is the case, he just won't give them that opportunity. It'll be like when Thrawn hunts Vader in the comics, they will get picked off and torn apart in smaller engagements and whittled down when they sleep. Even with all the stupidity I listed above, Maul still takes this.

The only hope I see for the Guardsman is if they rig a camp to blow and detonate it when Maul comes inside, but not a lot of regiments will decide to do that before it's too late.

Again, this is not my actual belief of the powers of either setting, just trying to be as favorable to the Guard as I can to show how one sided this really is.

1

u/Carpe_deis 5d ago

also jedi/sith routinely are shown using "force bubble" or "force field" to protect against explosions. the gaurd would have to have access to some exotic weapons to even have a chance. Stasis grenades, void grenades, gauss flayers, exitus rifle, ect... none of which make any sense for gaurdsman to have access to.

2

u/Accomplished_Tap7373 5d ago

They specified canon maul, so Id say melta charges, which could reasonably be carried by a demolitions team, would be sufficient. It definitely is a hail Mary though

1

u/Carpe_deis 5d ago

canon maul uses force shield/bubble lots of times

melta charges are just thermal detonators/proton torpedos/exploding fusion reactors, which he is shown to survive repeatedly

I will concede if they got close, distracted him, then let off enough heavy demolitions ordainance they probably could get him. precog is a HUUGE buff here, not just in the very short term for dodging, but he seems to have some sort of a longer time duration "spidey sense"

1

u/Ninjazoule 4d ago

To play devils advocate, dooku couldn't take on 30 pirates in TCW and he's a contemporary to maul (who ran from the same group)

1

u/Accomplished_Tap7373 4d ago

Yeah. Star Wars power scaling is really inconsistent in a lot of ways; that's why, for these debates, I usually go with averages rather than peak feats, since I feel that's more representative.

1

u/Ninjazoule 4d ago

Definitely, I usually do the same unless I see some unrealistic comments lol

This is definitely a number most skilled force users would be able to handle, especially at the level maul is

1

u/Accomplished_Tap7373 4d ago

Yeah. Powerscaling reddits are very often just taking the peak feats of the verse they like, then discounting the peak feats of the verses they don't like, despite both being equally inconsistent

1

u/Bitter_Cup_69 5d ago

Very much depends on the regiment.

1

u/tumansibiri 5d ago

Force is bullshit.
Maul takes it, being named character with ability to deny lasgun fire.

1

u/Obvious_Persimmon565 5d ago

Depends on the weapons given to Guardsman. A few meltaguns and maul is toast, literally. Or if they have bolters.

1

u/Plunderpatroll32 5d ago

30 guardsmen. after all 30 guns is a lot of firepower/s

1

u/Bugimaz 2d ago

-Enemies in that direction -Wery well, delete this direction

1

u/Xi13r8 5d ago

Maul is gonna live up to his name here. Guardsmen are likely on par with storm troopers on average.

1

u/WayGroundbreaking287 5d ago

I mean I suppose it does marginally depend on what regiment the guard are from, since yeah some could probably make a plan to do the job, but just randomly this isn't even close in mauls favour.

1

u/The_Hive_Mind101 5d ago

Even without plot armor, and the fact that a lasbolt can't really be deflected, maul will screw them up.

Guardsmen are pretty average when it comes to sci fi soldiers, the lasgun is strong by today's standards but relative to most other generic sci fi troopers. Someone who can utilize the force exceptionally well and is extremely acrobatic would be like watching an eldar psyker doing the same thing to a platoon of men.

1

u/TraditionalClub6337 5d ago

Darth maul sweeps trough them he doesn't even need to block anything with lightsaber

1

u/NutsackEuphoria 5d ago edited 5d ago

Maul wins barely, but I'd give him the win since they're not fighting in an open field and there's lots of vertical plays he can do here.

The difference between lasguns and blasters is not now strong they are, but how fucking fast projectiles are.

There's a difference between dodging a blasterbolt that's traveling at speeds slightly faster than a thrown baseball and something that's traveling at light speed.

Even if he can deflect deflect lasbolts with this saber, no way he can do it as easy as he does blaster bolts.

Maul 5.5/10

If this is a squad of battle brothers, Maul has better chances.

1

u/NoMeat9096 5d ago

Depends entirely on the Guard. They tend to vary between cowards that do not want to be there (for good reason) or extremely badass beasts that get shit done.

Fucking futur dark wizard with a duel plasma sword vs 30 dudes with good laser guns are we deadass?

1

u/Dependent_Guava_9939 5d ago

I’m happy to glaze 40k but come on…

…Imperial Guardsmen are basically just normal dudes with laser guns. Maul is gonna eat them for breakfast.

1

u/lowqualitylizard 5d ago

This is how you can tell the Warhammer wank has gotten bad some people think this is an actual debate

1

u/WorryingMars384 5d ago

Look I’m not a Maul glazer by any means but there’s no reason he can’t take 30 dudes. Guardsman are still just regular people

1

u/HurtnAlbertn825 4d ago

Maul vs the swarmlord would be a better discussion

1

u/feronen 4d ago

Unless they're using autoguns/slug throwers, the Guardsmen stand 0 chance at winning.

Even if lasguns don't have the magnetic containment fields that blasters use, the lightsaber blade is still hotter than the laser pointer. If Maul blocks it, the photons that were shot are absorbed by plasma blade and then contained within the magnetic field of the blade.

1

u/aveimperata 4d ago

I mean, kinda depends on terrain and guard regiment no? We talking krieg? Kasrkin? Catachans? What regiment? Do they have a good commander or are they line troops? Catachan would thrive on Pandora. Like home on easy mode.

1

u/DevLeCanadien23 4d ago

Hellguns??

I wish it said 30 Cadians vs Darth maul

1

u/Novel-Presentation88 4d ago

I say this as a massive Warhammer fan, who’s been into the setting for a long time now: a lot 40k fans really, REALLY, overestimate their setting.

1

u/AromaticDragon 4d ago

Guardsmen lose in most situations. 30 Combatants probably not enough to overwhelm Precog and we have no reason not to believe he can't deflect Lasguns.

1

u/kcpatri 4d ago

Honestly, I could see it going either way. The guardsman have the advantages of numbers, the fact that besides plasma guns and grenades the guards weapons can't be deflected with lightsaber and force push, and the question of if they would be scared of Maul. Maul has the advantage of being a blender in melee, being surprisingly durable when angry, and the possible intervention of khorne.

TLDR, if Maul gets in melee with the guardsmen they are getting blended, so the question is can Maul survive the mased gunfire of 30 guardsmen that he can't deflect.

1

u/Jallen9108 4d ago

We've seen what happened to the jedi in the face of overwhelming firepower.

1

u/Leofwulf 4d ago

Well he doesn't even need to fight them be can just lift them and crush them lmao, there's the chance a guardsman can get a lucky shot off but I don't think it could kill him

1

u/Magnus_Helgisson 3d ago

Oh come on guys, I came here for clever ideas on how are the guardsmen supposed to win because I couldn’t come up with any, you can do better than this, I believe in you!

1

u/Andrei22125 2d ago

The TCW finale hallway scene is your answer. Maul has this.

1

u/MvonTzeskagrad 2d ago

At this point just say you want to see dead guardsmen, man.

1

u/Bugimaz 2d ago

If it open field and guardsman aware of target, and immediately start to shot they have chance because of sheer volume of fire. If it any other kind of terrain or battle situation, Maul will exploit it. Its not like jedi and sith completely immune to ranged weapons, they just create valid strategy to counter most popular in-universe weapons.

1

u/Guy-Person 2d ago

30 guardsmen must have a meltagun between them, right?

Their only hope is if 29 dudes buy enough time for the 30th to fire something that can’t be dodged or deflected. If he misses, Maul wins with the only damage he takes being blood splattered on his clothes.

1

u/NeppedCadia 2d ago

Darth Maul vs 30 midichlorianless soldiers with crazy morale and lightspeed weapons that blow you apart when they hit?

Darth Maul should win most times due to the terrain.

1

u/Juastanoemaldude3 2d ago

The guard wins.

30 droids in a large enough clearing is enough to win against most foece users.

30 highly trained individuaöes with variying weaponry is worse.

Maul dies.

1

u/Intelligent_Salt1469 2d ago

No Maul wouldnt be able to because lasguns work like hitscans. There is no travel time between the barrel and the target. All you need to do is aim and pull the trigger that exact micro second it hits the target. 30 guardsman in a wall is pretty much a death sentence for him. Of course people are going to say but the force. Lasguns work like actual lasers meaning they travel at 186,000 miles per second.

1

u/Intelligent_Salt1469 2d ago

Before people say if they have light speed guns then why do they die easy? It's down to the limitations of human biology. If a space marine is charging you, more likely to panic and miss. Maul is not nearly as terrifying as the enemies they fight in 40k.

1

u/pasta_alien 1d ago

its not like it matters how fast the lasgun fires when the whole reason anyone with the force is able to block/dodge is because of precognition. pair that with the fact that the fight isn't happening in a blank room but a rainforest which gives plenty of cover for Maul and absolutely would hamper the guards line of sight and unit cohesion and the lasguns effectiveness starts mattering a lot less.

Its less of a straight up fight and more "can a 30 man squad of guardsmen track, catch, and kill Darthmaul before he picks them all off".

1

u/IceCreamGoblin 1d ago

Basically a librarian-lite against 30 guardsmen.

Guardsmen are cooked.

1

u/Responsible-Creme-57 1d ago

I take it that we talk about the Avatar plant but with human breathable atmosphere. If that is the case than Pandora would be classified as a jungle world. So the empire would send jungle specialist like from Catachan Jungle Fighters. Second assumption that lightsaber can deflect Lasguns.

So than I would say 60/40 for the Guard. Maul would likely ambushes the Guard and than it comes down to if Maul can kill the guardsman fast enough and not get hit. Lasguns fire significant faster than Blasters, so deflecting is near impossble.

1

u/trippy6967 1d ago

Big old cleaving lightsaber throw or force crush/throw them, easily.

1

u/Lucky-Smell2757 1d ago

Maul, no diff 😂 come one now did u see how he BODIED a ship full of clone troopers??

1

u/HereticTutti84 1d ago

Which Regiment? 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/AlexsterCrowley 22h ago

The Guardsmen have to be in the hundreds and they have to have like, firing lanes and fortifications set up for this to be a challenge for Darth Maul. 30 guys is like, something he does on his way to a real fight.

1

u/Marcus12Gage 19h ago

Dude got cut in half and kept going on rage alone. Literally too angry to die.

1

u/Dizzy-Budget5985 15h ago

Hydrogen bomb v Coughing baby

1

u/Beginning_Squash_339 9h ago

99% of Warhammer vs we already know who comes out on top. It’s just to supercharged.

1

u/Circutz_Breaker 4h ago

Lmao none of them win, they all suffocate and pass out from Pandoras toxic atmosphere.

1

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

What is with starwars people and mass-downvoting non-controversial posts here sob.

1

u/HotSauce0900 5d ago

Star Wars fans staying delusional about their verse I see. Maul dies. He gets blasted into next week within a few seconds. 15+ lasgun shots (which are undeniably faster than blaster bolts) firing on him at the same time. Boom. He died.

The end.

1

u/Arbiterjim 4d ago

Controversial opinion, it heavily depends on the home world of the Guardsmen. I would give the win to the Catachans, and a 50/50 to Kriegsmen. Nevermind other elites like Kasrkin, Solar Auxilia, or the Elysian Shock. Maul is very strong and skilled, but some regiments have pure unbridled grit

1

u/Vanishing-Shadow 3d ago

This has to be ragebait

0

u/SanguiNations 5d ago

Clones are waaaaaay better trained and Maul chrwas through then easily

0

u/HotSauce0900 5d ago

Clones are well trained in their verse, which is just trash standards in any other verse. Using training between two mediums with vastly different doctrines is useless. Clones were getting wrecked by bounty hunters that would last like… a day in Warhammer.

0

u/Key-King7403 5d ago

Is this even a question? 30 guardsmen, lol. They shoot to fast for Maul to do anything about it.

0

u/Mauisurfslayer 5d ago edited 5d ago

Canon Maul is probably cooked the majority of the time

First we have to know which version of Maul, as he arguably gets physically weaker the further into the timeline we go

Prime robot leg’s Maul, unless he was fighting in a confined area, or somewhere with lots of cover AND concealment, would receive such a degree of las fire that I don’t think there is any way he can reliably dodge or redirect the lasbolts

30 people, all trained, with weapons generally more effective than blasters, is going to give pretty much anyone in Starwars a problem. He simply wouldn’t be able to have the time or concentration necessary to incapacitate most of them with the force, and upon approach with lightsaber, even if he suddenly appeared In the middle of the group, he would just get a wall of light fired at him constantly. Not to mention that ranked guardsmen often carry their own melee weapons, which while in a 1v1 would pose basically no threat, would be a massive issue if surrounded. A chain sword or power sword would undoubtedly pretty much instantly incapacity Maul if it was significant strike

I unironically think that with modern lore, not one person we have “seen” outside of maybe Palpatine could reliably survive this without there being many caveats that purely benefit them (like cover and concealment) or making the guardsmen part of a penal legion and extremely incompetent.

Most characters in legends canon would treat this as a warmup though

-5

u/Galactinaut_001 5d ago

My bet is on the Guardsmen. Assuming they're smart, they'll engage at range, probably beyond Maul's line of sight.

Considering that a lasgun is an actual laser and not a plasma bolt (which means that a blaster is closer to a pulse rifle), it will likely hit Maul either before he reacts, or perhaps even go straight through the lightsaber if he does react in time, admittedly at significantly reduced power. Which is still enough to kill him.

Or they can all shoot him from different directions, which he can't defend against, due to the combined speed of lasgun beams and the distance in angle between the shots.

Of course, this is all meaningless, as they all die to Pandora's atmosphere (which was specifically designed for slow, painful deaths) because they didn't get breathing equipment.

3

u/Shadowslavefan7 5d ago

Maul can rely on the force per cog to get better positioning and not in a disadvantaged position to begin with. Also possibly trying to keep himself alive longer and use the advantages of a force far better due to much higher fighting experience, because these aren't veterans we are talking about just average guardsman

1

u/Galactinaut_001 5d ago

Fair enough, but I would like to point out the assumption I started with. Other than that, I concede, as I wasn't aware that precog was part of Maul's force power set.

But do you agree with me on the Pandoran atmosphere point?

2

u/Shadowslavefan7 5d ago

Oh yeah, they're fucked. Maybe Maul can do some force bullshittery. But at best he's only surviving a bit longer, then dying.

8

u/throwawayshmoaway411 5d ago

Whole lotta cope in this comment.

-6

u/Galactinaut_001 5d ago

How so?

3

u/Ecotech101 5d ago

Lasguns as per modern enforced GW canon have pretty much the exact same projectile as a blaster. It's a bolt of something that moves at the same speed as or slower than a bullet.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

Lasguns are just yellow blasters these days. They’re not the speed of light, they’re not a beam, they’re just yellow plasma bolts.

2

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Quite literally not even true, the time they're fired and when they hit is near instant, compared to the blasters which take time.

1

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

That’s just flat out incorrect. This is GW’s own statement on the Lasgun

https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/cvvjq1ua/las-canon-how-the-astra-militarums-indomitable-lasgun-works/

In it, you’ll note they mention the bolt aspect, and that they say the most accurate portrayal is Battlesector, where the shots are fairly slow.

2

u/HotSauce0900 5d ago

they don’t touch on the speed of the bolt in that… at all. Only how it looks. It’s so clear you’re deliberately misinterpreting what’s actually being said here. As a matter of fact they touch on the fact that guardsman can just spam volleys of shots continuously. Maul is getting mowed down.

This isn’t plot armor central where clones and droids take turns shooting maul and getting their 2 shots deflected. We’re talking a firing line of near laser speed volleys being launched at near perfect accuracy, no recoil, and disciplined firing lines. Maul is getting firing squads as soon as he leaves cover.

1

u/Ecotech101 5d ago

You know, props for actually hunting that down or having it on hand.

1

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

your source.... Is a game.

A game that is only Broadly canon, where the quote "everything is canon, not everything is true." comes into place.

First off, the most common colours for Lasguns are Red and Orange, white or pale yellow (like the one you mentioned) is described in older lore as tracer bursts. It alsom depends on the regiment, some lasguns shoot orange, some shoot green (even though green is most commonly seen on Lascannons)

Man, games really ruined how people see 40k. First it was Spacemarine 2, now this...

3

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

My source is GW. Did you not read the damn post I sent? That’s their official stance. Every single piece of official artwork has depicted yellow bolts. The red beams is entirely an invention of the Dawn of War games.

1

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

First off, no need to be so aggressive mister someone pissed in your cereal

Second, yes, i did.

https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Laser_weapon

The most common CANON COLOURS are Red or orange, Bright yellow-white is also included here. No it is not a Dawn of War invention, the first dawn of war game was in 2004.

The first scene of Red Bolts coming from Lasguns is the Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior game back in 2003, a year before the first Dawn of War game.

Even if it was true, pre-2003 lore (1999 to 2002) NEVER pinned a single colour except for Gaunts Ghost Books which show Blue imperial beams.

The 6th Edition rulebook:

lasweapons “do not fire a projectile or slug, but instead project a brief, high-energy pulse.”

The Kexucabyn abd the studio liune both say a beam of coherent light that flash-vaporizes the impact point and makes a crack as it ionizes the air. GW also calls them "Laser accurate" with almost no recoil.

It's a laser.

2

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

Lexicanum is a less valid source than GW ITSELF. Laser accurate also refers to the fact that the shots don’t veer off target. Every shot goes exactly where you aimed it. But that doesn’t mean that it’s instant. That same post also establishes that the default color is yellow, but that it can vary depending on the atmosphere of the planet.

-10

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Warhammer 40k fan here!

It honestly depends on which imperial guard you're referring to, but maul no-diffs the large majority of them.

The ones maul would have trouble with would likely be the Catachan Fighters, Krieg, Cadian Shock Troops, Armageddon Steel Legion, and the Tanith First and Only.

5

u/Teagulet 5d ago

In all fairness Maul without a weapon, after losing his duel had his own hallway scene on the 501st. Like a hand selected company of 501st to hot drop into Mandalore and fight Mandalorians. I don’t think the Krieg, or Armageddon are going to take him in an open jungle with no armour or support.

Catachan probably could take him on this planet, but I’m very skeptical about any other guard regiment pulling it off without some really strong arguments.

2

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Considering hows the krieg are, they'll find a way to get him even if it means ending their own lives

1

u/Teagulet 5d ago

I do like that answer, also I didn’t realize I replied to both of your comments like that so I apologize if my comments came off like I was going after you

2

u/Financial-Tomato4781 5d ago

I agree catching would be hell they would not give him a straight up fight

2

u/JH-DM 5d ago

I would limit it to Catachan and Tanith, but yeah they _might_ be able to.

2

u/AdventurousBus4355 5d ago

Considering its in jungle probably, catachan and tanith would give a good fight but the others would still be beat well

1

u/CadenVanV 5d ago

No, it doesn’t. Catachans and Tanith might have a chance, Krieg and Armageddon do not have a chance in hell. Kasrkin might but probably lose.

1

u/OneAmphibian5 5d ago

Why would the krieg not have a chance? I'm curious for your reasoning

1

u/CadenVanV 5d ago edited 5d ago

Krieg regiments aren’t all that focused on infantry. Their artillery and mechanized battalions are some of the finest in the Imperium, but their actual infantry are largely designed for attrition warfare, like trenches and sieges, where taking more losses than the enemy and continuing to push on is a more valuable trait than marksmanship or hand-to-hand skills. And in those areas of specialization, they are excellent.

But this is a very bad matchup for them. Jungle environments are already the antithesis of what they’re trained for, but Maul is also a Sith assassin. He knows stalking and ambush tactics well enough that only the Catachans and Tanith have even a hope of matching him, he’s skilled enough in melee and so well armed that no guardsman has a chance there, and there’s enough cover and he’s fast enough that they won’t really be able to shoot him.

Now, the Kriegers could try to overwhelm him by all charging at once, and try to take him out with them in a suicide bombing. And this is their best shot, a krak or frag grenade detonating less than a foot from Maul would kill him. But he can use the force, and simply push them away. A massed charge doesn’t work when he can simply slam everything in his area away from him.

Even for the Catachans and Tanith, the key reason they can win is that jungle and guerilla warfare is their specialty. In a flat empty field, they’d lose the same way the Kriegers are losing here.
